My big hangup with MMORPGs is and always has been the price. I simply refuse to play a game where I might end up paying 200$ for a year's enjoyment as opposed to a nice strategy game where I might pay 50$ for a year's enjoyment. If it weren't for that, I'd be so deep into FFXI that it would take mole-men to dig me out.
The SciFi channel is in a "Oh my God, you want us to SPEND MONEY on PRODUCTION!?" phase. They kinda forgot the spending money part of "You have to spend money to make money" proposition... Witness, Farscape, and only funding a measly 4 extra episodes after the biggest fan backlash in history against them, and every company that advertises with them.
That depends pretty strongly on the major you want.
If you're a computer person, it probably doesn't matter too much. Me, I'm one of the others (aerospace engineer), so picking Georgia Tech was a no brainer- second best undergrad program in the country.
Oh god, SPAD. The frelling bane of my life now that I'm doing semesterlong design courses. (AIAA: God hates you.)
Of course, since I'm trying mightily to focus on engines, I learned it as V-equivalent and not V_exit. (for those who dunno: V_eq=V_e if the pressure of the gas that's escaping your nozzle is at the same pressure as Whatever Surrounds Your Craft. Not actually possible in vacuum.)
I'd like both, but if I had to pick one, I'd have to go with Mars.
Looking at the long-term, the only useful thing on the moon is Helium-3, which will only be useful when commercial fusion reactors come to fruition, and that's been 'just round the corner' since my parents were born.
At least on Mars there is a whole bunch of science to do.
Fun old DOS game, it's over on The Underdogs. What's extremely fun is making both major candidates utter incompetents without a shred of charisma (compared to the guys I'd make, Al Gore was a suave sophisticate) and making myself a godlike 3rd party candidate. And still, well, losing.
Very true. If there was life in this 'ocean', then it's very likely fossils are in sedimentary rocks in that region. If there are no fossils? Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, but it'll be a really curious coincidence.
If these rocks are sedimentary, then, as Squyres said, that has to be our main target for a sample return mission. Because sedimentary rocks are going to have fossils.
That's why you have forecasters. A good one (I've got a little better success rate than most local weathermen, but The Weather Channel has the truly elite) only uses the 'models' as a tool to help him decide, based on experience and intuition, where the eye will land.
uhh... dude... I was listing them as prominent games that were losing in the polls. I mentioned them because I played (and still play) them, specifically.
Yeah. Honestly, there's only a few stories which actually stand out; "The Survivor" already mentioned, and "The Children's Hour" (closest, I think to actual Niven without being from the man himself).
But still, the Man-Kzin Wars series really put me onto Niven for the first time, for which I'm eternally grateful.
There's only so much utter shit in plot terms that even the ADD-inflicted Square Kiddies* can tolerate. FF6 had an outstanding story, FF7 a good one, and the later ones were bah.
*To be distinguished from the many intelligent, rational fans. I think everyone knows someone like whom I'm talking about.
Wow, you took the exact opposite away from that book that I did. What I got out of it was that humanity would always fight, never giving up, but that it was a losing battle to begin with; thus, the Blue kids' actions were entirely proper.

*cough*
This was, er, supposed to be a reply to one of the posts speculating that Scifi would bring the show back to get it to 100 eps.
Oh, just go ahead and mod me offtopic. So embarrassing to do this early in the morning...

Funny, I'm graduating from Ma Tech next year and I've never heard of TechSphere... are they some GTRI geeks or what?

I really, really want to see a nuclear-powered orbiter studying the Jovian system for years on end...
If I had mod points, you'd have just earned some. Anyone who praises Freespace II's voice acting is obviously a perceptive person.
"I don't mind being a pawn if the game makes sense!"

Obviously the Fithp has already left Saturn and is headed to Earth.
Time to start studying those old Orion plans...
Anyone want to take bets on how long it is before a drug death gets blamed on "Little Jimmy wanted to see who the Devil was in his homeroom"?

Oh. Not the REAL Exile, the only Exile I recognize; Escape from the Pit! bloody Slithzerikai...

I'll grant you that most of the Man-Kzin stuff is forgettable. However, insult "The Survivor" (Go Eater-Of-Grass!) and I'll get very shirty.
Unfortunately not- It's part of a national design competition that's still ongoing.
Oh, trust me, I know- Part of my research is working on a smaller NERVA-type nuke thermal rocket motor for use on a deep space probe.
The law of supply and demand is now kicking you in the groin- enjoy!

It was extremely disappointing to see FF7 beating FF6 so handily. Kids these days and their "3-D characters". Bah, I say.
