I am risking my karma here, but whatever, please read before posting reply
You probably have a better perspective of reality if you consider the two following concept 1) You need to listen to people grumbling and complaining, even the so called "uneducated", they are still people and they are complaining. It is no good to just say "you complain for nothing, the problem does not exist", a solution that solves the problem MUST be put forward Eg: In Italy we have horde of illegal economic migrants (only a few are actually from war zones) and people are grumbling and complaining It is no good to say "welcome all", common people just see trough the bullshit of the "immigration mafia"
2) Consider that if you are in a group of "not very smart people" you may be better if you are alone and free to move. Europe now has no common language, no common culture, no common policy, only one productive and strong state (germany), all the rest is a mess. Starting from Greece, then Italy, then possibly Spain, France... and the top is Frau Merkel
So, before declaring that brexit will be a disaster for Britan, well, it depends. If British people get down to work, if they do what they used to do best (trade) they may actually be better off without the bunch of European states.
Yes, it is messed up, it should either: - Parents become legal owners of the account and do what they please - Nobody "owns" the account and therefore FB MUST delete all of it
What else can it be that is not a big brother FB looming over you ?
To hit something you have to be at the right place at the right time (within a kill radius) First level of errors is in just picking up the actual current position/speed of the incoming Then you have to do you calculation quick (few milliseconds) and tell your interceptor to "move there" (mechanics/aerodynamics)
If an incoming has no steering whatsoever, then it is kind of feasible.
But if the incoming has even very little steering ten the control loop time (including mechanics) is so short that it becomes quickly impossible to have it stable. It is standard control theory, nothing fancy.
Companies make it very difficult for the user "not to buy" an entrenched product. Example: Being forced with Win10 since you "have legacy applications" Being forced to accept a bunch of Google Play restrictions when you are buying your phone Being forced to accept a whole lot of conditions when buying insurances and contracts.
What happens is that a company sells a mostly good product and insert into it a "poison pill" that you have to swallow to actually use it.
You cannot deal with this simply saying "do not buy the product"
Your argument really sound like the anti waxers "I cannot get vaccinated since... I cannot"
Yes, the Windows zealot will reply to this post saying that it is true, he is really stuck.
At the end of the day it is just effort you have to put, you have a choice - Apparently easy choice now and windows spyware and viruses - Harder choice now but no spyware (stay away from NSA sponsored systemd) and viruses
If we move from gasoline powered cars to electric then for most part the grid will take up the load. This is basically since charging is likely to be at night and it takes time to also build a solar roof.
So, anybody has done a decent study of the added load and distribution of load over the day resulting from a shift to electric cars ?
I do not see trucks moving to electric, the fuel tank si tiny on a truck if compared to the sustained power that the engine is producing.
installing the kde version was not available as install option but needs # apt-get install task-kde-desktop
wicd integration works, but NetworkManager does not some issues on handling permissions smb4k does not work as normal user but needs to be run using kdesudo
I am really looking forward to use it on all my machines.
Nobody knows what is in the windows updates.... (beside maybe some Microsoft employee) I would think that a gov. body should consider security as a top priority ! (Is anybody concerned that one day all WIndoze machines just stop and the whole department is stuck ?)
Also, even assuming the TCO is the same Win-Linux (I do not believe this) but instead of shipping money to Redmond you keep them in Germany, something a government should think about, or not ?
There can be a simpler explanation, as usual, a Microsoft representative visited a key person and explained the advantages to switch back to Microsoft. (Any of you may just guess who will gain the most for the switch back)
Yeah, sure.... trying to impress ? Seriously, it is at least 20 years that no new concept has come out of ICT. Packet transmission is as old as X.25 and Ham packet radio Languages:-).... beside the latest buzzword bingo no new concept... nice idea "functional programming" but who wants it ? The web... twitter... ever had a BBS ? Now, the new great buzzword, ipad iphone programming, new concept ? naaa The difference between REST and POST, SOAP... are you kidding ? they are variations on client server programming Not to talk about DB... that is the same starting from the old times... VIrtualization ? (look at IBM zservers, they had it for ages !!) Something that may have changed a bit in the last 20 year is more encryption, I concede that...
