The original Rogue is fine, but I draw the line once you get to dozens of monsters and items sharing the same letter/symbol and only distinguishable by the color. I don't want to use the 'look' command every time something appears on the screen. That's why a roguelike needs a decent tile set before I play it (and happily, most of the good ones have one or twenty.)
