Damn good thing you aren't a lawyer. Legally murder is the *deliberate* killing of another human being; manslaughter is the *accidental* killing of another human being. Of course, the fact that you're unable to distinguish between the two is driven home by your completely irrelevent strawman argument.
You do realize that -- and here's a wiki
article to back it up -- 2nd-degree murder is roughly synonymous with voluntary manslaughter and 3rd-degree murder is roughly synonymous with involuntary manslaughter? You're undermining your entire argument.
Your response to someone telling you that you got screwed in a business deal is "don't be a girlie-man economist"? I call it being stupid, but don't take it from me:
Honestly, if we can't take it from GOD_ALMIGHTY_(17678), who can we take it from?
As an aside, thx for joining slashdot; it's nice to know You're one of us. (.. just a slob like one of us, too.)
By running [F9/11], they would control all the ads that are displayed and they could come on with commentary about the movie.
There would also probably be some heavy editing involved "to fit time constraints and decency standards".

I don't mean this in a kinky way, but perhaps you could try tying yourself up somehow to prevent things from getting broken.
And if you were really geeky, you could rig up some kind of motion sensor over your spot on the bed that would turn the light on. I guess the sensitivity would have to be cranked down.
ARL:UT -- Applied Research Labs, the University of Texas at Austin. They did a lot of government work (at least when I worked there). Hence the fondness for metrics and LOA (Lots Of Acronyms).
No, silly, you're the one missing the point. He accuses women of acting disinterested in what he says, then she purposefully completely ignores what he says! Subtle, and funny. I bet she was trying to hit on him.
While I love working with computers and applications, I am constantly humbled by my lack of knowledge and barely average comprehension of math and computers.... Sometimes I feel like I am a fake because my knowledge of computers and software seems so shallow and any second someone is going to find me out and expose me for a fraud.
You shouldn't be that hard on yourself. I think you just end up specializing. I've been cranking out network code under C and Linux for long enough that I can barely grok Perl, Windows, html, or even how to work the fax machine and copier. (Yes, it's embarrassing.)
What's more important than the knowledge is the desire to learn and achieve, and it sounds like you have plenty of that.
... and hopefully I don't sound like your grandma by saying that.
The guys did not want to partner with us for programming projects (although MY code always worked, dammit)
Not that I was there, but if it was me, I might have been shy, or already had a "favorite" partner/friend and/or didn't want to get ribbed for being "too" friendly, or figured there were an even number of gals and -- especially if you were friends -- why *wouldn't* you want to partner up w/each other?
None of those reasons make any sense, but that's just high school and some of us had no clue. Sorry.
She was complaining about our eyes glazing over, not our eyes glaring down at her chest.
This is simply called "not paying attention to what the other person is saying". Both sexes are guilty of this. Fixing it is more of a matter of acquiring conversational skills than suppressing your hormones (unless some beauty queen is competing for your attention).
Ever heard of someone who's a "good listener"? They just know how to pay attention.
OTOH, if you notice somebody drifting off, and it's not important, it's wise to just change the topic. Either they're just not interested, or you screwed up the delivery.
But what makes bear hibernation unique is that its blood temperature only drops slightly, allowing it to wake up quickly.
I don't suppose that is just because most hibernating animals such as squirrels are small and prone to loss of body heat, whereas a bear is comparitively like one big blob of insulation?
When you say "Republicats" is that slang for Republicans or "Republicans + Democrats"? Hopefully the latter, because both parties sold us out w/PATRIOT.
I think it depends on the situation. Watching a granny-type get conned out of their money is one thing. I don't think in this scenario that I could have come up w/enough arguments to say "don't buy that" to a guy who wants to make an impulse purchase. The new kit *was* faster and the participants here obviously have completely different ideas about what "fast enough" means.
Also, the exchange was completely voluntary. And, there were buyer risks -- that used kit could've had a bullethole in it -- caveat emptor. And if the "victim" didn't have a needy relative, the old computer might have just sat in a closet for months. I also think people need to understand that spur-of-the-moment cash exchanges are usually one-sided.
Arguing the other side of the coin...
it's only right to help them out unless you work in the place
In your moral universe, how come that makes it okay? This is why everybody thinks salespeople are arseholes -- they should be informative, not shysters.
"Real Life" isn't as easy, glamorous, addictive, forgiving, or even as fun as other games I've played. It does offer better tactile feedback, bigger suprises, and better realism. The mod community is really big, too.
As far as the point goes, all I can offer is to not go gentle into that good night. We're all working w/incomplete information, and it would seem a shame to jump to conclusions.
I am not trying to be an ass, but anything written by people you don't know should be questioned
Well, let's follow that thought to its logical conclusion. It's not bad to question what people you "know" write, either. Haven't you ever called BS on them?
For that matter, it's not a bad thing to question what you "know" every once in a while as well.
We need to stand up and tell all the family members and friends we're supporting for free - we are, after all, unpaid Microsoft technical support, without whom the users might as well be using command-line Unix - that they can either stop using IE, stop calling us for support, or expect a $200.00 per hour charge, with a one hour minimum per call.
Riiiight... see, if you do that, your family might kick you out of the basement. Not that I would know or anything. Nosiree.
(What, did you think you were good for anything else?)

Being a slave driver doesn't require being an idiot.
Are ya sure the grandparent wasn't referring to their wife? I think you may already owe yours an apology :-)

Yes, I gotcha :)

I guarantee watching a few Jamie Lee Curtis movies will convince you otherwise. (sorry to drag her name and privacy into this little trollfest.)
We're posting on /. so we all get to wear "wacky and different" like a freakin' badge of courage. ... especially you.

Sarcasm? That's a serious offer! If they wanted more than $10 I might as well just go and buy a quality discount game like Redneck Rampage.
Thanks! I use Mandrake myself (for x86); it does have its gotchas. I might swing that way.
I don't suppose that is just because most hibernating animals such as squirrels are small and prone to loss of body heat, whereas a bear is comparitively like one big blob of insulation?
Mind mentioning on what you settled on? I've been considering getting an AMD64 setup.

This is the logic I used when I decided to sit on my ass and not vote in the last election. I can tell you it didn't work out...
You don't need a window manager (such as fluxbox) running in order to run a fullscreen X app. It makes a small but noticable (for me) difference.

Because there was a bug. END OF LINE.
"Where is the bug?"
In your program. END OF LINE.
"Where is the bug in my program?"
It's not a compiler or hardware bug. It's definitely your fault. END OF LINE.
"Where is the bug in my source code?"
Which bug? END OF LINE.
"The one I'm trying to fix."
Ok. END OF LINE.
"Well, where is it?"
Which bug are you trying to fix? END OF LINE.
"agh.. the bug causing (symptom)"
The bug is at .... I'm sorry, this program has encountered a bug and must quit.
