I think it has been discussed not long ago by one of the guys at id Software (IIRC). Bottom line is most publishers don't want to bother with two editions of the same game, as it causes expensive management overhead and confuses consumers.
It's not just girlfriends who don't give a flying fuck about CS, there's also anyone else who has a working brain, and therefore got sick and tired of CS years ago.
CS fanboys, mod me troll if you must, I just had to say it.
Actually in North America it's three languages, ie. English/French/Spanish. Sometimes they get away without Spanish, but they have to at least do French localizations of the packaging and instruction manual so they can sell in Canada.
WTF?? That does _not_ cripple the compiler. There is no clear advantage in increasing the size of int from 32 to 64. Especially since doing it would cause massive breakage (and 64-bit pointers do enough of that). If you need a 64 bit integer, you just freaking do like you always did and use long long. What so hard about that?
And "chicken-shit" as you may think it is, that's what GCC does too on x86-64 and ppc64. I for one am greatful they all agreed on that. Different sizes for int would spell disaster.
I agree, Apacer sucks. I once had one, and it suddenly stopped working after 3 months. Not that it ever worked well, I saw plenty of read and write errors during its short life-span.
Your analogy is thoughtful but flawed. Unlike compilers, automobiles aren't built PRIOR to the solidification of their standards of manufacturing (yeah, thank God for that).
I guess the answer would be: Americans. What, you were expecting music from Koji Kondo or Nobuo Uematsu?? Haha. (one wonders about the presence of Sonic the Hedgehog in this list though)
Quake 3 fast?? God no. IMHO everything after the shift to "real 3D" has been slow as molasses. Bring me back any DOOM (or Build) engine game and _then_ we'll talk about fast-paced deathmatches.
"I've heard that newer NVidia cards can boot straight to TV."
They sure can. I've done that more than once, in scenarios where I had no monitor at all save for a TV screen. In fact I'm actually surprised there are cards that can't do this.
Seriously, who gives a flying shit about PCI-X?

Why? 2000 and XP do work on FAT32, and I know of many people who do it on purpose so they can access their data from Windows 9x (or Linux in R/W).
Why? 15% is still a significant figure in terms of potential losses of sales.

Fail-safe? I don't think so. What if a malicious program is run, and turns all fans to minimum? Hey, what's that smell??
Software controlled fans is a very, very stupid idea, because software can not always be 100% relied on. I'd expected Apple to be smarter than that.
that they invented tabbed browsing. They'll probably give it a fancy buzzword name too, something like "XPTab" or whatnot.
You mean like
# emerge zelda
Cool!
I wish I hadn't ran out of mod points minutes ago. That is damn funny.

Using the word "confirmed" combined with a question mark is like saying nothing. You might just as well shut the fuck up.
"I wonder who came up with that selection."
I guess the answer would be: Americans. What, you were expecting music from Koji Kondo or Nobuo Uematsu?? Haha. (one wonders about the presence of Sonic the Hedgehog in this list though)
"Multiplayer is so much more fun."
Guess what? Some people have different preferences than you. They may even (gasp!) prefer single-player over multi.

This Canadian agrees.
Ah, good point ;)
A word processor is used to do actual work.
Flash on a Web site is used to... er... impress those who are computer-illiterate, annoy those who aren't, and run stupid games.
Remind me which one is wasting resources again?
the only thing we care about is: which one of those new systems will be capable of rendering Toy Story in real-time??
What? Open source a shitty old version of their drivers with 3D stripped out? nVidia already did this a few years ago.
You don't know what you are talking about. GLX is the OpenGL context and transport protocol for X11. DRI is a way to do hardware accelerated GLX.

It's not dead, it only smells funny.
