Why don't you listen to his answer instead of throwing your ego around? Users voting on which story goes live is a FUNDAMENTAL change in the system. Giving feedback on every rejection would be GREAT, but try it in practice.
Yes, it's a combination of cultural AND language issues. A friend lives over there at the moment with his girlfriend who is vegetarian. They simply cannot comprehend how she doesn't eat meat, as they don't - correct me if I'm wrong - actually have a specific word for meat in the same way that we do in other languages. She will tell them she doesn't eat meat, and they will ask her "but you eat chicken, yes?" or similar. In some cases, vegetables are classed in the same 'category' as meat. It's not racist at all to say what you said - there are some fundamental ways that they differ from other cultures and this is one of them.
Yes, agreed. I find Gates interviews an absolute joy to read (he is a bloody good speaker) but they say NOTHING useful. Ever. And this is no exception. He needs proper probing one day. One day...
I don't think the hype is at all uncalled for really. Nintendo aren't ones to let down hype. At the end of the day, with controllers like this, they're either brilliant or they seriously suck, and if they suck they won't get through testing/QA.
I honestly feel that this console will be a joy to play, and would preorder one NOW if I could... and developers WILL embrace it. Whether it'll sell is another matter altogether, as the market has not always chosen the most innovative or even *best* products for the win. I don't really embrace the whole gaming culture anymore, especially not of high profile games with fancy graphics (no time, no spare money to splash on that stuff), but I feel that this console could potentially bridge the gap between family and computer games, very very easily.
I agree with a lot of the views here on dual. Dual monitors isn't just about space, it's also about the phsycology of "putting this" on "that screen". It's a tidy way to work, although I'm currently battling with video in Combustion and wouldn't mind a 30 inch to work on...!
Sorry, not utter bull, but did go on the presumption that it took off from the US, as branson's plane is in New Mexico. There's always ways round it...
Someone posted the other day about vertical boundaries of countries, but that's not really the issue. To take coke up into space tourism flights, you have to take off and land from america in possession of that coke, which is obviously illegal. The same drugs searches etc would have to be done, especially if they have to have contingency for landing in other countries in an emergency.
Edge is the most beautiful tech magazine on this planet and a perfect example of absolutely top class journalism and publishing. I don't buy it nearly enough.
Yep. The other 'programmer' trend was also customised emails depending on tastes. I programmed a few different CMSes for some sites which allowed users to choose what they were into, and then got sent an email containing what they liked. They could choose to get this daily or weekly or monthly. That was good fun to code, but would never want to do it again.
As he/she said. 5 years ago it was the norm. I used to run a pretty popular site 5 years ago and was met by torrents of requests for an email newsletter, and obliged. It was a powerful marketing tool, as you could have a stale database of 10,000 users who may have forgotten about your site, but would get reminded weekly that you were still around.
As grandparent said, spam filtering caught it by it's tail and it died. I sort of liked it at the time.
I've got a computer with a 10 year old CD drive that's been running for ten years and used heavily and has no problems. I've then got another 7 year old drive that is absolutely fine, and a 5 year old one. Pah, 3 years my arse.
Isn't that because there was a heavy ban in most countries of the use of CFC gases after the 80s? There is still a huge problem with C02 emmissions etc, and although I agree with grandparent's sentiments, it could be worded with a little more care and a little less sensation.
"Hurricane Alice is currently the only recorded tropical cyclone in Atlantic history to span two calendar years. It formed in late December of 1954, and lasted until early January of 1955."
When I used to drink, whilst guinness was the most offensively heavy beer I could ever imagine drinking, it actually felt like a real, distinctive drink and I would enjoy it for that reason. Fosters is absolutely disgusting and here in the UK not many sane people *enjoy* it.
Still, now I can't stomach any alcohol whatsoever....
"Blizzard was not a minimal development cost. Estimates range from 20 million to 45 million. The amount of manpower and time needed to develop an MMO absolutely dwarfs that of a single player game."
Doesn't 5 Million x $15 = $75 Million? Therefore, the first signup MONTH paid for development for the entire game, 2-3 times over, plus they got quite a bit from sales of the game in the first place, plus most people will at least have played for 3 months. They are raking quite a bit in, I'm sure.
The old maps are great if you remember playing it on the SNES and battling against friends all those years ago, and the new maps are actually, as a whole, brilliant too. I have no issues with it at all.
However, the multiplayer, whilst incredibly fun, is sadly lacking. It NEEDs battle mode, it NEEDs easier, more foolproof ways of finding players (why can't you great a 'game room' and wait for people to join?) and... lots... and sadly it's never going to change.
"here is no official database in the UK that contains insurance details of all vehicles"
There is now, actually - although it only stops TOTALLY uninsured cars, and not simply cars which are being driven by someone who isn't insured to drive that car... also, when you go get tax you have to prove you're insured, too.

Yes, the Zeldas have VERY rarely been even remotely similar games, much in the same way that Mario progressed ten fold through all it's incarnations.
I take offence to these 'sequels suck' articles. I think a more relevant name is 'EA sequels suck'.
actually, yes point in case: the xbox DVD drive *shudders*
;-)
Thank god for XBMC and network shares

Are you for real? You are just PRECIOUS!
DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS
Grim Fandango came out in 1998, I bought a 50x CD drive for that. It's been used pretty intensely since and is still in tip top condition...
Actually, not significantly. Also... they're talking about the average consumer life being 3 years. They must be testing some pretty awfuk units.

It'd be a funny sight though, you must admit ;-)
