Jobs' position is one where key technologies, such as playing video, should be done by the web browser and not held for randsom by 3rd party plugin developers who'se best interest is to put their app on every device out there. Posting articles like this only pushes the debate back afew steps.
Flash + silverlight = can play video = browser plugins = win for particular corporations with vested interests to win at any cost HTML5 (ie iOS, firefox 4) = can play video = html5 inside webbrowser = open standards = win for all

If the xbox does not have a direct x 11 implementation and developers are writing for what is compatible with windows and the xbox, then the problem is a microsoft problem, correct?
The title should read "Is Microsoft's Inability to get DirectX11 working on a Xbox holding back PC Gaming"?
I cant believe/. will publish any article that seems critical of a Climate change skeptic yet wont publish similar articles that are critical of Climate Change Alarmists.
Talk about selective publication and being unbiased.
Thanks/. for being on the side of cooking the science, subverting the law and fraud!
I'm not sure what to say to your comment. Lets see the score I have kept track of from the last 2 months:
Upgrading 3 slackware 12.0 boxes to 13.0 - worked perfectly (about an hour each) Upgrade from MacOS 10.5.8 to 10.6.x - worked perfectly (50 mins total time) Upgrade from Windoze Vista64 to Windoze7 - worked perfectly (2.2 hours) Upgrade 4 Ubuntu/Kbuntu installs (phyiscal PC's and VM's) from 9.04 to 9.10 - Every single one failed.
Not only did the *buntu installs fail, they're using experimental bleeding edge code and services. For example I cant use my nVidia settings program to maintain several *buntu computers to setup dual/tri-screens. No xorg.conf means no way to set this up and forget it.
Based off my personal experiences this is a problem of poor design and lack of testing.
What ever happened to the founding father's view that tyrany was ever vigilant and the tyrant would use any means to strip liberty away from its citizens?
They made mistakes with Vista. First mistake was they started developing Vista on post-XP beta code. It created a huge mess, so they dropped it, took the more modular Windows 2003 codebase, further analyzed it, modularized it, and in the span of 2 years, ported their old code over to end with what's Vista.
They always use 1 branch of code. They never use multiple branches of code. Having started writing on post-xp beta code is meaningless, they always use the latest generation of the nt line of code, and in this example it would be win2k3 code.
You talk like they have 2 seperate development trees of code, but they always have 1 tree with many branches.
When he makes big donations in Inda or whatever it is a nice way of buying a good impression and some positive hype when they want to staff up Microsoft India. It is also a nice way of imposing some control. Don't piss off the guy with the dough or he might take his favors elsewhere.
You are correct. Billg said that he would donate $1 million over 10 years to fight aids in india. He then made a $1billion dollar investment over 4 years to setup microsoft institutions there to fight linux.
He also likes to play tricks with his money. A $25 million donation to kids in need that really equated to being $25 million in printed MS WinME licences. Nothing like printing your own money and claiming to be giving away vast fortunes.
He likes giving away money, you see. Thats why hes the richest man in the world.
Too bad the past and current management of CSIRO are ethical people with a history of being outstanding innovaters and inventers of technology.
Interesting how the people suing them usually hide behind a fuzzy dollars scheme of inventing new technologies based on passing marketing dollars to each other and calling that research funds. Like when BillG promised through his foundation $80 million for aids research, but in real life it was $80 over 1000 years or something as silly as that...
> When was the last time you read about a Unix/Linux worm or virus
Hey, just because a new worm came out and straight away infected 30 computers that I know of, doesnt mean that Windows is less secure than Linux - it was the users fault for using emails. What were they thinking when they received an email with an attachment??
I'd start by not using windows xp. Microsoft has put in atleast 19 ways for it to dial home or broadcast its presence on a network. As well as being an un-audited, non-open code base there is no way to know how many backdoor holes and trojans are installed into the base operating system itself. All you have is trust that a multibillion dollar, monopolistic company that crushes its competitors in any way possible really wants to keep you secure. Why dont you use ROT13 in your security scheme as well? Its just as effective in the end.
I've had a friend who had gone to 2 well respected doctors with an illness. They then sent him to 2 liver experts. After perscribing him drugs that perspire in the cold. Quitting his job after suffering this illness for 6 months to be elegible for a govt subsidy on the drugs, a 3rd doctor sucessfully diagnosed his illness.
Have they fixed SATA support in 2.6.x so that i can use DMA on my drives yet? Thats the only reason i'm using 2.4 vs 2.6. 150megs per sec vs 10megs per sec. Makes a big difference...
Win2k still thinks that theoretical CPU's count as a processor. When will they fix that licencing problem? Will my Win2k professional box now see 4 CPU's and tell me to purchase another version of windows?
I agree.

Does this mean that Flash will **finally** run pause-free on the linux desktop?
Yep.
Tyrany is ever vigilant and never sleeps.
Liberty is to be fought for and cherrished.
I'm greatly amused by this.
Another example of Microsoft Genuine Advantage in action.
Remember, pirate software and get the latest support now, pay through the nose and get what you want much much later...

Oh yeah, that isnt taught in schools

You are so right.
Millionaires complaining that they are not billionaires. If they had a better product and economy then people would visit their movies.
Hmm... the counter argument is great.

He had diabetes.
Please dont be so close minded.
Will the game ever have advanced features such as multi monitor display? Multi-CPU/HT support?

muahaha, we slashdotted their main home page, now noone will be able to use their linux distribution :)
From what i understand about m$ licencing, anything that displays a m$ logo requires a licence.
