I played the previous version a couple years back, mainly because it could run on my Pentium 3 w/ TNT2. IIRC it was basically a Quake 3 clone using a heavily upgraded Quake 2 engine. Yes, it was fun.
How do you not "trust the client"? Even if virtually all the code was on the server, with the client only providing the user input, how is the server to know whether it's the user or a bot pointing and clicking to get the headshot?
People have proven throughout history that anyone is killable- I'd say we already live in that world, and personally, I like it just fine! Even if humans managed to secure utopia for all, someone or something would come along and "correct" that...
Everyone is killable, as long as the killer is ready to sacrifice their life. This last part is now at risk.
I'm kind of hoping this is some billion dollar counter-intelligence initiative. All the "sensitive" information on this site will have just enough truth to be dangerously false.
But the ISPs aren't the customers, the end users who clicked on the Disney link are. So those end users should be the ones subscribing.
This is the reverse of the net neutrality issue that we've been talking about for years, but just as with "reverse racism" it's not much of a distinction.
I don't recall that episode. Were the transformed singers actually wearing "black-face" makeup, or did they turn black? If the latter, what's the problem?
It does however, limit what I use online poker for...practice. I can play 4-6 tables at one time online, so I can see many, many more hands per hour than live at a single table.
So, um, what exactly are you practicing for here? Do you play 4-6 tables at a time at casinos? Or perhaps you close your eyes and only open them for a few seconds to make a decision when the dealer calls your name?
If someone breaks into my house planning to rob me blind, but finds I've got several dead people stashed in my basement, should that be admissible? Should he be able to go to the police and say "hey, this guy's got corpses in his basement!" And if he does so, should that be admissible in a court case against me? Or should that all be thrown out because he shouldn't have been in my house in the first place?
I don't think that itself should be admissible as evidence. It should be enough to start a murder investigation with them as a prime suspect and any evidence found legally as a part of that investigation should be admissible.
I'd wager you would also get some people to kick in $5 extra a month for say 40 and older servers also for people that still remember how to spell OKAY.
I think you'd be hard pressed to find a 40 year old who still writes/types "Okay."
Remember the fuss about the "Kill all the Haitians" mission? GTA type games are usually "equal opportunity" offenders. Once you start targeting smaller segment of the innocent population (women, children, etc), you get into a huge mess. Not to say that a game where you could choose to rape everyone, regardless of gender or age, would be welcomed with open arms.
Oblivion's world larger? I don't think there's ever been a gaming world larger than Daggerfall's. It would take something like two weeks real time to walk from one end to the other without using fast travel.
That's a pretty extreme scenario though. Aside from graphics, how many have Oblivion/Fallout3 done that wouldn't have been possible with Daggerfall technology? Or Ultima Underworld?
Dated? Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix doesn't look that dated to me. Then again, I can see how the attempted realistic graphics would be dated though - those are always the first ones to start looking bad. Team Fortress 2 will keep looking good long after Counter-Strike: Source becomes painful to the eyes.
Ah yes, Sacred Gold. Got it on Steam for $10. Was having fun with it, until I reached the last difficulty level and found out to my chagrin that my character would have to gain another 20 levels to even use any of the damn items the monsters dropped! That killed all the fun for me.
It depends on the level of entertainment too. Take one of the Baldur's Gate or Civilization games, and think how much progress you made after 2 hours. If the game had ended at that point, would it have been worth $10?
Reminds me of the story where people replaced their refrigerator and put the old one near the curb with a sign "FREE working refrigerator!" It stood a couple days there. So they changed the sign to "Working refrigerator, $200, inquire within!" and it was gone next morning.

Are you fucking serious? God dammit, that ninja told me she was 18!

But a flying attack drone is not really something you need in civilian life, or?
They'll be used by your local cops in 3... 2... 1....

So then people will live in off-shore houses. Problem solved.

There's a difference between "naked" and "skinless". I would prefer not to see the latter....
Plus just because there haven't yet been "netizens" who get offended enough to actually commit murder, doesn't mean it won't happen.

Too much grinding for my taste.

Are you playing the mass murder simulators with one hand too?

That's what I think about Dark Matter / Energy.

They're also going to animate the epic Gopher Battle in LotR style.
