  1. Re:Non-US Elections on Slashdot Goes Political: Announcing politics.slashdot.org · · Score: 1

Very good point. /. is not entirely US-centric. Perhaps the admins should take a look at the 25 countries most visitors come from, and then have the flag rotate between them. That, or try something global, like UN or Olympics ... but, that'd be hard for many people who disagree with those organizations ... Maybe the logo should be a bunch of little flags. Blue for the color-scheme seems fine with me--not because it's in my flag, but because it's the color of 75% of the earth, during the day, and for something global, it makes sense.

You don't need to sample _everyone_ to get valid data. That's the point of statistics ... I would guess that google is a little skewed, though. People not useing google are probably useing the default search in their browser, ie; IE. People visiting w3 are probably more net savvy than others, which would also skew the numbers ... I'd say a general interest site like ebay would give a close to accurate picture.

No no no! But even that would be skewed in favor of people that use the interweb cyberhighway thingee and computers in general. A true sampling would be of everybody, ever. Really!

  5. Why the absentee process at all? Send real stuff. on No Secret Ballot for Military Personnel? · · Score: 1

Given all of the problems of the absentee process, why not get rid of it altogether? Take the voting infrastructure sent to public voting places in rural US, and send similar stuff to every overseas base where there are lots of American military & their civilian cohorts (like spouses, families, etc)?

Sure, it'd take the time to fly all of the machines back over to the US, plug in, and send their tally (or however counting is done, bring it here first to prevent foreign observation/hacking), but so what? What's about a day to wait for absentee votes to come in? Let CNN, FNC, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc wait before it's sure.

While we're at it, why not resurrect the Saturn-V rockets in order to finish the ISS? The shuttle could carry to orbit fractions of what a Saturn-V could, therefore the ISS could be finished quickly, and--just maybe, get a better ISS out of it. Say, one that would keep a full crew of 7 or more, so that some real science could get done.
