  1. That Pokey Man game! on Both Sides of Wii · · Score: 1

Does anyone think that the PokeMon name helped to generate buzz for the game in America? It seemed like for years "PokeMon" was unpronouncable for adults and yet it became the biggest thing ever. If the semi-gibberish PokeMon name was responsible somehow for generating interest for the game in the English-speaking world, perhaps Nintendo is wise to replicate the "What's that mean?" factor with the Wii.

Thanks justchris! You've somehow done the unthinkable on Slashdot and actually answered my question rather than:

    A) Making unrealistic suggestions because you're talking about something you don't actually have experience with

    B) Maintaining that there is actually internet battle mode and I obviously didn't read the review

    C) Poking fun at my personal life just because I don't have any adult friends with Nintendo DS's

    I appreciate your insight :)

  3. Wish there was internet battle mode on Review: Mario Kart DS · · Score: 2, Interesting

I've never had a group of friends to sit around with and play video games, especially not handholds. I was hoping that this time the wireless intenet play would allow me to enjoy battle mode with others. Is there any possibility of an update to functionality, or is the network play pretty much a done deal because the game is printed on a cartridge?

  4. Such a waste... on Vivendi Shuts Down Indie King's Quest Title · · Score: 1

The screenshots look great and I have a lot of respect for the people who contributed to the project but... When has a project like this reached completion? The Chrono Trigger remake looked even better and that one met the same fate. Five years of hard work and devotion? That time and creativity could have gone into an original product and then no one could tell them to cease and desist. Sigh...

Then again, many of the buildings at UCF have their own wifi, so why drive 20-something minutes to downtown and mess with parking if you can just sit around in a building with air-conditioning?

  7. Re:not economically feasible not a surprise on Orlando Cancels Free WiFi Project · · Score: 1, Informative

Orlando is a large city, that's true. But Lake Eola is just one tiny little speck smack dab in the middle of what's called downtown Orlando. This was hardly "free internet everywhere" that wasn't being taken advantage of. It was free, unadvertised internet in one very specific, kinda out of the way place.

  8. As someone living in Orlando... on Orlando Cancels Free WiFi Project · · Score: 1, Informative

I don't think they ever publicized that there was free internet available anywhere. But aside from that, I can't see how it would be convenient for anyone to tote their laptop out to Lake Eola, anyway. That's a very tiny part of downtown Orlando. This is nothing close to a city-wide public internet project. I don't see how this should have any ramifications for other cities who'd like to try it out. You've pretty much got to drive into downtown Orlando, and usually have to pay to park in a garage or on a lot somewhere, depending on what time of day it is. Most of the people down there who have laptops probably work down there in an office building and have internet at work.

  9. Re:What's new? on Students Use Internet2 To Create Game · · Score: 0

Hmm... Just having played the "game" I'd say the complexity isn't greater than any of the collaborative flash animations I've seen on Newgrounds over the years. And a lot of those made much more sense.

  10. Re:Recompiled? Bullcrap. on 360's Backwards Compatibility Weak? · · Score: 0

I live in Central Florida and I know someone who was working for ATI on the graphics for the X-Box 360. I grilled them a few months ago on various subjects. Now, they weren't privy to all of the information about Microsoft's plans for this and that, but it was their impression that if Microsoft wanted backwards compatibility they could do it in software. They didn't mention anything about recompilation or any of that jazz.

  11. Re:Non religious on PlayStations of the Cross · · Score: 0

Actually, I do kinda think Jesus was cool, but not in the Mountain Dew commercial or t-shirt slogan kind of way. I don't think Christ would be your bestest buddy and hang out with you and eat potato chips and watch TV. What I think was cool about Christ, aside from his super powers (bring dead back to life, control over devils, mind-reading) was how he made the religious "authorities" of the time look like fools each and every time they sought to discredit him. Basic scenario: "You've healed this man on the Sabbath! No work is allowed on the Sabbath" Christ's reply - paraphrased - "Which of you wouldn't go looking for a missing sheep on the Sabbath?" or something similar. Zing! Snap! Jesus with the comeback.

  12. Re:Non religious on PlayStations of the Cross · · Score: 1, Insightful

Although I am Christian and have some faith, I avoid Christian rock music because I don't always feel like hearing about religion all the time, all the time. Sometimes you just want to watch a sitcom or play a board game and it doesn't have to be about Christ. I also feel that a video game or a song that isn't explicitly about Christ doesn't have to be labeled as "non-Christian." I think that it depends on the message of the particular song or game. I'd hazard a guess here and say that the majority of English-language games, music, movies, books, etc. were made by people who either are or were Christian at one time or another and I don't feel that something has to be "BY BAPTISTS 4 BAPTISTS!!!" or such to qualify.

That certainly does make you a distributor. The question is whether or not they could nail you under this law if you kept your UL ratio under 1:1. Let the new age of the H&R Super Leechers Begin!

  14. We all know what we shouldn't be doing on Bush Signs Law Targeting P2P Pirates · · Score: 0, Troll

Although I agree that 3 years for a single copy seems harsh, I can't say I'm angry that this law was enacted. It seems to have an effect only on people who are doing one very specific thing with p2p software that we all know they shouldn't be doing anyway. At least p2p software in general or bittorrent weren't made illegal. Only distributing pre-release movies. Answer? Wait until they're released.

  15. Oh boy, can't wait to be a kid again! on Virtua Fighter Cyber Generation Revealed · · Score: 1

Thank goodness Sega has done away with all the mean and nasty old fighting warriors that have turned me off from the Virtua Fighter franchise since its inception. I frankly cannot wait to play as an earnest boy with a cheerful disposition, and as him form rivalries and friendships with 11-year-olds without feeling like a sicko.
