Having lived in Macomb County for years, it might interest you to know about the history of this sheriff.

    See: http://www.detnews.com/2000/macomb/0005/17/

Now while you might argue that his father's actions have no relation to his, please consider that crooked deals have followed this family around for years. I'm not even going to get started on how black's from Detroit, Mt. Clemens and other subs are treated driving in their jurisdiction.

While I think the fee's demanded by this hoster are without question out of line, the methods used by the sheriff's office are a distinct abuse of power which reflects the county's past.

I am amazed at how much value is being put on some of these certifications today. Any book smart individual (which most geeks reading slashdot are) can sit down with a book for X amount of time and pass most of the Microsoft, Cisco or Comptia exams. Its just like anyone who goes to college for a bachelor degree will succeed so long as they attend class. I would have to say that the majority of individuals who have finished a bachelor degree of any sort have the ability to cram for any of these exams. They do not represent actual skill but the ability to regurgitate information.

Considering the large fees being charged for these assessments, it wouldn't be too hard to put a warm corpse in the room during the test to proctor a few live-action activities to verify ability. But then again, why have a bunch of people proctoring tests when you can port their jobs oversea's, hire a proctologist and determine the most comfortable way of bending people over again and again...

If a given security policy or IT procedure keeps them from doing their job, the policy must be disabled, until fixed, for the employee to do their job. I think people have this common misconception that doctors, lawyers and jumbo-jet pilots spend their lives in sainthood and keep us safe from all harm.

I have a friend who is working up the ranks of American Airlines towards flying the big jumbo jets. That "great" investement is a 4 year bachelor degree in aviation. This is nothing in comparison to many professions requiring masters and beyond. His long hours are approx 20 hours a week. Yes, he is away from home and his wife for 3 - 4 days at a time but thats the adventuresome lifestyle he always wanted. Besides, how many hours a week are truck drivers away from home? As for stress, imagine being control of a big vehicle where 99.999999% of the time the only reason another vehile is within a half-mile of you is when its shut off. It is going to take him another 5-10 years to have the seniority to fly the big boys. But then again, at every job you have to put in your dues for the most part.

Do pilots make alot. Oh yeah. Do airlines over-charge you to take a flight? Just a wee bit. I think the pilots deserve the amount they receive considering how much the airlines make on those flights. Young pilots however don't make $#i7.
