I believe you're being "used" by a troll(verified by the fact that he goes around calling you and anyone who disagrees with him a troll), who absolutely refuses to understand that spam has become such a problem due to the buyer. Anyone with any degree of sense understands this. Most propety crimes would almost go away if nobody buys from the thief. Ever wonder why the illegal drug trade is so profitable? He did the same to me, and I simply have to write him off now. He's a fool that thinks he gets his point across by simply cussing people out and calling them liars. The only social issue here has to deal with the buyer. Otherwise look to technology to protect yourself. I originally thought the guy was talking out of his butt, but now I think he's so full of it, it's spewing out of his mouth...eeewwww.
A true case of "buyer beware" if there ever was one. Always read your contract, write it off as BS (because that what will be when the company goes belly up, or changes ownership), and have a backup.
(dcam, check out my last reply to you on the IRC thing before it drops off of your info page. It's getting way off-topic and we should probably move it over to a journal.)
True, but the mere threat of force is sometimes a good means to keep the gov't in check.
Check out the fall of Suharto in Indonesia for example. Dictactor overturned by discontent.
A better example might be Gandhi's followers. The act of "non-cooperation" is so very effective and it allows you to maintain the moral high ground. The act of self defense can bring you down to their level in a hurry. The world could bring America to its knees if they just turned their backs. It would hurt significantly if they just quit buying cocaine.:-) Remember how effective the "silent treatment" was when we were kids?
The other thing that might give them pause is that they might have to kill members of their own family. (unless it was their loser alcoholic brother-in-law, or their "wicked Uncle Ernie".)
I'm convinced that she was "ousted" by the stock market in India (with the "help" of Wall St.) She was probably aware of the turmoil that would reseult from the market panic caused by the news of her victory and she put the general welfare of the counrty ahead of any personal desires. If only western politicians would do the same. Indeed a wise and thoughtful if unfortunate move. Once again, democracy is trumped by big business. When she declined to become PM, notice how quickly the market "recovered". Pretty neat trick, and quite sad at the same time. Any one else see it that way?
I still kind of think that without a suitable navy, China wouldn't get very far beyond its borders. Even with all the Americans fancy air power, they still need a navy to transport a significant part of it.

Gas prices are kept artificially low in the states so people don't get mad and start looking for alternatives. Why pay 4 or 5 dollars a gallon when electric (or similar) could possibly be cheaper? Or they might quit buying cars and start demanding and using mass transit. I don't know why the Europeans put up with it. Maybe they don't. I don't know the ratio of drivers to mass transit users. I'm sure it's much lower than in the states. Elevated mag lev tubes will fix everything. If run properly of course. It's up to us.
I can understand your take on the first amendment for example, but then I have to ask, if the framers recognized these limitations, why didn't they spell it out? The law needs to be very precise on these matters and not left open to interpretation. Libelous and scandalous speech were understood concepts at the time, yet the amendment simply states "...no law...". It says nothing about these other things, yet the gov't put restrictions on free speech almost immediately after it's formation to protect itself from libel. I guess not enough people saw the irony in that to do anything about it. The law shouldn't be written in metaphors (we have the bible for that), but then I guess that's why we need lawyers, to interpret the law. Maybe if the law was written precisely, we wouldn't need these lawyers (cherish the thought) It could then be understood by everybody.
I merely removed "intellectual" property from your statement (statement is still true--property IS about control), and kept the same conclusion.
At this point, real property and intellectual property are two different things. I still recognize the legitimacy of real property. (as in stay outta my house, or off my land if I'm working it) Intellectual property is like the square root of -1. It doesn't exist. It's irrational.(or illogical, can't remember) To draw the same conclusion in your example is a mistake. It's like saying (1+2)+3=6 and (2)+3=6. The 2 is still the same, but without the 1 (hold the matrix jokes, please:-)) you can't come to the same conclusion. (Heh, if I could remember any of my calc stuff, this would be real fun) And speaking of property, the gov't owns all property. Just try to hold on to it if you miss some tax payments. That may be a silly statement, but can anybody prove it to be false?
