    Would you trust such a kid out of HS to write software that runs the autopilot on a 747, or the heart monitor in your hospital, or for that matter the firmware of your cell phone?

    Why, I'd trust someone who has received extensive training and his worked in the industry for at least a few years. Precisely the kind of person the submitter is not.

    I just haven't found another gig that pays as well.

    Have you considered becoming a drug dealer? This industry has a relatively quick turnover rate and will certainly need more workers in the near future. If that doesn't work out, you could always be a pimp.

    fsck is the filesystem checker under UNIX. So if you fsck your hard drive, you need to fsck your file system.

    So the 32-bit Xbox is in the same generation as the SNES? The number of bits has very little bearing on performance. Same goes for megahertz on the processor.

    Actually, I've been informed that they have a working prototype that runs off of a Phantom gaming console. They refused to turn the unit on to show it off, however. The actual product will, of course, run Duke Nukem Forever, as well.

    I'm guessing you're a troll, but the reason I look favorably upon Apple is that they contribute back to the open source community (KHTML) and give exposure to many open source projects (Mozilla).

    The headline at the time I posted was did not say "Public Source," it only said "Source," implying the source for the entire game. Also, judging by the number of people who misinterpreted the headline, there was a problem (with either the writer or the readers =)

    Except this is only the source for making mods. The source that most games release shortly after the game is in stores. The game cannot be ported and the engine cannot be used for other projects.

    That headline's misleading and this isn't really news...

    Except they didn't release the engine source. The headline is misleading. This is just the code for making mods (one cannot port the game or strip out the enginre, for example).

    What the hell are you talking about? Assuming you aren't referring to illegal MS application development, can you please explain this? How do you obtain the MS API, core libraries, and development environment without buying a license to use at least soem flavor of Windows, and probably VB, or another MS-compatible IDE as well?

    Well, MinGW is an option can be setup as a cross-compiler under Linux and I think the API headers are easy enough to get. This doesn't really cover what you mentioned, but I thought I'd point it out anyway. So your point there still stands, mostly.

    I'm not sure if you were looking for a more in depth explanation. I don't know much about plasma, but that answered it for me.
