A truck driver frequently traveled through a small town where there was a courthouse at the side of the road. Of course, there were always lawyers walking along the road. The truck driver made it a practice to hit any pedestrian lawyers with his truck as he sped by.
One day, he spotted a priest walking along the road and stopped to give him a ride. A little further along, as he approached the town, he spotted a lawyer walking along the side of the road.
Automatically, he veered his truck towards the lawyer, but...then he remembered his passenger. He swerved back to the center, but he heard a "whump" and in the rear view mirror he spotted the lawyer rolling across the field.
He turned to the priest and said, "Father, I'm sure that I missed that lawyer!"
And the priest replied, "That's OK, my son, I got him with the door.
Any person who knowingly utilizes a computer on-line service, Internet service, or local bulletin board service to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice, or attempt to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice, a child or another person believed by the person to be a child, to commit any illegal act described in chapter 794, relating to sexual battery; chapter 800, relating to lewdness and indecent exposure; or chapter 827, relating to child abuse, commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.
This guy doesn't become guilty when he molests the child, the crime is that he attempts to seduce one whom he believes to be a minor. He can think about naked kids all he wants, but he becomes liable at the exact moment he takes an overt act in furtherance of his goal.
"electronic mail message" means an electronic message or computer file that is transmitted between two or more telecommunications devices; computers; computer networks, regardless of whether the network is a local, regional, or global network; or electronic devices capable of receiving electronic messages, regardless of whether the message is converted to hard copy format after receipt, viewed upon transmission, or stored for later retrieval.
According to this definition, instant messages are clearly electronic mail in my mind. This might not jive with the typical geek nomenclature, but it is well within the realm of logic.
This issue has nothing to do with child molestation, and their decision to classify IM as email was not "fudged" to convict a single molester of an offense. Supreme Court decisions such as these create a binding precedence for all other courts in the state to follow. In FL, the law is now that IM=email, unless and until the legislature amends FL statutes to expressly preclude the Supreme Court ruling.
I had a similar experience with AT&T Wireless when I changed my phone number to a new area code. They tried to charge me like I had two different phones, and when I called to correct them they charged me a $300 fee for early closure of the first account. Then, I got really mad and cancelled the new-area-code account also (another $300 fee). It was a nightmare dealing with those customer service people.
The whole experience made me so mad I quit my programming job and enrolled in law school. After my first semester classes, I sued them in small claims court. Of course, they promptly agreed to remove all the charges and fees in exchange for dismissing the lawsuit.
I guess that means I am stubborn, $60k in tuition just to get out of a $600 phone bill.
The upper management team of my company has made a decision that the IT department will work with employee's home computers and laptops. Despite every possible explanation of liability and the loss of proprietary information, the decision was made in order to satisfy a 'need' that the employees have expressed.
Do you guys get to wear the slender black neckties, white short-sleeved button ups, and drive Volkswagen Beetles to work? Hmmm...
The money that Yahoo could pay to throttle Google's web traffic is miniscule compared to Cox making $85.00 a month per family in their service area.
ISP's make money while content companies have largely failed to live up to their Bubble-ish expectations.
Google only makes 7-8 billion in revenue, and the amount that could be diverted to potential bandwidth-throttling is not that much compared to the money ISP's generate from maintaining existing customers.
Other content sites aren't nearly as successful as Google, and would have even less leverage to engage in these anticompetitive practices.
That analogy is a bit of a stretch... With closed source or open source software, the user can be happy with either experience. For example, I'm glad to pay $49.95 and $15 a month for World of Warcraft. Based on my enjoyment of the game and the hourly cost of playing, that provides a good value to me. I'm personally very glad that the creators can make a living doing something they are so good at.
By the same token, there is nothing wrong with Christianity simply because there are preachers who go around talking about Jesus. I've met several individuals in the ministry who represented Jesus very well with their lives and with their words. I'm a better person for having known them. Simply because they are involved in the ministry doesn't make them salesmen...
Does anyone have any experience with running Yellow Dog linux on a powerbook? I'm going to try it out in the next month or so, but I'd be interested to hear what people have to say about it.
I wonder how that compares to running various distros on a PC laptop...
A big problem with GNOME is that it lacks any form of a vision
Actually gnomes have the ability to see in the infrared spectrum, and get +2 to constitution / -2 to strength.

Reiser was arrested Oct. 10 after the Oakland Police Department found small drops of blood in his house and on his Honda CRX.
I'm not sure I'd want to buy a company from someone driving a Honda CRX...
Here is a pic of the Puffer Sphere running Windows
Hey the racing game is pretty fun for $4. I haven't tried the other two though.
The worst part of it was my wife making fun of me for being excited about a happy meal toy
The statute states:
Any person who knowingly utilizes a computer on-line service, Internet service, or local bulletin board service to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice, or attempt to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice, a child or another person believed by the person to be a child, to commit any illegal act described in chapter 794, relating to sexual battery; chapter 800, relating to lewdness and indecent exposure; or chapter 827, relating to child abuse, commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

Actually, Florida statutes state:
"electronic mail message" means an electronic message or computer file that is transmitted between two or more telecommunications devices; computers; computer networks, regardless of whether the network is a local, regional, or global network; or electronic devices capable of receiving electronic messages, regardless of whether the message is converted to hard copy format after receipt, viewed upon transmission, or stored for later retrieval.

That's because the robbers make roughly 60% less money for each unit of felonious prison sentence.
No way would I go to jail for 10-25 years just to make $250. But, for $600 it starts to look more attractive.
the coolest thing about this project is the fact that such an extraordinary amount of precious time was squandered on a fruitless(!) pursuit
Does that mean they used the pumpkin computer to play WoW?
Yeah, I was really glad when Microsoft's hit man got busted and all those shootings came to an end.
My current top five would have to be Super Mario World, Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft, God of War, and Civilization IV.
WoW is more like my full-time job, and I play other games to relax after my 8-hour pvp shift.

also known as the DPRK website. You have to see it to believe it
you can be certain your players will either be fighting, summoning, or visiting creatures from this horrific lower plane
I didn't realize they had MBA's in D&D... so much for escapism.
Starcraft!

Make a webpage something like this
I use this site all the time to look up little arcane tidbits of info, and it's really usable.
Thanks! One more question... does it run as well on an iBook, or is a powerbook really the way to go to run linux?
Does anyone have any experience with running Yellow Dog linux on a powerbook? I'm going to try it out in the next month or so, but I'd be interested to hear what people have to say about it.

It seems like I remember Anand buying himself a Porsche for his 16th or 18th birthday, using the payola from his hardware review site.
While his business acumen is to be commended, I can imagine it would be difficult to remain 100% objective under such circumstances.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be FUNNY, a TROLL or someone just being STUPID.

Good code doesn't require comments - the variable names should tell you everything you need to know about the program.
Now I'm getting diseases from my internet girlfriend too!
(just kidding if you're reading this honey)
