It's insightful because America is notorious for applying its own laws extraterritorially, ie inside other countries. The French are merely copying the principle.
Then maybe France should try becoming the world's superpower, before trying to act like one.
Hate to break it to you, but in the mid long term the sun turns red giant and melts the Earth. In the short term we can expect several cataclysmic extinction events, quite possibly of our own making. In the long term, the sun dies. And in the distant long term, all the stars die.

Peace in the Middle East can already be accomplished, by pressing the big red button.
Surely either giving the target a spin or taking advantage of its existing spin while melting a spot, followed by an "ice cream scoop" collector might be more efficient?
You realize that spin won't generate a centrally directed gravitational field, right? That your mining operation will look rather like a wet dog shaking itself off in space, with stuff flying everywhere, and your mining equipment will have to be digging "upwards" towards the core? And that focusing light on the same spot of a rotating target (else goodbye efficiency) is much more difficult?
94% of college professors think they're above average, and 92% of them think they're less biased than average. ~90% of drivers think they're above average. And I'll bet you most statisticians think they're above average too. Do you think this is all the teachers' fault?
Maybe you could post the specifics on a different site, of course only if you think the average person would be understanding of your situation (I'd recommend not trusting your own judgement on this, ask a friend). I know a few people who got doxxed over some joke got lots of sympathy over here. If the doxxers think of themselves as righteous, they'll have second thoughts if a large group of people think they're overzealous assholes. Of course, if the doxxers are trolls, they'll love any reaction they get.
Before, a piece of wood could be a car, and airplane, or a boat, with whatever colors or other specifics the child wanted. This is much harder to do when you have a plastic toy that looks like an extremely specific object. I'm not sure how the old ways would interact with their friends having the new plastic toys. However every once in a while kids will remind you of such things when they ignore the shiny expensive thing you got them and play with the box instead.
Then again, in the old days you couldn't get your kid robotic legos nor a 3D printer.
Oh, come on, it's easier for young people today to get into the guts of computing than ever before.
Not true. Before, it used to be necessary to get into the guts of computing, eg the aforementioned typing in BASIC code from a magazine. Now it is technically easier, but no longer necessary -- so it can only be done by those few who possess the rare trait of initiative. Most will just browse the web and play games, because they rolled a critical fail on their initiative check.
A friend of mine owns a large metal machine that powers itself by a series of small explosions. It can travel upwards of 100 MPH, and weighs over a ton. Similar machines have been responsible for well over a dozen of deaths already, yet he thinks nothing of riding it to work every day. The police have never questioned him about his giant metal death machine.
Not Islamophobia. I think this is more along the lines of making sure Americans are kept paranoid and afraid, so that plans to eliminate their rights can proceed on schedule.
Also, the school indicated they knew it wasn't a bomb, but thought he built it to look like a bomb. They thought he was going to call in a bomb scare later.
Nevertheless, particulates will give you cancer, NOx causes smog, both contribute to asthma, and plants grow better with more CO2 while animals don't notice the difference at these concentrations. Only trouble is CO2 keeps accumulating, leading to increased acidity and global warming, which will eventually kill people if not dealt with.
The difference is, you can suck CO2 out of the atmosphere wherever and it will negate the harm of emitting it, but particulates and NOx have to be dealt with at the source.
I have seen no corporation coming anywhere close to claiming to have the powers of a country.
Dutch East India Company "It was a powerful company, possessing quasi-governmental powers, including the ability to wage war, imprison and execute convicts,[5] negotiate treaties, strike its own coins, and establish colonies.[6]"
"By 1669, the VOC was the richest private company the world had ever seen, with over 150 merchant ships, 40 warships, 50,000 employees, a private army of 10,000 soldiers, and a dividend payment of 40% on the original investment.[28]"
Looks like it's the year of Linux on Microsoft's internal servers.
Maybe they'll be releasing a desktop version in a few years. I mean think about it: * Windows 7 -- finally something to upgrade to from XP, took them long enough * Windows 8 -- nope, sorry not a masochist * Windows 8.1 -- ug, it has an 8 in it * Windows 9 -- probably would have been a good version, too bad they skipped it * Windows 10 -- malware, complete with spyware features and trying to trick people into installing it. Pretty soon if you forget to uncheck the box when installing your next Java update, you'll end up with a new Windows 10 install. * Windows 11: Revenge of the Penguins -- now that sounds cool.

Earth is our one and only hope in the long-term.

I see what you dig there...
It saddens me. This takes away a child's ability to put words in Barbie's mouth.
Not if she knows how to edit her router's hosts file!
How do I know those statistics aren't pulled out of thin air?
If you're too lazy to look it up for yourself, click this link.

Evolution seems to think false self-confidence is a vitally important trait. Probably some sort of kludge against sitting on your ass doing nothing.

And blinking lights on a wireless router make people with a certain brand of stupidity sick.

That's all I got to say about their literature prize.
