... my mother would never be able to buy another galon of milk. She regularly uses coupons with sales to buy $50 worth of groceries for under $10. Once in a while the store winds up "owing" her money (though of course they never pay)! Yes I realize that the stores get money back for the coupons, but still.... If sales make a company unprofitable, then they just shouldn't have sales. Don't blame the customers.
On the other hand, those who buy, file for rebate and return... Something needs to be done about that. How about a database that the product company can check and update before sending out the rebate, and the store can check and update before accepting the return?

  6. Re:Donwload and Read on Scanlation: Distributed Manga · · Score: 0

While I belive in purchasing the works when they come out in the US. I do download and read manga.

I'm like that too. I started out just reading scanlations in college, but once I got a job I started buying Great Teacher Onizuka (awesome series,) even the first two volumes which I'd already read scanlated. By now I've spent several hundred dollars on various manga, though half or more of it has been through eBay. But I still read scanlations, mostly for series either not available in the States or the ones where their English releases are waaaaay behind the japanese ones (Berserk, Naruto).

So what I'm saying is, I believe scanlations serve to actually get you interested in manga, and if that happens, there's a very good chance you'll start buying the actual thing. So it actually helps companies like Viz and Tokyopop who publish official English translations.

I do admit to reading all of Love Hina with scanlations and not buying a single one of the printed volumes. But that's one of the exceptions.

I just decided to find out what kinds of treasures the Greater Glaabrezu in Under Sigil could drop. IIRC each kill was worth 100,000XP, and I left the rest of the party behind so TNO could have the pleasure of the killing by himself. After I got tired of that, I looked for interesting ways to beat the Nemesis. My two favorites were:

    1. Missile of Patience (thats the name, right?) which took 4 or 5 casts - not bad for a Level 1 spell!

    2. Beating the poor guy to death with TNO's own severred arm. As a mage :)

And this is the sort of thing that ended up giving me carpal tunnel syndrome :/
