If you have interest in what a disease is, why would you get offended by the pictures of it? Maybe you need to learn that you don't actually want to know what different diseases are and should stop looking for that type of information. Don't get mad at someone that gives you what you asked for.
Also, I personally don't see why it matters if the site content is tame or not. Why is Google deciding what content is appropriate for what age groups, or what disclaimers any site should give? If people go there and are offended, they have the freedom to not visit that site again. For example, from now on you can avoid Wikipedia when you want to research diseases. Find a site that does not include pictures and go there instead. Problem solved. You don't need Google filtering your life for you so that you never fall down and get a booboo.
Since when is Google the morality police? Maybe they've been talking to China too much.
What does family friendly have to do with anything? I don't want them judging sites based on subversive technical content, or anti-establishment political views, or anything.
In any case, it sounds to me like they are opening themselves up to be liable for the content of pages they advertise on. What if my delicate eyes see something they don't like, and Google didn't protect me from it? Think of the children! Time to sue!
In other words, they are spending too much money creating their titles. It's perfectly clear that money can be made for lower pricepoints. Look at the data from Steam's super sale early this year (late last year?) as well as iPhone. People are willing to buy $5 games and I don't think they expect them to look like $50 games.
I've hated all of (the few) radial menus I've used. First, I don't have a problem hitting an item in a drop-down list, except maybe when using a mouse on my leg because I'm in a car with an old laptop or I'm using a crappy mouse. These problems would extend to any use of a mouse, no matter the menu system. Second, visually parsing a radial menu is much more time consuming and difficult to remember. I also find it more difficult to hit the radial menu item I want. I can't help but think that if radial menus were actually that much better, we'd see more of them. With all the money MS and Apple spend on user interaction, I have to believe they'd be pushing out such menu options if they were actually better. Personally, I think the major problem with them is that they spread out the information I'm looking for and make it harder for me to parse. A drop-down list is a nice compact area dense with information.
By your wording, it seems you are most likely an American. Did you miss out on 7th grade American History? Do you not realize that the only reason America isn't a British territory is because the citizens of the colonies forcibly resisted their government? They were only able to do this because they were able to own weapons relatively equal to that in the army of the government that controlled them. That is the whole reason behind the second amendment. Any people who cannot use force as a last resort against their government are slaves to the government. Government is supposed to be *for* the people, but governments have a world history of looking out for themselves more than they look out for the governed, and violently suppressing the governed.
The right (and frankly the *duty*) of every American citizen to own a firearm comes from the very principles of America's foundation. To restrict that in any way is to lessen your civic rights, to abandon your civic duty to protect the liberties of yourself and others, and to be willfully ignorant of the sacrifices that others have made for you and your way of life. Honestly, would you ask another, face-to-face, to lay down their life to protect you and your property if you're not willing to pick up a gun yourself? I would hope nobody would be that selfish, but many of our current laws show that some people are happy to hand over their freedoms and responsibilities to others (the police and armed forces).
The world is a dangerous place and some people will always find ways of hurting others. Legislating away your methods of self defense is not the answer. The people that would hurt you and those you care about will have the weapons anyway. You make *yourself* weaker with such legislation, not the criminals. If you want to live in a safe world, take responsibility for your own life and be prepared to defend yourself in measure with the threat. Legislate the very harsh punishment of those that abuse weapons or tyrranize others through force, don't make it harder for you to defend yourself. Don't shirk your own personal responsibility and ask someone else to put themselves in harms way for you. Don't buy false peace of mind with your liberties.
The 500ma is per USB Master, yes? Most motherboards usually have 1 or 2 masters providing ~4 usb ports each. A common problem I've seen is people putting total device usage of more than 500ma on a single master, and then at least one of their components stops working. So, a 2-port device would either: 1) be using up to 200ma in a way that it doesn't need SW to request more than 100ma; 2) need more than 500ma and expect you to plug into 2 different master buses. #2 is usually impossible because the busses are usually split, once supplying service to the front of the computer and one servicing the back.
Or, maybe the kids were being total dicks. Maybe the kids were talked to. Maybe, despite being asked, repeatedly and kindly, to stop tearing branches off of the tree, they ignored the reasonable requests. Maybe they were willfully destroying public property without regard for anyone else's feelings on the matter. Maybe they are little shits that needed to be taught a lesson about respect and not being being completely self centered.
Or, maybe not. Maybe we need to realize that we don't have a full description of the story. Maybe people here should quit spouting off about this issue simply because they can't let go of their teenage angst and are projecting their own feelings of persecution onto this story.
Yes, it would. Corporates could deal with that; it's just that you can't blatantly put a Porche directly on the records. Kickbacks are more acceptable that giving yourself a bonus.
Because they have the money and an American presense. The guys doing the actual hosting of illegal-in-America files have less money and are harder to sue.
Make sure your outbound traffic is capped at 75% of your max (at the most; 60% may be better). When your outbound gets saturated, TCP/IP acknowledgements get delayed causing all sorts of issues. These include poor download performance (including web browsing and gaming issues), poor upload performance, and connection issues.
Personally, when I'm not using my computer I'll bump my outbound to about 80% of the max to get better seeds. But, when I want to browse the web or anything I'll set it at about 50%.

