May 6th was yesterday. I'm a big fan of Slashdot, and usually disagree with people that bad mouth editors and what not. I don't troll about speling or gramur.. but not knowing what day it is?
The funny thing is, that this has happened to me twice today already.. Heard a radio ad for a concert on May the 6th on my way home from a post midnight Taco Bell run.. Crazyness.

I've fixed several ps2s with such problems, and even got a free one that way. More likely than not yours is caused by the same thing that causes most of them.. Google for ps2 disc read error and you'll find plenty of sites providing instructions on how to repair it it. The problem is so common that Tech TV/G4 or whatever it is now even had a page about it. As long as you're patient, it's easy to fix, just going to take a bit of time.

A little late here, but I just metamoderated something from this topic..
I started using Gentoo because I heard it was a good way to learn a lot about linux.. Turns out, it was a great way. I learned a lot about using the command line, different tools, editing config files, and much more. I went from trying to figure out how to change the wallpaper in my Mandrake install to compiling custom kernels in very little time. Granted, there have been some challeneges along the way with things not compiling, but all in all, I've learned a great deal.
I hear they're moving away from some of the low level installs like I started out with however.. At least I learned while the learning was good :)

I had a long talk with a finance manager and long time employee of GM the other day..Basically he explained that while other companies have already made the move to build plants in China, Mexico, and other places where cars can be built cheaper GM is just now being forced to make that move. They waited as long as possible to do it, and maintained American jobs for several years longer than they had to. GM sold 9 million cars last year, of which, only 4 million were sold in the United States.. That means over half of the cars sold weren't sold to Americans.. It only makes sense to close down some plants here and open more in India/China where the market is growing, and if they get life behind there now, there won't be a GM in America or anywhere else.