The point is you do not live with concepts (ask to somebody teaching math) you need to SELL them and to do that you need to know DETAILS of ever new and changing stuff. Nice the first 10 years of your careers, then you think, wow, I spend quite some time learning and nobody pays me anything... wow. Anyway, keep up !!
I am a small consultant, finding work is more and more difficult. Big companies do not consider me since I am too small, small companies have not much cash left for ICT and when they spend they wish to have "guarantees" that I cannot give... Yes, someone made some money on ipad or android market, what is the probability that you are one of the lucky ones ? Add the fact that every year half of the knowledge you had is just become useless and... The constant threat to be offsourced to china or india and... The increasing litigation for the most obvious ideas... I am amazed that anybody take up a job in computing:-)
Requests are signed using agreed passwords between the ISP and the WEB server. (That means exchanging authentication tokens before the crisis) So, the request cannot be faked. (Not all ISP need to participate and also not all web server need to participate, just the biggest )
Only a specific client can be shut off. The web server can easily identify it by TCP source IP (no dialog can happen otherwise) No faking is possible for the botnet, it is up to web server policies to decide when to shut a client off at the source.
The key point is shutting the bot clients off at the source !
Two things are interesting in the article 1) Firewalls are an easy target since stateful inspection table can be easily overflowed 2) Ipv6 is not something that helps the issue (I suspect the huge addressing space does no help, so is more crypto provisioning)
The only solution I see is for web sites to have an agreement with providers in the world whereby they can request a specific IP to be blocked to route to a specific web-site (for a limited period, obviously) The magic should be done by means of automatic block request sent by the website to the offending IP source ISP..
and of course searching for openoffice using bing results in: (results are in italian since I am searching from Italy, funny, the first one translates into "are you sure of what you are searching, Discover the "right" office for you....) NONE of them points to the real openoffice:-)

To understand the matter it is important to divide the sample data into people that had been involved with italian justice and those who did not. - Whoever has been involved with italian Justice just hates it (I had an issue involved a notary that sent me a bill for something that happened 9.5 years ago and was related to my father supposedly not paying the notary for some work on my grandfather testament... the judge decide I had to pay part of the sum.... is this justice ?) - Whoever has been involved with Italian Justice knows that you can be smothered for not having done things, there are PLENTY of cases of people being declared not guilty after MANY years.
Unfortunately, justice reform is widely opposed by anybody that had not been involved with it....
The net result is that this law tries to solve the issue of justice horror stories by capping the amount of irrelevant leaks that can happen. It is not the best thing, but the real reform cannot be done because "politicians" do not understand the problem.
Quite the contrary, videogames industry is as productive as any other and should pay taxes, possibly like any other
(Yes, I am against subsidies)
Just one more thing, for any economy to "work" you have to have a circular chain of producer-consumer, that is, I can buy a car from china but then china should buy something from me, or there should be a chain of buy-sell that closes back to me. If this is missing, the logic consequence is budget imbalance and collapse in the long run. (if the imbalance persist). The above seems just plain logical to me..
Oh, if you are wondering what keeps the wheel spinning... easy, energy (solar-food), petrol, hydro, nuclear (solar-photovoltaic) etc...
And finally.... your standard of living is directly related to two things 1) How cheap is energy 2) How smart you are to use the above energy to make your life better
It would be useful to the whole slashdot if you could support your assertion with some examples or reference.
NOTE: As far as I understand the "injection attack" is able to completely change the behaviour of a SQL statement, something like transforming a select into a delete or alter, we are not talking here of some SQL errors that are something like
DELETE from ana_tbl WHERE ana_name LIKE (?)
The above statement can easily be abused if someone pass % as "name", but it is NOT injection attack, it is just plain stupidity from the developer.