I think he was talking about the majority of SUV owners that don't actually need an SUV. I would say that 80% of them should actually be driving minivans. My Hyundai Elantra hatchback has fit pretty much everything I've needed to put in it. During multiple moves, the only things that fit in my friends' SUVs that wouldn't fit in my Elantra were 4'x8' sheets of lexan and my couch. The bed and dining table still necessetated a moving truck.
(Mini-)Vans are generally better at sitting lots of people comfortably, if that's what you need. They can also usually carry more cargo. SUVs are built on truck frames, and minivans on car frames for better mileage and smoother ride. The simple fact is that most people who buy SUVs are buying into the "bigger is better" mentality.
Regarding working less, one big thing that seems to be missing is retirement. Working just enough to pay for what you need now will most likely: 1) Leave you without health insurance (or working many many more part-time hours to pay for your own) and 2) Keep you working until your dieing day because you didn't work extra early in life and save up. To them I say, "Good luck with that!":)
Bullshit. You might not know it's bullshit, but it is.
Yes, any programmer should be able to pick up a reference manual or open Visual Studio and have a decent little program working in 3 days. However, do NOT confuse that with knowing a language. If you've read every page of the Stroustrop book or Lippman & Lajole Primer and have worked exclusively and deeply with C++ for at least 6 months, then you know C++. In a day and a half with no experience you simply cannot learn the pitfalls and nuances associated with C++.
As an example, I had never used Visual Basic but in 1 1/2 days I had a GUI that could control temperature sensors on an I2C bus (connected to the computer through a USB to I2C cable), and another app that controlled most functions in a complex programmable power supply. However, just because the libraries, IDE, help tools, and the web made it fairly easy for me get something done quickly does NOT mean that I know how to properly use VB.
Knowing how to program is different than knowing a language.
Yes, you are supposed to have a ready-made speech.
It goes: "Hey , it's r00t. Call me back at 123-456-7890. Thanks."
It's not complicated, and they can then call *you* back at *their* convenience.
Or do you think it's better to keep calling them when: A) They are out and you keep wasting your time. B) They are in the middle of something and you keep disturbing them. (Something like a nap, an important conversation with somebody else, etc.)
Phones were not invented simply to allow people to butt in to other people's lives. An answering machine removes the rudness of interrupting somebody's life and forcing them to pay attention to you.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this *was* "the next time around". Otherwise, how do 3 investors end up with a decent prototype product that they know nothing about? Somebody had to do the initial work...

Did you know that cable started out commercial free? That's what you paid a monthly fee for; that was the networks charging the consumer directly. Advertising was a way for companies to make money on free broadcasts. What happened to that?

There are risks that reasonable people are willing to make in order to live a life worth living. Recognizing that personal freedoms are worth some risk is essential to having any freedom at all.
I remember being given the test. I also remember the adult pointedly asking, "Which one has more water?". I was too young to think to say that they might have the same, but I remember not being happy with saying that one had more than the other. I don't know if the test is supposed to include the "they have the same amount" option, but I think it should.
I'll bet a big reason he bought was so that he could threaten and initiate shareholder lawsuits. Things like, "if you didn't have so much violence, you'd sell more product and make the shareholders more money"; or "you lost me money by putting that x-rated sequence on the disc, and now you gotta pay". He's complete slime.
