"What makes MP3s any less lossless than CDA. Its another format and thats it. As a musician (and more to the point, an engineer and tech for real musicians), I don't think I've recorded anything in the last 2 years where the master wasn't at 24bit 96Khz...that means any CD ya listen to is VERY lossy."
No, MP3s are "lossy" because of the compression schemes that modify the samples to drop stuff so that it will compress more. On the other hand, CDDA is not only lossless, but it's also not compressed at all. But it's not lossy, despite the fact that the master recording was of higher sampling. Think about it: if your definition of "lossy" is "less good sample rate than reality" then that implies that ANY digital recording is lossy, yes, even your 24bit 96KHz master. A non lossy format would be sampled at infinite-bits and infinite-KHz. But that's pretty much impossible, so let's not call that lossy, now shall we?
That reminds me of old console RPGs where you had to open an action menu to select talk, search, pick up, open, etc. God that sucked. I think Square were the first ones to replace that goddamn action menu with a do-it-all button. Also, the game Earthbound had, strangely, both an action menu button and a do-it-all button (well, it wasn't the only strange thing in this game, heh).
Pretty much anything GTK+ 2.x or Qt 3.x is automatically cjk-compliant, and many applications come with asian languages as part of their i18n strings. As for the characters themselves, all you need are fonts. It doesn't matter how much there are, at worst you need one japanese, one korean, one traditional chinese and one simplified chinese.
And then again if you run Gentoo, and have you cjk USE flag enabled, the only thing left is installing one of more input methods.
I can run GNOME in fully Japanese flawlessly "out-of-the-box" on my Gentoo (all I need to install is an IM), so I fail to see what you are saying here by "changing everything".
So Microsoft FINALLY got a clue. They actually realized that an important fraction of their user base WANTS to use the XBox as something else than just for games and DVD movies. So instead of modding their XBox, people might actually buy that WinXP.
However, one wonders if this WinXP Media Center will allow for more than just MP3s, photos and video files. That's not much, considering what a properly modded XBox can do.
But if you try to assemble a machine that has similar features than a Powermac for example you usually end up paying nearly the same price.
Riiiiiiight...
But you can BUILD a much better x86 computer at that price. Which you can't do at all with a Mac. With about the equivalent of 800$US, I just built something that will most likely run DOOM 3 (AMD Athlon XP 2500+, GFX 5600, 512MB) quite well when it'll come out. That eMac is far from having sufficient hardware for that.
If its not that then it might be some sort of Hanfunda deal. I've wondered why Nintendo hasn't tried to introduce the world to the game they were founded on. It would have been pretty nifty to find an introduction and card game for the "No game has been inserted" software.
Actually in Japan Nintendo has never stopped their traditional card game business, even now they still make them. So there's not much to "introduce" people to (in Japan at least).
Does your new Linux player suck less than Linux RealOne? Goddamn, that's one horrible piece of software. First of all, it's in Motif (that prehistoric piece of shit toolkit) and second of all IT CAN'T SEEK WITHOUT SEGFAULTING. ALL THE TIME. I mean fuck, have you guys even tried using it?
I hope Nintendo will call their next console the 'N5'. I think it's a pretty kick-ass name, it's like a testament of Nintendo's heritage, plus it's short and sweet.
For the last time, the Dreamcast wasn't 128-bit. That's just bullshit marketing. Have you noticed how Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo no longer talk about bits? It's because THEY'RE ALL 32-BIT. The Nintendo64 was 64-bit because it used a Silicon Graphics CPU, and Silicon Graphics have always used 64-bit CPUs since like 10 years. But since the N64 there's been only 32-bit consoles. Of course, Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft stopped talking about bits now since it would feel like going backwards.
I don't know about you guys, but IMHO the nice thing about handheld gaming devices was the fact that they couldn't do 3D. It was the only place left where you could play new 2D games. But now with the arrival of those 3D GPUs it's slowly starting to lose its magic. Soon all handheld games will be shitty downgraded versions of PC/Console counterparts. Do we really want that??
And I think you need to do some research before saying "profound cost of owning an Apple". Make sure you know what you are talking about before you say that again.
Oh look, another Apple zealot denying the fact that Macs are over-expensive.
Sure, but with 800$ for a desktop or 1100$ for a laptop you can have a much, much better x86 computer than those lower-end Macs. Face it, that eMac is an old POS. With an x86 you can get something much more powerful at that price.
Brilliant. We should just say "No offense" after every sentence. No offense. That way nobody will ever be offended by anything we say! No offense. I'm a damn genius! No offense.
OS X decimal updates are like updates from Windows 95 to 98, or 2000 to XP. And last time I checked, those Windows updates were WAY more expensive than Apple's.
And BTW I'm no Apple fanboy, I don't even own one. I'm just stating facts here.
Again, apples and oranges. Decimal updates of OS X are more than just security updates. You can't compare them to a windows service pack. And yes, Apple does release free security updates too.
Call me a troll but I can't see how you can call that "music sharing". It's a commercial site with DRMed tryouts.
Oh, and "Sir Mix-A-Lot"? What the hell what a dumbass name.

FFXII and GT4? w00p, innovation ahead !!
stop trolling
Oh, the irony!

Only if the device itself can read and write long filenames.
If there's any company who can successfully push Linux to the desktop, it's IBM. Now, where's that OS/2 compatibility layer? :)

Trying to view the full-size image has killed my X server!
I just noticed this site - GameTunnel - does reviews on a pay basis, ie. you pay to get them to review your game.
Ouch.
Don't expect low scores from reviews the game's developper directly bought, no matter how shitty it is.
And we thought IGN and Gamespy were biased...
$ man 112259 zulux
No entry for zulux in section 112259 of the manual

Will you Mac users please stop calling PCs "Wintels"?! It sounds dumb. Especially on /. since a lot of people don't run Windows here.