I have a feeling that I got my message garbled....
The point I am trying to say is: If you try to "circumvent a law" (in this case the law would be being able for the Gov. to record you email activity or web browsing activity) then you are against the law and you face consequences. Hiding behind "I am encrypted" saves you nothing. To the eye of a judge you are "not cooperating with the law and... probably guilty"
You state that banning encryption is impossible, Gov. obviously ban encryption for "unlawful" use, it is then your duty to prove that you where using for lawful use.
I just have the feeling that people that advocates encryption as a solution to privacy and tracking are just attempting to wrestle with the Gov. over "I am stronger than you", you cannot catch me. This is a false and dangerous starting point.
Gov. can always catch you, either dead or alive, you may be a small fish and can wiggle out of the net (unless the infringement process is automatic) but your hope of "breaking the law" indefenetly is just plaing unreasonable, unless, of course you try to "disappear", but then, what kind of life is it ?
So, after this long chatting, the point is:
If you and I think that an orwell society is wrong (I think so) we should say it clearly and loudly and not think "oh well, it does not matter since there is encryption"
Encrypt... yeah sure, next step gov. declare encryption illegal and the penalty for using it is just 1000 dollars fine. Gov. can even make it automatic (no need for human intervention) to send you a fine. You do not pay... well, your house is sold to pay the fine... you complain loudly, just get locket up... easy..
What are you left with now ? You are naked in front of a HUGE power, remember Gov. has HUGE power, nowdays even more.
So, STOP advocating encryption, it does NOT solve anything !!! Aim at the issue, say it clearly !!
It is ORWELL to record/log everything and this is WRONG.
Oil and wind/photovoltaic/nuclear share something, they are energy producer.
Two issues at the table 1) It would be OK to pay for energy to a foreign state if the money comes back to buy something (goods or services).
It is NOT ok if the money comes back to buy companies, land or buildings since this just means selling OUR country (whatever it is) to buy energy. (selling you house is NOT the same as selling what you produce)
2) It takes time to "acquire" technology AND production plants, if you are in a race and you lose out to the top runners it will be very unlikely
that later on you catch up, you will be just left out of the race (there are now plenty of jobs for unskilled workers, it is that we still
have enough money to "avoid" them, but this will not last long)
I stand that there are advantages to global economy but as usual there are disadvantages, we better know the two sides of the coin before jumping to quick conclusions.
In other words I suggest that at least 50% of needed energy should be produced in the country where it is used and it should be produced by companies based and staffed by the people of the country.
Apple and Google reminds me of an old joke where the Husband cuts "his attributes" to "annoy" the wife... in this case Apple is the Husband, and Google is the wife, but beside the joke.
Apple must be desperate if this is considered, maybe they thought to be "invincible" and they got Nokia upset, now they have Google gnawing at the heel and this is another one. I cannot believe Microsoft sheer luck, Bing has any success by bribe, (vendors being paid to have Bing set), SW monopoly (IE8 having Bing as default search) and now even Apple that switches to Bing.
I do switch any Bing defaults to Google and install Chrome for free where I go, and just to annoy Microsoft I search for "google chrome" using Bing (you would be amazed at the variety of responses:-)
The way it is going is like when Apple "invented" personal computer and then IBM compatible ruled the world. It seems like Apple "invented" the iphone and then Google rules the world trough open platform Android.
What can Apple do ? Avoid making the already rich Microsoft richer, start opening up and avoid bossing other players around (maybe attempt to partner with Google ?)

The point being that all IP, knowledge, future plans is not decided by UK people or "europe" (whatever that is)
Selling ARM to Japanese is a "stupid decision" by UK gov. (They could have blocked due to some "national interest")
I would argue that both US and Europe are losing out to the whole BRICS block
I just wonder what would happen if the next tournament play with a board that is double the x,y size

Would Alpha Go maintain the lead ?
Maybe we adapt faster ?
