Recently moved from Queens to LI, and switched from Time Warner everything to Verizon everything.
I like the Verizon stuff for the most part, but the remote with for the TV box pisses me off. Time Warner has them beat hands down in that category, but that about it. The TV and Broadband are above all else consistent in terms of quality. That was probably my biggest peeve about Time Warner.
You cannot copy without permission of the rights holder.
Actually, it's not quite that black and white. I can make copies of some one else's works for several different reasons, backups and quotation for purposes of criticism or discussion being two that spring to mind. The actual reason for copying does factor in.
Sorry, you had quoted the part about the Lewinsky stuff, and I thought you were implying that all that legislation occurred while they were trying to lynch him.
I don't think it was a super good deal either, I just think it was better than if there was no 'scandal' and they were focusing on asinine games legislation or other worthless but potentially damaging stuff. I'd rather have them waste a little bit of money than come up with bills that blow through huge wads of it.
I didn't mean that it kept them busy his ENTIRE presidency, just when the stuff was going on. Out of the items you've listed, only the DMCA occurred in that time frame, which is scary enough I suppose.
BTW, I was a big Clinton fan at the time they gave him Line Item Veto, and even then I thought it was a bad idea.
Not that the other guy would have done all that much differently, but at least he'd have to fight with his enemies in the Congress to get anything done.
I think the best part of Clinton's presidency was that for most of it we had a Democrat for president with a Republican dominated Congress that hated him. The Lewinsky stuff kept all of them busy from doing real damage. I've always felt gridlock makes for good government, and I look forward to having it again in November.
I've read all of the 1st 6 Dune books, at least 4 times each (except I could only make it through GEOD twice). I read two of the prequels, and found them unsatisfying. On their own, they were mediocre to passable stories. Set in the Dune backdrop though, they fell flat. None of the characters had quite the same aura about them that FH had managed to convey. It also felt that either they had not read or just had not enjoyed the original series. Mostly it stank of a money grab, far more so than what CT is doing feels like.
I enjoy bitching once in a while though, so you've got me there.
Agree completely. I do mostly design work now, though primarily coded in the past. I have insisted (and my CTO agrees, so I don't exactly have to fight about it) that on at least some of the projects I design I take a break from the design work and do some coding along side the developers. Sometimes you pick up some things from developers that you hadn't known were possible. Sometimes your design is bad and it becomes painfully clear when you start trying to implement. All in all I think participating in the coding makes the quality of design work better.
We recently interviewed a candidate for one of our design positions, and in the interview he refused to answer a question about the level of detail of his UNIX knowledge (general, vague UNIXish questions, hadn't gotten to any kind of precision yet) on the grounds that it was irrelevant to the work he'd be doing. I don't know if it was a philosophical objection or if he was trying to cover for the fact that he didn't know anything, but his stance guaranteed he wouldn't get the job.
No need for it to be that old. Whenever I need to telnet/ssh into a newly set up Solaris box, first thing I end up doing is 'stty erase ^H' (and putting it in my profile).
If the CTO doesn't want things like this to happen, then there should be procedures in place to prevent it. If she was completely blindsided by this, that's no better than if she was involved with the project and personally gave the okay. It's really only excusable if she's been CTO a relatively short amount of time and hasn't had a chance to get her shop in order.
But he missed the boat on blowjobs and beer, which IMHO would have been necessary for perfection.
Even lower -- 1 in 200 if every star has only one planet. If we go with an average of 5, then it's just 1 in 1000.
the original Googleplex is intended to be preserved as part of the companies living history.
'So often you 'see the here come's an S u'sage of apo'strophe's, but heres one ca'se where it actually belong's and wa's not u'sed.
Grumble grumble grammar nazi blah blah.
Yeah, I was going for funny. The insightful and interesting mods scare me a little. It could be a couple of mods with a subtle sense of humor though.
Personally, I'm not entirely sold on this whole "insect stuck in the scanner" story. I smell coverup.

You make it sound like you think a free rectal exam is a bad thing.

Almost anyone can't post almost anything and make it available to just about everyone
I think it's the other way around.
I'm jealous of anyone where a month's rent is merely the cost of a PS3.

We do, however, have some ill-tempered sea-bass...
My sister was bitten by a sea-bass once...

IRS and FBI ?

Wildly inefficient. They might steal food from other people before they starve.
Presumably a reference to the poster he was replying to, 'AKAImBatman'
Hmm. Maybe with a "V" sound?
Vubble U?
Actually, by her definition, chess would only be something like 20% violent (what percentage of chess moves typically result in a capture?)
Even less. The time spent thinking about a move is considered gameplay time, so it would probably be less than 10%.
From what I understand, it's basically:
A = amount of time something violent is happening
B = total amount of time
Percentage = 100 * ( A / B )
Using the same formula, I figure an NFL football game is something like 15% violent. And lately, Pro Wrestling is probably in the same territory.
Is it just me or does anyone else find it harder to remember these damn phrases than it would be to just remember the planets and their order?
I've actually had to think about the order of the planets in order to remember one of those phrases a couple of times. Nice and backwards.
Maternal twins are hellspawn, forever damned.
And paternal twins are always really cute?
