    Chose his college based on the fact the campus had an OC12 and a 10bT connection in every dorm room. His first month there he transfered over a terrabyte. After that though he got his connection permanently taken away for abuse.

    Another side question - is it possible to fly Space Shuttle easily and safely on earth? Like flying to another state?

    IIRC the shuttles never really "fly" even in Earth's atmosphere... they only glide back to earth. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

    GNU/Linux is free because people from around the world work with the intention/knowledge the fruit of their labor will be free.

    Google is a for profit corporation who's main source of income is from their advertisers. Totally different

    Shouldn't I be free to use whatever third party software to check my email? Will we be seeing controls on browsers that can view gmail next?

    My feeling is that if it's a *FREE* service (meaning you don't pay Google anything to use Gmail) then no, you shouldn't be free to use whatever third party software you choose.

    Sorry but when you're not even a paying customer, I feel no love.

    You can't have the camera in your office at ALL? My corporation has a no-camera ban as well however it also comes with a caviat that if the camera is included in another device (Cell phone, PDA) you're fine as long as you don't use the camera. Are you working in a high-security installiation?

    Of course all it needs now is the obligatory built-in Wifi and you'll be set. EvDO provider support would be a major boon as well. I think Palm should also look at a design with the camera in the front (hello mobile video conferencing!!!!!).

    The more and more they isolate themselves with proprietary technologies the more they cut their own throats.

    Once their corporate clients realize a decision to go MS is a decision to STAY with MS for a LONG LONG time, that TCO will get a hard second (and third) review.

    I've done the exact same thing. I was getting 100,000 spams every few DAYS. Switched all my important websites and contacts over to Gmail, deleted my MX records. I'm probably loosing some legit emails, but with no MX they'll be bounced back to the sender, who should then be able to contact me through other means. It's worth not having to sift through literally THOUSANDS of spams.

    Let me get this straight.... because OSS publishes and fixes their bugs, rather than MS' security through obsecurity (don't publish security advisories), OSS gets docked more points??!

    First Adaptec, then Roxio, now Napster.

    Boy they're sure good at picking business models. Funny how an individual who changes professions every few years is viewed badly upon by creditors, yet companies who go through disposable business plans the same way are "innovative".

    On the good side though, I think this will be their last name change before Chapter 11(, Inc.). Seriously, what part of focus on the money-losing online digital music service, selling its profitable CD and DVD software division doesn't sound like the bubble all over again.

    Bah... whatev. Just as long as someone keeps supporting Toast, I won't yell too loud.

    I run a small home server off my cable modem for myself only - no big commercial operation. Been doing this for about 5 years or so... finally gave up last week after my spam flow increased from ~100/day up to ~100,000 (yes, one hundred thousand) per week in the past month or so.... Tried RBL's, Razor, SpamAssassin, DSPAM, Apple's Mail.app client.... stuff only helped so much. Constanting having to fine-tweak filters, re-train Bayes. It's too much of a hassle. Now I've given up. Set Postfix to forward all my mail to my Gmail account. Has helped quite a bit, plus when I do get a message that makes it into my Inbox, Gmail's UI makes it pretty easy to mark it as spam. I'll try this for a while.
