Yea. I get twenty bucks a pop for opening a case, blowing it out, wiping it down, installing adware/spybot, updating them, and running them. Easy money, easy as pie...
Ah, but it doesn't say private entities can own off-world real eastate. Some guy claimed all nine planets awhile back, sent letters to the UN, Russian Government, and US Government, then started selling it on ebay. I think he's trying to rent some lunar land to the US for that moonbase Bush is after.
I could of -sworn- there was a mention of it having an ssh client last time it was posted on slashdot. But no mention of ssh on the hiptop page? What happened? I wanted to buy one so I could ssh into my network from anywhere.;-;
You know, if Linus Torvalds can do it (He served in the Finnish army too, remember!) then any computer addict can. Suck it up and get a technical position, solider!
Why is it this gets posted on slashdot? This sounds a hell of a lot more like his opinion to me. And look, I'm not getting posted on slashdot for saying Apache is cool.
And this is probably valid because microsoft is building a patent portfolio that's about the same size as spam will promise to increase your man-o-meter to. I fear they *will* go for Samba. They're funding SCO. What else is there to show that the story's prediction came true?
Wrong. If you're using a shared hosting account for your site, you/can/ be forced to upgrade to php5. The system admins don't go around and ask every user 'do you want php5?', now do they?
"The German news site Heise reports (German, Babelfish version) that the city council of Munich (3rd biggest city in Germany, 1.3 million inhabitants) has voted for the detailed concept of the LiMux - Linux for Munich (German, Babelfish version) project with votes from all parties except the CSU (Christlich Soziale Union, christion social union)."
Trying not to sound to troll-ish, but why was the Christian group the only group to say nay to this? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, correct? Are they saying they support being locked into an operating system and helping a monopoly? I'd think they would be jumping for this...And hell, the philosiphy behind linux is one of sharing and helping your fellows!
I hope he's packing heat. Living so close to microsoft and being the inventor of their competition would make me very scared for my life. We all know how nice megacorperations are, right folks?
First of all, why does the EU want the US's advice? The title makes it sound more like we're just running our mouth's. The EU doesn't much like us at the moment, and this just helps to foster the whole 'america gets up in everyone's grill' image. =/
And secondly, why doesn't the EU want advice from the guys down in the trenches? Is it impossible to get some body of government that listens to the people instead of greedy corporations who pay them off?
Yea, well. We can all tell I'm high. A government for the people? Pfft. I must of taken some baaaaaad LSD.
In other news, SCO recently purchased a used PC from eBay containing its IP and e-mails sent by Linus Torvalds proving that he stole SCO's IP for the linux kernel, and that he didn't actually write the linux kernel.
What? Troll, am I? Well, it's slashdot. Someone had to poke fun at SCO. Sue me.
You must ask yourself though, why in the name of god would anyone want a patent on this for any other reason than monopolizing. This is trivial bullshit, not a formula for creating a gif!
The fact that I can't do anything about these injustices and obvious abuse of the patent system really frustrates me.
As I read the discussion, I notice plenty of people missing the point of this. So, to remind you all, it's for a contest. And from the looks of it (His entry making/. and all...), he's about to win the contest too.
Just a cheap party trick, but it gets you free stuff.
Every time I start windows I'm helping an evil corporation that has been proven to use anti-competitive business practices maintain it's monopoly. Not to mention you really don't know what's in windows. Frankly, I feel safer using opensource software, because people with a practiced eye can peek into what I'm using and tell me if I have any backdoors open for the NSA/CIA/LEP.
I like to see how google has adapted bits of the opensource development model to fit their needs. Just let people do it because they want to do it, don't force them.
See, even the deleopment model is is free (as in freedom). =P
The story says they need to open up some code for all us little people. I can't wait for the EU to sue them again over the license they'll put the code under...
Yea, my dad gets 15 bucks or so for shipping the computers around and collection the money though. So I'l doing pretty well. =P
And that will be the day that every red-blooded linux user switches to Konq.

This may be just a tad offtopic (It's mention in one of the links!) but Lindows has users always logged in as root? ...Are they CRAZY?
Breaking news (Day One): Prominent eBusinesses lose millions over IIS update!
Breaking news (Week later): IIS loses 30% market share due to stupid move on the part of the developers!
MS may be monopolisitc, but they aren't exactly stupid.
Yes, and while we are discussing Americans, I would like to ask you to help me move 4.5 million (4,500,00) dollars (UDS) into another account...

Here here, komrad! I'll get the snurf guns and meet you at the offices! There shall be no DRM, else many people be hit with snurf darts!

And of course, making things hard on the poor hackers is a great thing. I mean, we don't want hackers writing great code, do we?
;)
I *think* you mean cracker.
Wrong. If you're using a shared hosting account for your site, you /can/ be forced to upgrade to php5. The system admins don't go around and ask every user 'do you want php5?', now do they?
Not to mention apache isn't intergrated into a widely-used operating system and isn't impossible to remove.

Just a thought...
Do you think the guys at Valve were stupid? IIRC the HL2 code got jacked because something found its way in through Outlook.
