Hrm, you expect him to go : "No, we don't have spyware in our software! Huh, what ? Ohwait, you mean the software that is secretly installed on your 'puter and is sending out personal information ? Oh, we call that 'customer care software' "
Of course he would admit there is spyware ; since it's so obvious.
"Except the complaint is about the game NOT WORKING because one of their servers ISN'T WORKING"
The single player-part still is, not ?
I didn't hear the same uproar when the WON-network went down in the time of HL/CS.
I still stay with my opinion that the majority of the people complaining about Steam, are looking at their own 'bugs' ; Caused by them expecting to run the game/Steam flawlessly, with a sub-par system.
(postnote : Don't think that I'm some sort of Valve-fanboy that won't see -any- mistakes made by them : But I think the support they offered for their first game (HL) to be overextensive (as well to customers, as to modmakers) and this , in my opinion, makes up for alot of f*ckin
'around on their part)
"The mere fact that they're requiring Steam to play it says to me "They really don't give a rat's ass about our right to play it.""
How about they try to establish their revenue ?
"Valve doesn't have a good reputation with some people"
But has a kick-ass reputation with far more people... Just in case you forgot, they -did- support HL/CS for quite some time.
"Until that happens, your best bet is to just own up to the fact that some of their business practices are offensive and, believe it or not, the people who are offended by them aren't looney tunes."
No looney tunes, nope ; Selfish and shortsighted, yes ("My Steam doesn't cache right on my pentium III 500 Mhz, FUCK STEAM !!!!!!one!!")
I haven't played "Frag" myself, but I think it's strange that people are posting as AC's, even if they are just expressing their own opinion. Might be me though;)

"If Valve feels like letting me play, I can play. If Valve feels like taking the weekend off when their servers go down, I can't play."
The same was the case with HL/CS, and the WON-network ; Only then people just considered it 'downtime'that is -bound- to happen once and awhile, while now it's considered a 'breach of the rights of consumers'...
Very clever. I know most things I want, I don't want them to have more then one purpose. I don't want my console to act as a PVR. I don't want my cell-phone to:
* Play games
* Take pictures
* Allow me to browse online
But I -do- want my phone to play games (so I don't have to drag my GB with me) ; I -do- want my phone to take pictures (I can leave my camera at home), and no, I don't mind browsing some sites that I might have to checkup quickly for whatever info that is now within my reach from my mobile.
Yet companies are constantly putting stuff together, in an effort to convince consumers that they're innovative and to upgrade.
Well, -you- might not like it ; Does not mean you make up the -whole- targeted demographic.
While I agree on your points regarding the media's focus on non-asians ; Them -not- having that focus, would indirectly have led to less money being transferred.
People are selfish by nature , and when being confronted with '150.000 asians dying' it doesn't give (most) people the direct feeling to donate ("Aw, millions of asians are dying every year : Why should I care now?")
By giving it a 'familiar' face, people can relate more to it.
Nonetheless, I agree on your points ; And I also get embarassed seeing how the media handles this (the same is going on over here ; The last few days the focus in our media (the Netherlands) has been focused on 30 (thirty!) dutch people who did not survive the disaster)
Man, I'm chuckling my arse off over this : ARe you -really- that shallow you think 'beating games'(or bragging about it, for that matter) makes you a 'great gamedesigner' :
For one, as mentioned before, you seem to have your head stuck up your ass.
Secondly, with a nice premium Geocity account *cough* you don't really seem to be going for it.
Third up, I am still hesitating if you're simply a troll... or worse.. That you actually belive the fantasy world you are living in.
If the first : Nice trolling attempt ; If the second : Wake up and smell the f*cking coffee.
I agree with the points you are making ; But I think Shigeru Miyamoto would be a very bad example ; As he seemed to be innovative during his whole span he's been active within the industry.
While it is a very polished mod ; I was very disappointed by them winning the contest.
I think that they should have taken the unoriginal theme/gameplay a bit more into consideration ; then again, in the end they delivered the most polished (yet very unoriginal) mod as opposed to the others.
I was more thinking of the -innovative- mods , that have been copied by "the industry" : Good examples of the past being TFC and CS.
It has come to my attention that most of the non-native-english speaking crowd (which i also belong too) seems to be more aware of -not- making those 'then/than' mistakes , because we are taught the difference (at least I was) when first encountering those words in english class :
I always wondered if the difference between those two words is also explicitly being taught in the US.
'There are still some developers who were involved in games from the bedroom coding days. Some of them are still making games for peer group approval - that has to stop.'
Yes, let's make games for the broad-masses ; Just another WWII-themed FPS... or wait, let's make another race-game ripoff...
Have a look at the stuff made by the several mod-teams around for FPS's : -that- is were innovation (for FPS games) is situated at the moment : Not in the offices of EA (to take an example) where the next WWII-themed game is pumped out ; Closely on the line of consumer-safeness.
I'm hardly the guy screaming out "You f*cking cheater!" at everyone with a high score, but there are -alot- of cheaters around (maybe less so now VALVe has announced to detect cheats, but only ban a few weeks later, as not to 'warn' the cheater-community of detected cheats).
The best way to find out 'how to detect cheats' is to... Download a cheat for yourself, and give it a try (be careful, as you're risking a one-year-ban if it's a detected cheat) :
Allthough I really hate cheaters, having used a wallhack/aimhack myself (on a private server, with bots) , i -know- what to look for.
Still, I won't be screaming "Cheater!" to someone I suspect of using a hack ; I keep the honor to myself, and just leave the server.
The good ol' days, when retailers were selling shit without making a profit ;-)
Weren't the PSP's going to be priced about $249 ?
Makes the loss about 150 in that case ; Still quite a hefty ammount.
A complete Fembot ! :D
Of course he would admit there is spyware ; since it's so obvious.

Bullshit imho.
It's -so- good, he had to post as an AC *smirk*
So where is yours ?... troll...
* Play games
* Take pictures

Do I need to point out I KNOW that ?

I'll take the liverty to answer that question for him :
"Reality"

You don't happen to be the headhoncho of the PSP-department at Sony, uh ? ;)

No troll, just wondering.

"Southpark" does not seem to give any hits :/
