You know, after eating at McDonalds, I think I would want to go listen to the song Constipation Blues, by Screamin' Jay Hawkins... Too bad it's not yet offered on the iTunes Music Store.:^)
Does anyone else find it strange that Apple and McDonalds sell Big Macs (albeit in different form factors), and have announced a deal together?
Wow, a +3 offtopic post -- those are rare. Maybe we can all get it to a +5 offtopic... Here is how I think it can be done:
- Do a couple more +1 mods to it, doesn't matter which type - Then have someone mod it as "offtopic" to flag it as offtopic - Finally, have someone mod it as an underrated, which does not carry a name change (such as "insightful", "interesting") with it. At this point it should be labeled as +5 offtopic.
Yeah, it's sad when toilet paper can be 1-ply and rougher than sandpaper. You'd think it would be hard for the paper manufacturers to accomplish this feat!
Great idea......as long as I know where the mute button is.
A simple solution would be to wear earplugs while shopping. If you wanted to go the more expensive route, listening to a portable music device while shopping would do the trick as well.
Slightly offtopic, but how's about a Gameboy classic emulator for the iPod? It would need an adapter for the dock port, but the screen resolution is about the same (160x128 for the iPod, vs. 160x144 for the original Gameboy). Then you could have it disable the music channel that the game uses, and replace it with your own music... Hmm! Even better would be the ability to store your games on the iPod, and be able to select them from the built-in menu. The only problem I immediately see is that the controls will be a little (or maybe a lot) different.
So, you just like the legal kind?:^) I'm personally sickened when I watch the commercials that come on during Jeopardy nowadays -- more than half of them are drug commercials.
That's one thing I don't miss about Tally (not that there's a lot I do miss).. Stupid traffic patterns and stupid drivers. I'd rather have the crazy drivers you get around the DC area..:)
Wow, that's saying something... I've been here since '99 (started as an undergrad, now working on my master's), and have noticed a slight improvement over previous years... I'm taking more and more backroads to get where I'm going though, so my perception of other drivers is probably improving because I don't see them as much anymore.:^) Certain roads are still to be avoided (Tennessee St. and Lake Bradford Rd. certainly come to mind!).
You know, out of the countless cities and towns I drove through on my 6,000 mile U.S. road trip this summer, San Francisco had about the best traffic light timings of any city I can remember. The wait at each light was fairly minimal, and (although not completely related) I really liked how the pedestrian crosswalks have timers to show much time they have left to cross.
It's taken city planners decades to install and tweak centrally controled lights so that traffic flows. Now assholes will come along and make EVERYONE wait when they disrupt a flow that's been synchronized to minimize group time spent.
Or, if you live in a city like Tallahassee, FL, the lights are so badly timed that you essentially spend nearly twice the time trying to travel somewhere... Not all city planners want to optimize for maximum traffic flow. Some want to minimize traffic speed, and it is very evident -- why else would 90% of lights be red when pulling up to them? I've been in many cities before, so I'm not basing this opinion on strictly observing Tallahassee's traffic light timings -- most other places handle traffic much more smoothly. In cities like Tallahassee, just about anything (including random light timings) would work better!
Hi finkployd... My recommendation is to look for induction loops in the ground when you come to a stop (assuming your town uses them)... These loops are generally about 60-80% of the width of the lane, and about 5-6 feet long (though this can vary significantly). Pull over one of the lines in the loop that is in the direction your bike is facing (so that your motorcycle is essentially on top of the line, from the from of your bike to the back)... That should definitely trip the sensor! All the lights I've been stuck at were lights where I didn't do this.:^)
Just out of curiosity, when did you live in Tallahassee? I'm there now, and I had never heard about the light-sensitive traffic lights before... I'm wondering if maybe the cops have possibly forgotten by now, and I can start doing it.:^) The traffic light timings are so messed up here...
What if you could click on a file and remove the program associated with it?
I can see the tech support calls now...
User: My Word document won't open! Tech support: How are you opening the file? User: I'm double-clicking on it and it says there is no program associated with that file. Tech support: Did you click "Add/remove program by file association" by chance? User: No. Well, yeah, but I didn't know what I was doing.
Ehh... Carmack isn't developing Doom3 on MacOS. He has been pretty vocal about his love for Visual Studio 6.
That's interesting, considering his love of NeXTStep, and how "NeXTy" OS X is... Perhaps one day he'll come back (he even alludes to it at the end of that.plan, even though it was six years ago).:^)
Anyway, check out Willow Design for your next case... The models you would probably find interesting are the SC-17, 29 and 31. They make very well thought-out products, custom-designed for Apple machines, with lots of padding where it counts. Their handles tend to be quadruple riveted, among other niceties. My only gripe is that their shoulder straps could use better connectors at each end. It looks like some of their models now incorporate a newer connector design though, which is probably a good thing.
BTW, I don't work for these guys, but I have used one of their cases for almost two years now and it is still practically as good as new.

"The only way to win is not to play." It is an interesting quote, because game theory supports the statement as well...
Keep in mind that the average age of Slashdot users nowadays is about 13...

(I never thought I'd participate in an inverted pissing contest on Slashdot!)
You know what they say about imitation...
Ne'ermind -- they're back.

Wow, what you described (except for the yellow light shortening bit) sounds just like Tallahassee... See my extended rant here. :^)

So combine it with a visible laser, with a similar alignment...

Odd -- the files for 0.7.1 appear to be missing from the download site. Are they afraid of being slashdotted? :^)

I'm glad I don't work tech support...
(Note to mods: I've been using Debian for many years... unstable though...)
Wow, someone with a lower User ID than me. :^)
