Needless to say, I'm not around to care about the universes that I am dead in. From my point of view, the bomb will never detonate because if it does than that cannot be my point of view any longer.
You can't pick which universe to care about because you only exist in one universe. When you die, that's it (unless your specific universe has an afterlife of course). You're correct that after death you won't be around to care about the universe you're dead in. But that's not because your point of view switches to the next universe. Your point of view ceases to exist exactly as it would if you had died in all universes (Mostly Harmless scenario).
Nah, the world can't end, haven't you ever heard of the quantum suicide thought experiment? Clearly, this delay is just the first of many, eventually leading to the cancelation of the project. It's simply the most statistically likely thing that could happen that would avert the disaster.
Why are you assuming we're in one of the lucky universes?
The bang wasn't an explosion in spacetime, it was an explosion of spacetime.
There are those theories about there being big bangs before our big bang. Wouldn't that mean there's at least at "time" of sorts that wasn't in fact started with the big bang?
The universe is thought to have formed about 13.7 billion years ago. So even if light started travelling toward us immediately after the Big Bang, the farthest it could ever get is 13.7 billion light-years in distance. There may be parts of the universe that are farther away (we can't know how big the whole universe is), but we can't see farther than light could travel over the entire age of the universe.
Not sure I completely buy that. Say something is 20 billion light years away from us right now (whatever "right now means). Wouldn't that mean that if the light started out immediately after the big bang, it would only need to travel 10 billion light years? And anyway, how does the whole "expansion at greater than the speed of light" deal with the relativity theory? Doesn't that pretty much state that the speed of light is always absolute to everything, never relative?
The Bush II years have seen tax cut after tax cut that were, in theory, supposed to result in increased growth and therefore reduced deficit. Instead, he has posted record deficits year after year. And still, the fiction that large tax cuts will somehow reduce the deficit persists.
You gotta admit, those record deficits might just have something to do with our military activities....
You must admit, it's pretty unlikely that your memory is confused enough to not tell the difference whether you intentionally murdered someone, or watched someone else do it. So in this case it's not whether or not the brain scan can tell how accurate the memory is, but whether or not the brain scan can tell if you remember yourself committing the murder, or merely witnessing it.
You're right of course. Instead of spending $5k on the newest top of the line laptop, you can spend a mere $1.2k on a pair of the newest top of the line graphics cards.

Or maybe they've just read Forever Peace. I find it curious though that the wikipedia entry completely fails to mention the Big Bang experiment that was stopped in just the nick of time.....

Don't hold your breath. The Combine will fight them off.

I don't know, what odds does InTrade give of civilization collapsing by 2042? And how does a pessimist collect when they win?

Phase 3: Communism.
And my way doesn't even need any blood spilled. Take that Marx!

ISO has been rendered usless as several countries have stated that are withdrawing from ISO and setting up their own standards body.
Will it have hookers and blackjack ?
Try ordering a tab.
Well they definitely don't fear having their civil liberties taken away.

Oh, come on, do we really need operator overloading here?
Enough with the prequels already! I personally just want to know what happened in the galaxy after Foundation and Earth.
what a waste to do that anonymous :)
Would you have preferred that "ecolfer" post as himself here?
"Asking CEOs what should be done about the economy is like asking criminals for suggestions for modernizing laws."
As in asking a Slashdot reader for suggestions for modernizing intellectual property laws, right?

People who view porn on a regular basis are no better than stray dogs.
And what's wrong with being a stray dog? Is it not having to roll over and beg when your master tells you to?

Of course it's still likely BS.

Or they just tell you you're wrong in the face of pure math and logic.
Does it support it for actual flying, or as a replacement mouse for moving a cursor around the screen?
Out of curiosity, where would the water be pumped to?
Hmm, could you put this in terms of a car analogy?
