    Correct - they are much worse. The lightning produced by storms above the Sonoran Desert( read: Phoenix and Tucson, AZ )is generally much more impressive and powerful than that of the midwest.

    Monsoon season here produces some extremely impressive desert lightshows.

    Then again, it's normal for most Americans to forget that there actually are places in this country that don't touch ocean. Fortunately for us, so will the terrorists when they strike next :)

    It doesn't matter that Postgres does ACID-compliant transactions and is much faster and more scalable than Ingres, and actually supports SQL-92, and triggers, and stored procs, and many many other modern features.

    What *does* matter is that ooooooh, shiny, I can run this on that old VAX I have sitting in my garage! The nostalgia will help me mentally escape from the fact that I'm developing severe heart disease and my rapidly deteriorating neurons are no longer wanted in the tech industry at the ridiculously high salary I demand!

    Michael, Cliff, CmdrTaco, and Timothy - in that order of severity - are all raving leftists. The readers tend to be heavily leftist-indoctrinated college students or naive teenagers into whom reality has not yet knockied some sense.

    There are a few libertarians and even Republicans, but by and large this place is a Clinton Fan Club.

    I have to take issue with this claptrap. I pay $70/mo for a private PPO plan( much better than HMO )with Blue Cross. This is not bad at all. I am sick of people whining about the cost of health insurance and making ridiculous claims that you have to be "rick" to afford it. $70/mo isn't even enough to pay for a used Honda Civic.

    Try this:

    - Don't smoke.
    - Don't overeat to the point of weighing 300lbs.
    - Don't marry some bitch who expects you to impregnate her.

    If you are high-risk on account of YOUR OWN CHOICES, you deserve high rates.

    With their sweet computers (all of which run Linux) and their low prices, Sun can barely compete.

    IBM does NOT have low prices. Have you tried pricing out a POWER4-based server recently? More expensive than the USIV offerings. Have you tried pricing out an Intel-based server recently? WAY more expensive than the equivalent Dell or Rackable.

    IBM is good, but not by any means are they cheap.

    RTFA. This study relates to 60Hz magnetic fields.

    60Hz: Cell phones operate in the several GHz band. Wireless networks do too. Microwave ovens are at an even higher frequency( and besides, are always surrounded by an effective faraday cage ).

    Magnetic fields: radio waves( cell, wireless )and microwaves are electromagnetic radiation, which are decidedly different from magnatic fields.

    This study has ZERO bearing on the effects of high-frequency non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation, so next time read the article before posting your ill-informed luddite drivel.

    But yes, a good portion of the Indian Programmers have servants and chefs. You don't need to spew BS numbers to point out that being paid 22 times the per capita GDP is quite a cushy lifestyle.
