  14. Re:I can't see it. on Ender's Game Trailer Released · · Score: 2

Orson Scott Card is in the credits as Producer. Not as a Pretty Face Executive Producer, just Producer. Directly involved in the movie production.

In recent Ender's universe audiobooks, he talks about how he stuck to his guns for years to make certain that the movie would be made like it should be - with children, not teen-agers. He added new backstory that shows why it came to Ender yelling 'Now'.

He talks about how Ender's Game, on its own, would be impossible to make a movie from, as all the important interaction goes on inside of Ender's thoughts. By making it about Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow combined, it becomes an interaction between Ender and Bean.

And anyone who is surprised to see the final battle in the trailer is probably one of the two or three people who did not read the book. They can't put everything in. I don't see Achilles de Flandres in the cast list on IMDB. I think that's unfortunate as he's a very richly constructed character in the books.

We'll see which one of us is right, but I personally think this is starting to look like a really good Movie - rich with new back story, visual context and personal interaction.

As a tech user, I know that nearly nothing technical was invented by Apple. (Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything but I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt,)

They have improved some things a lot but their top activity is marketing. They have no doubts 'invented' some business models but their most active practice is to sell above average devices at premium prices and some car manufacturers have been doing that for decades,

True - Apple doesn't do technical innovation. They do user experience innovation though.

Ahhhh... excuse me. They put technology to use in new ways.

Added one Mac, add Pagemaker, Adobe fonts and a Laserprinter: Destroyed the job class of "Typesetters" and replaced typesetting machines.
Implemented the mouse as a standard user input device.
Added 24bit color to the computer screen.
Modularized computer components for quick replacement.
Add a Mac and a CD drive: Killed off the floppy drive.
Create a thing called an iPod and iTunes and initiated the decline of the CD music distribution industry.

    There are others.

That's pretty darned strong technical innovation, in my book.

Yep, we cut the cable in 2006. I miss a few of the shows, but most were just fluff, anyway. Considering that I ended up watching 'On Demand' most of the time, or one of the Discovery/NG/History channels, well, we've never felt disadvantaged. Well, ok. I do miss the Weather channel. I don't miss the commercials. I really like not missing the commercials. Hulu is good. I'd pay a pittance for it - for higher quality and no commercials, maybe a pittance and a half. But certainly no more than my Netflix subscription. I've gotten quite spoiled on streaming Netflix, and season collections of TV series. Maybe they are a few months late, but frequently there are extra features on the discs that streaming, cable and broadcast just don't provide.
