Well, I'm hoping that some of this "scatter shot" technique being used by the media companies in their so called war on piracy starts backfiring.
Not very likely as long as people like Hatch and Feinstein keep getting re-elected. And it doesn't look like this will be an election issue any time soon. I hope I'm wrong, but this kind of thing is a little easier to predict than the weather.
It is better to let every homocidal manic go (what all 10 serial killers in the last century?) than to wrongfully imprison and harass innocent citizens.
Let's not forget the simple profitmotive behind much of this. Check out the "strategic business plan" (caution, pdf). It spells it out pretty clearly.
Precisely my point. Don't expect any better from any of the so-called alternatives. Do any of them have any history of telling the government, or anybody flashing the DMCA card, to go to hell? It's up to us, the customer, to make protecting OUR interests more lucrative, and to make sure failure carries a high price. Nobody is going to do it for us. Try before you buy. Put up "offensive" material and see if it withstands the pressure.
ehem, what was the dominant opinion on Slashdot in the matter of a proposed legislation to force payed bloggers to register?
I would hope that everybody is against it. Those who want to regulate the net are doing it for persinal gain, not to make the net "safe for the whole family". They stake their claim and try to keep newcomers out. Old immigrants want to keep out the new immigrants. It's an age old trick that works every time. For speech to mean anything at all, it requires action. Leave the speakers alone. Go after the "actors".
Pretty much closes down the thread. The guy reporting the fakes is fake. I wonder if somebody out there is trying to see how many layers deep they can take it. The best fake fake fake fake fake blogs.
I'll be shopping for a new brand. Thing is, I've never been much a fan of ATI either.
I thought you said, new brand:-) Three guesses as what type of law has this market and the entire process under complete lockdown, and makes it prohibitively expensive for any kind of upstart, I mean startup. Hint: It's the same law used to keep "riff-raff" and subversives out of the publishing business.
In fact, while I was in the middle of downloading the drivers from the nvidia site, vista popped up a message stating it had finished doing just that and installed them and needed to reboot.
That sound s bit scary. Imagine if your heart monitor is running Vista. "Ooops, gotta reboot...Uuuuuhh...Beeeeeeeeep. "He's dead, Jim."
Piracy also built the American entertainment industry, got liquor prohibition repealed, might get other senseless prohibitions repealed, including that of spreading information. Get enough people to violate a law and that law ceases to exist. Too bad we never simply vote for freedom. We always have to "steal" it.
Jack Newman, PhD, Amyris Biotechnologies VP: "This was technology that was really great for the current application of making an anti-malarial drug and we said, great, pharmaceuticals, that's a wonderful model and then we realized, our market is in Africa and they make less than a dollar a day."
So they decided to aim for a more lucrative market as well -- bio-fuels -- a clean alternative to petroleum products.
Within months they had $20 million dollars in venture capital funding and a new CEO.
Well, well, well, isn't that nice...
So, whadup with that malaria thing?
Man...Damn chumps make less than a dollar a DAY! How we gonna make a livin' on that?
Oh yeah, right.
An now we need to clear cut a billion acres for our sugar plantation. Gonna get us some giant ants to run the place.

What would make you think that?
You still don't get it!
Hasn't everybody upgraded to Vista by now?

If I cut a my way through virgin jungle then those who follow have a path.
And copyright puts in the toll booth.
Licensing.

Law is in large part our attempt to codify morality and ethics.
But it is even in a larger part our attempt to generate revenue, and is much more successful at it.
DMCA is copyright on steroids...No wait. DMCA is copyright with syphilis...rabies?...dysentery. Haemorrhoids. Worms. Fleas. Crabs!
You're gonna need a pretty big napkin to write down that number
And how's their record on dealing with legal threats?

How can you say that?! They have beer AND an airline, and a football team...well, kinda.
...during that time I had *NO* 3D acceleration on my Gnome desktop.
Be thankful that it didn't cause Sudden Acceleration

I have to ask myself what sort of people would subject themselves to this sort of abuse.
two words...
Whoops! So sorry. Let's try that again.
ask no more
Or is that now on the back burner?

Cowabunga.
You know they changed their name, right?
Complete mis-diagnosis. I think Lomotil should be prescribed here. Works for me
...they may overlap in places, but that does not mean a thing. - emphasis mine
Maybe "collide" would reflect the present times a bit better.
