Yes, it is illegal in the US to distribute, view, ... child pornography (I my issues with this, but different thread..). But who made the ISPs law enforcement? I have an idea! Let's make the top-level DNS machines block it all. Ooo.. stop it at the Internet's backbone! That will, for sure, eliminate this horrible disease!

Blah.. Don't be so emotional. 99%+ of the world disagrees with child pornography including myself. Be rational, be proactive and quit pushing yuor morals onto someone else.

  3. How about this..? on Pennsylvania Child Porn Act Overturned · · Score: 1

How about the government get out of the business of telling me what is and what isn't obscene? Now, I am no fanboy of child pornography and find it utterly disgusting, but why should the government be in the business of censoring the world for me?

If you're a parent, buy a good proxy and filter the stuff for your kids on your own. Everyone has different views of what should and shuoldn't be censored. Move its implementation down to the lowest level, the consumer level.

To pre-empt (sp?) the certain objection that not everyone can set things like Dan's Guardian and other web filters, I say this: If you're a parent and don't want your children seeing topic X, you better fuckin' teach yuorself how to use these tools. You're a human, afterall.. the smartest being on the planet. I think you can handle it!

One last thing.. I don't understand why people care what others do in the privacy of their own home. IF I want to look at child pornography at home, I should be allowed. I am not infringing on anyone else's rights when I do so. If I were to look at child pornography in a public library, I could possibly be infringing on those rights. So don't bring your offensive behavior out into public and everyone is happy!

My school isn't. In fact, my CS professors tend to prefer UNIX/Linux over Microsoft for their personal machines. Yes, there are some Windows machines spread through this mix, but we actually have more non-MS amchines. Granted, though, the majority of CS students use Windows at home. :-\

I don't buy any CDs anymore. Not that I won't ever again, though. I simply refuse to pay $15 US for a CD that costs less than a dollar to press. I realize there are other people that need to get paid, but $15 is far too much for the shit that gets pushed on us. On the other hand, I would buy a CD retail if there were 7 or 8 songs on the album I liked, but that hasn't happened in a long while.

Spam is here to stay. You cannot stop it. I've been an avid user of email and the Internet for years now and ya' know how much spam I get in my mailbox? 4 or 5 messages per day. And these only blink in my inbox as Thunderbird (or Outlook with SpamBayes) quickly relegate my spam to my junk folder. Every email that ends up in my inbox is legitimate email that I want to receive. And even if it's not, one click and it's gone and my filter just got smarter.

Yes, this doesn't cut down on the congestion on the internet, but as a free and public network, you cannot hope to contain it.

Also, be sure to practice smart internet usage. Have throw-away email accounts, only supply your email when it is absolutely necessary to do so.. Don't be willy-nilly about it all and you'll be just fine!

We all know the popular Google-bomb of "french military victories." The French as well as, IMHO, most other European countries (not to be confused with individual citizens which can be as strong as any other man on the planet) are notorious for being gun shy, especially in today's modern age. Germans.. had their asses handed to them in both World Wars (not to say that the Nazi's couldn't have won - Hitler, you meddeling fool!).. French.. see above.. Spanish.. wasn't their last war a civil war, one which was won with German assistance? Italians go to war? No way!

That, my friends, is what it takes to make it these days. Be indispensible. I feel for ya', man, but when someone loses their job, it's their own fault. Even if some government action convinced your company to cut your position, it's still your fault. I'm sorry to be blunt, but it's the truth.

In other news, I still have a job in the computing nidustry and, at the moment, I'm pretty secure. But I acknowledge the fact that I could lose it. So I continue to make myself indispensible.