I lump the publishing and music and movie industries into one because the subject is the same. It's about IP. and IP is robbing the public. I used DAT as an example of how IP in general is doing this. The e-book restrictions might apply better to the book publishing industry. I can't remember if I posted this to you before, but IP promotes speculation, not innovation. The desire to make our lives better is what sparks innovation. Speculation is about the desire for money, which is what IP is about. By the way, I don't care for real property speculation either, and it shuold probably be outlawed. If you don't use the property over a certain period of time, you should have to give it up. I couldn't speculate how much time that should be:-)
...I don't think it would be all that hard to cob job some sort of solar (heat) powered ones, either.
I saw a picture of Buckminster Fuller (my hero) standing next to a solar powered fridge with what looked like a crystal ball (probably to act like a magnifying glass) on top surrounded by what looked like glass tubing coiled around it. I couldn't find any info on it, And I was wondering how the hell the damn thing worked. Until your post...Ammonia, duh. Ever seen it? I think the picture was from the 30's or 40's. Are yours 12 volt dc? Or regular 115 ac? I heard 12vdc uses much less juice. I also heard that if you put a little bitty fan inside, it runs much more efficiently due to the air moving around constantly keeping constant temps top to bottom. True?
You silly.:-) Now I'm working on color. Got any scripts for sale? Answer me this, Batman...if I'm posting "plain old text", why does it come out like code? Hey hey Waddaya say How many hits did you get today?
Almost missed your post entirely. Thanks for the reply. Iwasn't disappointed at all.
I believe that humans were created perfect...
I am under the impression it's just the opposite. That people are born "savage" or "animal" and have to learn to act human. That's one of the reasons I thought that was why people weren't baptised until they were adults, because in order to get to heaven you had to know and believe in God. Just my take on it. I cannot argue with the rest of your post. We seem to be in agreement for the most part. Besides, this is probably not the place to argue over details. Maybe God created us so that he had someone to "know" and believe in him. He may have been (and from the looks of things, still is) lonely. Not to disparage, but I need to let you know that I'm not a believer, but sometimes I make a feeble effort to understand the beliefs of others. With all the different religions out there, I'm not the one to decide which one is more valid than the other. Or if any of them are valid. It's one of the reasons I don't like the way outsiders have such disdain for the Muslims, and I usually get slammed over it. Especially now under the current circumstances.
Publishing companies can still serve a niche market. The thing that will stop people from not using an established (authorized) publisher is their attempts to cripple our tech (Re: DAT and minidisk and the "evil" bit). Oh, you can buy "professional" equipment to get around these problems, but only if you're willing to pay hundreds, possibly thousands dollars more for things that would be in regular "consumer" equipment were it not for the law bought and paid for by the industry. It inhibits professional self publishing. Try multi-track recording with a consumer DAT machine. Try recording to and from your minidisk to your computer. I just found out that copy "protection" doesn't allow that. These people have no right to dictate how I use my equipment. Evidently they don't believe in my property rights.
Let me put it another way for you:
All propertyu is about control. Who can posess...who can distribute...It robs the public at large to protect the profits of a select few.
That's not what I said and not what I meant. I can still accept that there is a difference between real and "intellectual"(more like imaginary) property. So your "analogy" is nonsense.
Hope you catch this. I wonder why we don't use them for regular fridges. Too inefficient for the volume maybe? The freon industry probably doesn't like it. The stuff seems so unnecessary. Also I saw this thing once in Pop Mech that shows a flat metal plate being blasted with air. Do it at the right angle, and you get cold air in one direction and hot in the other. Maybe vortex generators do the same thing.
Sounds like the Comision Federal de Electricidad is running the system up there also, but you're doing all the right things to keep the lights on. At least you won't trip over the furniture while you're chasin' the old lady around the house at night.:-)
...but I keep the computer on a UPS, etc. Maybe that helps, dunno, but I do it.
You bet your sweet bippy it helps! I just learned last year to never defrag your hard drive without a(n?) UPS. Luckily I ghosted the drive before that, so ten minutes later, I was up again. And all those fluctuations (we get a lot of that here also.) can mess up the power supply eventually. So you may want to think of your TV. And you know what can happen to the compressor on your fridge (if you're using a regular one). The only thing that probably doesn't need regulation are the incandescent bulbs.
I'm sorry. I thought we were talking about Windows...:-) Thanks for pointing it out though, because I do need to back up a Linux partition that I have at home.

First, the premise that security is no more than avoiding lawsuits for copyright infringement.
Whatever it takes to "...Tear down that wall.". You're trying to make "copyright infringement" look worse than mass murder, or even "regular" murder.
