I'm sure Rockstar cares very much about your "inability" to buy their games, and will cater to your every whim to fix the problem.

For fuck's sake, they've been taking a beating over the game for close to a year now. They're going to have to cave in on something eventually.

I mean, seriously, do you think this is anything BUT a publicity stunt, as mentioned earlier?

  12. Good idea... on Software Approvals For Consumer Markets? · · Score: 3, Funny

This should probably just be added to the beta testing that most programs go through. Rather than doing it inhouse, simply give it to a bunch of average Joe Computerusers and see what they do with it. A few of them are bound to do something stupid with it, and that's when you fix the bugs there. There's your consumer approval. If an average consumer can use it without breaking it, then it's fit for the market.

  13. This is a natural extension of Open Source on "Forking" Greatest Danger of Adopting Open Source? · · Score: 1

People are bound to have disagreements, and since they are allowed to make the changes as they see fit, they can simply start their own little "tine" (to keep with the analogy of a fork) of the project and hope people go along with it. This can help spark interest in the project, and possibly provide new advances in the technology that wouldn't have been possible without the "schism".

I don't see a problem with this. It's a natural extension of the "everyone can add what they want" mentality.

The problem is, though, that people aren't really willing to see ANY form of imagery that reminds them of what they saw.

As a reminder, remember when the DC (District of Columbia, not Dreamcast) sniper was running loose? Around the DC area (which I happen to live in) people were throwing a fit over the game Silent Scope. Even though you were sniping criminals, and you were a police officer (or bounty hunter, can't remember which), the fact of the matter was you were sniping people who half of the time were 100 or so yards away, which was exactly the situation that the sniper used to his advantage. People just didn't want to be reminded of it, and so threw a fit over it.

The same holds for 9/11, at the time. People simply did not want to be reminded of the trauma that they all experienced, especially the people that were there when it happened. It would have been a nightmare for Sega if they had released that game, and probably would have sunk the Dreamcast faster.

Teamwork in an online game in no way mirrors teamwork in the real world.

Teamwork in the real world involves people who are committed, more or less, to the project at hand.

Teamwork online involves people, who, when they don't enjoy what's being done, they simply leave. Instantly. Which is NOT a teamwork skill you can use in real life.
