I was one of the unfortunate saps that had HBOOT 1.5 instead of 1.3 or 1.4. You could get S-OFF on everything but HBOOT 1.5. There had been talk on the XDA forums about trying to get HBOOT downgraded, but I figured it was just easier to ditch the phone than to wait with bated breath.
I would assume he means he would stick with dev devices. Which is what those of us who want an unlocked bootloader do now.
Yup. I've been buying HTC phones since they were doing Windows Mobile 6.x phones for T-Mobile (T-Mobile MDA/Wizard). I even took my HTC HD2 and learned to put Android on it. When I switched to Sprint, found that I couldn't do an S-OFF on my HTC Evo 3D, and had to jump through hoops just to change ROMs, I traded it in and "downgraded" to a Nexus S 4G. Best decision ever.
They might not listen, or they might -- who knows? <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/common/survey. aspx?scid=sw;en-gb;1348&showpage=1&WS=mscomukform1 ">Let Microsoft know about the mistake they're making by writing to them! (I found the link at the torrent site for AutoPatcher.)
There's one small problem I've run into at my job when we sell customers an XP Home license to get them off of Corp: you can't do a repair installation from Windows XP Pro to Home. That's a problem because most of the customers we deal with want to save money and don't want the Pro license, although the Pro license gives us the option to Repair, and therefore keep their files, settings, etc.
Anyone know of a possible way to get around this, other than having to reinstall Windows XP Home from scratch?
Most people here say that things should be more readily available and free to use as you like once you have bought but I have seldom seen a post that advocates piracy.
So you're saying that since I saw the movie at a movie theater this past Saturday I can go ahead and download a pirated copy, right? Did I buy a copy of the movie or the opportunity to view it at the theater? While the parent does come off a bit trollish, don't you think that a story like this, put on the front page of Slashdot, is wrong?
And yes, I hate the **AA just as much as the next Slashdotter, but seriously, why the hell is this story up on Slashdot, let alone the front page?
I can only talk about Fable, but man that was not the "Zelda/Final Fantasy Killer" Peter Molyneux said it'd be. It was linear, easy, and I did most everything in the game (except about two sidequests) in 13 hours. 100 hours of game time my ass.
As long as Molyneux is unwilling to actually finish a game, I couldn't give one tenth of one fuck if he never makes another one.
Amen. Lord knows most of us who spent the $300 or $400 probably haven't been too happy with our rather limited selection of games. Even the backwards-compatible game that would've kept me happy is technically no longer BC cause the last update screwed it up. I'm talking about Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory...
Right. I say let them do their little tax thingy. Fuck 'em. When customers start whining that they're not receiving emails they think they should be receiving and then leave, AOL will realize that they shot themselves in the foot.
AFAIK, their servers are running Windows 2000. I don't recall Win2k ever handling a huge load like that, especially when a bunch of people are hitting it after they get home from school/work/whatever...
I'm not sure how Microsoft AntiSpyware does everything since Ad-Aware and Spybot seem to work fine for me, but I bet that some of those "idiots" you're referring to are probably the same ones who see "Windows" listed as spyware in Ad-Aware.
What I'm trying to say is that some stuff out there masquerades as other things. Am I to leave that "Windows" spyware program just cause it says "Windows" on it? Fuck no. Now, the really intellegent person would check to see where this "spyware" resides. That's where you can say those people are dumb or not.
Remember kids, if something "well-known and (semi-)trusted" shows up in your list of spyware when you run a scan, please check the location of it. If it's in a location you know to be wrong, then remove it. Otherwise, have fun paying the price for hosing a program or two.
The final match-up is with a green-glowing character that just doesn't fight fair. While most of the matches are moderately challenging, the difficulty level with the final boss leaps off the scale.
You pussy! ^_^
But seriously, Alpha-152 is a bitch and a half, and the reason why I traded DOA4 back in. A game should be fun, not frustrating as all hell. And yes, I beat her with five characters and nearly lost a 360 controller each time.
Wow. I have a Satellite P25 Series laptop and have been VERY happy with it for almost 2 years now. No problems! None! And I put in a faster P4 (went from 2.4GHz to 3.2GHz), more RAM (now at 1GB @ 400MHz), and I changed out the B wireless NIC for an A/B/G wireless NIC. I love my Toshiba.
Now the Compaq that I used to have, on the other hand, sucked big time. Mailed it to Compaq three times and still had issues. I gave up on that piece of crap.
AOL has tried a couple of times to get its users switched off the Microsoft OS and Browser. They do have a lot of users, so given the right technology, perhaps AOL could convince people to switch to Linux and Netscape.
I could've sworn that a few years ago (read: within the last two years, I believe), AOL sued Microsoft to continue using Internet Explorer in their AOL software. Nevermind that they have the AOL Browser, which clearly uses IE in it.
So, where is this "fact" that AOL has tried to get its uses away from Microsoft's OS, let alone Microsoft's browser? I'm dying to know.
Oh, and "Well, AOL bought out Netscape!" doesn't count. Clearly they would've been using the Gecko engine in their software by now if that's the kind of excuse you want to use.
...you're on Windows and you have The GIMP 2.3.5 installed. The version of GTK for The Gimp is 2.8.7, while I believe this version of GAIM uses GTK version 2.6.10 rev a.
Normally this hasn't been a problem in the past, but something (IIRC) about how connections are made and stuff were changed from GTK version 2.6.x to 2.8.x. This basically breaks GAIM since you won't be able to connect.
GAIM looks so promising too! Too bad I can't log in to do anything... ^_^
While the parent was modded as funny, in all seriousness I'm getting sick and tired of people bashing the 360 for "constantly crashing". You guys make it sound like ALL 360s are doing that. Look, the PS2 has had defects, the PSP had issues with dead pixels, and I'm sure other systems have had their fair share of defects. However, it does not mean that all systems are defective; so please, grow the hell up and stop making it sound like all 360s have issues!
Too many people are blaming this on Microsoft when it's places like EB Games and Gamestop that are part of the problem. I asked one of my friends who works at the Gamestop where I reserved (and paid for) my Xbox 360 and he said he had well over 100 reservations and that they're expecting about 20 on launch day. I'm not even the first shipment. The same problem is happening with my of my old coworkers who works at another Gamestop.
Seems to me that places that do preorders without putting a cap on how many they should have some of the blame.
Could we at least give awards to games that have been released? King Kong? Come on, that's not shipping till the 22nd of this month.
I'm all for a rewards show, but I really would like for them to concentrate more on games that have been released already (like they did with Resident Evil 4).

I want to try the beta out. Has anyone been able to install Vista alongside XP (dual-boot)? What about with Linux?

Not to sound like a dick, but it's called a USB Keyboard. It plugs in and works fine! That's how I went through the setup process on the my Xbox 360.

I agree with the eBay idea. See for yourself
As of 5:03PM EST, there are 6654 Xbox 360 systems for sale on eBay!! WTF?!
From November 30... http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/11/30/054425 6&tid=109&tid=95

Scientific Progress Goes BOINC?
Please mod the parent up.

Looks like they were quick to fix it -- I just checked out the site now and it looks as though nothing ever happened.
