So instead of doing real backwards compat (which would be a bitch, especially with nVidia no longer on their side), it looks like Microsoft will simply _port_ older games to the new platform. I have to admit I think it's a pretty neat idea. I mean why not? With the included hard drive and broadband access, it could automatically download and store the appropriate executable. Non-machinecode ressources can be loaded normally.
Am I the only one who worries about OOo2 becoming even slower and more resource-wasting than the original?? Don't get me wrong, I love Java as a programming language, but let's be honest for a sec: Java on the desktop SUCKS. It's slow, it burns up memory like mad, etc. And people who say otherwise are clearly deranged.
The GameCube seems to be doing fine, using a proprietary format to prevent pirating. People have found a way to dump games, but since discs can't be publically replicated and the GC has no other mass-storage storage facility (unlike the XBox, which can read games for the HD using a hacked firmware), there is basically zero pirating.
"Perhaps if the USA opens the border to Canadian Beef , softwood lumber, and settles all the other open trade disputes Canada could CONSIDER, reconsidering such a bill. But I doubt it."
As a Canadian I second that. It's amazing how the US keeps destroying the Canadian economy, yet at the same time tries to get us into their stupid ideas such as the anti-missile project and the DMCA.
If you ask me VR has never started up because it's a health hazard. Putting two screens next to a person's eyes to falsify a sense of 3D has been proved to be harmful, potentially causing dizziness and other nasty effects, and IIRC in some rare (but not insignificant) cases it would even cause permanent sight problems. Remember all those warnings that came with the Virtual Boy? And that was just half-assed VR, imagine one using modern technology.
But that doesn't do any good since KHTML and WebCore are so different. Take Gmail for example. Google takes the time to make it work with Safari, so naturally people expect it to work under Konqueror, but it sure doesn't, in fact every time it does, it breaks again next time they do changes to Gmail.
I think it's safe to say now that Safari is no longer a KHTML browser.

Well it won't be televised so we'll never see it anyway.
"It's too soon for a new console. The games run fine on the old ones." ...but, but, we have yet to see Toy Story rendered in real-time!!
Maybe you have too many TVs. Maybe you and your family should try going out some more, or read a book or something.
If I use Konqueror 3.4, nintendo.com says I have an "old" browser, and tells me to use IE, Netscape 6.2, or Safari.
Go fuck yourself, Nintendo.
Oh, and Apple too.
Why do you Apple zealots always whine about this? OS X does not render Linux obsolete.

Thank you for confirming my point.
Hey we're all not pirates!
...says a guy who once told us in a previous comment that he stored "20,000+" games on a server in his home.
They're all a bunch of fucking pirates anyway, so who gives a shit about having linked to a site that is not affiliated to them?
How is the XBox any different?
"Mini Discs huge success? Might I ask where this success is?"
Everywhere but North America, for the last decade or so.

That doesn't change anything, since kids these days don't buy games anyway. Modchips are easy to buy and get installed.
Wait, I thought the sole purpose of Netcraft was to confirm us all that BSD is dead? Has /. betrayed my trust?
You're right. Okay, here's one I found after some googling.
"Someone should let IT know Canada already has Democracy installed."
One step at a time. They still think we live in igloos.

"are you seriously saying you would want to physically touch an porno dvd that's been "handled" by thousands of wankers before you???"
Considering brick-and-mortar rental stores have made money over renting pr0n for a great while now, a lot of people would answer "yes" here.
The whole starting point of this debacle is that they DO NOT provide patches, only snapshot dumps that are more trouble that what it's worth to merge.

Why do you even waste time leveling up? What is fun about going through an RPG at insane levels where there is no challenge anymore?
I'm sorry, but I never understood why people think leveling up is actually necessary.
I bet they'll screw it up, and it'll end up being on Mars instead of Earth, and they'll be fighting hellspawn instead of zombies.
Fucking Hollywood...
Although I seriously doubt there's going to be Linux support, so I guess I'll pass.
