  1. Riddonkulus on Morse Code on Cell Phones? · · Score: 1

That is just plain crazy talk. Crazy talkers.

  2. Re:Eclipse? on Eclipse 3.1 Released · · Score: 2, Informative

It's a reasonable expectation to know what Eclipse is.

  3. I'd Rather Pay on DoubleClick Warns Against Ad-Blocking Browsers · · Score: 1

Who gives a damn about this? Apparently unlike a lot of other people, I am willing to pony up some moolah to pay to read my favorite sites. What we need is a clearinghouse to handle payments. Why doesn't the government keeps its dirty hands off of commerce and stick to initiatives that promote interstate commerce?

  4. They Should be Taken Out and Shot on Microsoft Censoring Blogs on MSN China · · Score: 2

Seriously, this should be viewed as a really really awful thing on the part of MS. Isolate those effing ChiComs until they're ready to live up to the same standards of freedom as the nations of the civilized world.

  5. Re:Apple getting out of hardware? on Apple Switching to Intel · · Score: 1

Yeah, I used to sneer at the Mac users, but I'm almost at a point where I was going to buy a Mini Mac. Forget it now!

  6. Riddle Me This on Write Down Your Passwords · · Score: 2, Insightful

We use physical keys to start our cars and to unlock our homes. Why don't we handle this stuff by using a similar strategy. Say a USB dongle that you need to start your computer? I've seen a few implementations of this theme, and I even believe MS threatened to do just this. Is this because the regular (l)users out there want their computer to work like their toaster does?

  7. They Used To... on Over Half a Million Bank Accounts Breached · · Score: 0

  8. Re:What's in demand? on Hardware or Software Major? · · Score: 0

Yeah, MOD PARENT UP...except doing what you love usually means sitting around watching pr0n in reality. This really is an awful question. Basically software will always trump hardware. Why hardwire something (which is what hardware IS) when it can be virutalized in software? There's only 1 reason to do something that stupid and it is called "cost". How do you suppose hardware (integrated circuits) is created? Using the same priciples of logic that separate good software from bad software. Learn software is the right answer to this. What you learn there transcends any hardware implementation of logic. Duh.

  9. what kind of article is this anyway? on Comments are More Important than Code · · Score: 0

Sounds pretty self-serving man. Why read your article when the classic "Code as Design" has already been written. Stupid noobs gotta do their homework.

  11. That Jack Reeves is Real Smart on What Makes a Good Design Document? · · Score: 1, Interesting

Read the Jack Reeves article from C++ Journal. His main message is that software IS design. Code IS design. Convincing your designers that this is the case will be difficult, but the best takeaway from this is that whatever your design is, keep it as close to the code as possible. If blocks of the design document do not naturally copy&paste as comments into your code, something is seriously wrong. Either the "design" is wrong, or your code is wrong. Keep the 2 close together and it should be easy to decide which needs tweaking.

  12. Why All This Laser Stuff From the Federalis? on Laser Warnings Planned for Out-of-Bounds Pilots · · Score: 0

I think this laser in the pilots' eyes stuff is pretty much bogus crap. Now this lame-o laser story. What's goin on here? Is the government about ready to drop some crazy military tech on us soon? Seems like the world politcal situation is getting more serious by the day. God belss Texas!

  13. Hogwash. Stop It! on Broadband Life and Internet Anxiety Disorder · · Score: 0

I'm tired of people elevating every little habit into a pathology. Ever met a hypochondriac? I've met a few, I think there's a human tendency toward it. Just like this tendency to call everything a disease. I say humbug. Slashdot's losing it when this is the crap they're approving. Sheesh.

  14. Thanks to Oddpost! on Yahoo Pledges Full Firefox Support · · Score: 0

I'm guessing they're revamping all Yahoo www-properties to support Firefox because of Yahoo's acquisition of Oddpost's email client. Currently Oddpost only works on IE 5+ running on Windows. It seems likely that Firefox would run Oddpost just fine, or with the most minimal of tweaks.

  18. Sensational on Online Trust Failing Overall · · Score: 1, Interesting

This is a bunch of hoohey. It is not in the sense that this is really how people feel, but those people are actually very ill informed. All they listen to is the news reports about identity theft, or they listen to their banks who are touting improved protection against identity theft. What people don't consider is that online transactions probably lower the risk for identity theft. If these banks actually offered an alternative to their competitors perhaps they could curtail their alarmist advertising.

As if your government will let China imprison a US citizen on political crimes. Fuck the Chinese.
