    There are many ISPs but only one google. Supposing anyone (which is quite clearly what the idea of "mainstream" is about) uses google as his virtual desktop they could concentrate -a lot- information. Surely there are a lot of corps who would love to get this bulk of information from one trustworthy source....

    Shouldn't the people who install the access points secure them and not the people who use them? You can't expect joe user to understand even what a MAC or SSID is.

    correct me if I'm wrong, but a leap second does not mean that through some magical means a second is added to the time-space-continuum, it just means that we correct our time measure to reflect reality.
    in that case there would be no disruption in any shedule, the sync could happen at a later time if a jump in the timing would confuse anyone...

    right, you can't extract energy from a vacuum state, however the way I got it is that in our universe there is a center (with galaxies and stuff) that is not completely vacuum and outside of that there is (still, perhaps) vacuum, and just like air is sucked into a room with a vacuum in it our universe is sucked apart - which generates energy, as you can tell by simply adding a wind wheel to any vacuum filled room entrance near you and open it up.

    I think most of us bought the houses and cars that they drive so it's their property. this also goes for dvds etc. if we want to protect them, then it's our responsibility.
    you don't want to buy a car that locks out all of your friends.

    what's the matter with people registring names of animals as trademarks? that looks awfully stupid and obnoxious to me. I might just aswell register 'math' and sue all schools putting it on their schedules. Or can I?

    so basicly you're saying that under 18 you can do what you want without beeing held responsible? you're obviously right by saying that what he did was not legal but I don't think it was immoral, you can't protect people that don't want to be protected. so imho the law is wrong, it was her own choice and she has no right to blame someone else for her choices.

    For instance, he complains about having a menu bar on every window, instead of one menu bar for all applications, the way Macs have. Personally, I hated the Mac method in this case. I'm accustomed to only being able to access visible windows' menues, so it's disconcerting when I find myself looking at, say, a text editor's menu when I'm trying to shut down the machine
    That you are accustomed to it doesn't mean it is a good way of doing things.

    a friend of mine used to work for a local wine seller. they systimaticly called all people in the region and asked them what kind of wine they liked etc. and if they would bother to try a bit of their wine. if they "signed up" a few weeks later some salesman of the company would visit them and let them try some wine and eventualy sell them some. This way it is not illegal, of course every one has the right to not take part in the survey. Of course I live in germany, else my post would be quite useless, wouldn't it?
