The only Steam games (and I have quite a few) I can't play offline are MMO games. The rest is perfectly playable, once installed...
The "once installed" is the rub. If you don't have Steam installed on your machine already, you can't play any Steam games. You can't install Steam without an internet connection. You can't install a Steam "Backup" without Steam installed, and if the game has Steam DRM, you won't be able to play it until it's phoned home once. So basically, all your Steam "Backups" are "worthless" if you want to do a fresh install when your internet connection is down, or after the eventual and inevitable demise of Steam.
I "have" a massive Steam library, mostly of very deeply discounted games, but I don't fool myself into thinking I own those games, nor even copies of them. If they weren't extraordinarily inexpensive, I wouldn't have bought them. The only Steam game which cost more than a few bucks for which I paid full price was Half-Life 2, and I will never pay more than a few bucks for any Steam DRM-protected title ever again, because of the DRM. I have personally encountered this scenario, and I don't want to encounter it again.
You don't need steam to play your games, just navigate to the install directory and launch the executable. If it's using steam as drm method the game won't launch but the vast majority of my games just start without steam installed.
I wonder how they get a rip before the DVD comes out? I'm going to guess that the theaters now get digital copies and those get rippped. I wonder why they can't control that effectively. E.g. watermark every theater's version differently.
The DVD from another region is used for the rip. It's a study about the delays between regions, not between theater and home release.
Haven't used Linux for ages. Under Windows I can have a deluxe NVIDIA driver installed right now.
The blob has the same performance in linux as in windows, games generally yield the same performance too, except for some that use a wrapper without decent optimization.
See here for a januari test - http://www.phoronix.com/scan.p...
The nvidia header file releases discussed in this article and their future plans might boost the opensource driver linux though, which performs badly.
Can't you update the Z1 with the sony tool or is the tmobile version different? Over here there's few isp-supplied phones and they all are the same version as the ones you buy in the shops.
It was a shill for a pay service. If you want to PAY for what is free elsewhere.
Personally, I wouldn't pay for it. Chances are, the band who wrote it and plays it will never see the money, it goes directly to the owners of the song; the music industry. So, if you pay for music, you are actually encouraging an industry that steals intellectual property, rips off the artist and in most cases discards the artist after their peak of profit dwindles. Artists could do without the industry by simply giving away their music, as promotional, and charging to play live. No industry needed for this scenario. This is the age of the internet, the do-it-yourselfer, the tools are within everyones reach. A band doesn't need an industry, maybe a few friends to help is all, that is needed. Fuck the industry. Don't pay for music, it only encourages the middlemen to pump up the price and rip EVERYONE off, while contributing nothing of any real value. It is a parasite. Don't pay for music.
Because by not paying the artists will get more money?
Can you show me to stats which support your point that their user base is dropping (implied by: "they'll find their user base dropping away even further")
In server environments I see a lot of companies increasing the amount of ubuntu installs.
I can't speak for dekstop installations from professional experience but there is no metric I can find that shows it going down (only place I know can check are the steam stats, but thats just a subsection of linux users) and non-technical users mostly only know Ubuntu as far as linux goes.
I think this might work against them too: as far as I can see a lot of people don't yet know the chromebooks, they get introduced to them this way. Even if the ads are negative, more people than before know chromebooks.
If he really has no facebook&twitter because account, chances are that he is running ghostery and no icons will be seen nor will he be tracked in that way.
Handsfree for me is not "fiddling with the phone". Unless you are talking about a headset but that's not really handsfree since you need to put in the earpiece and get your hands of the steeringwheel to actually take the call.
So first you need to define handsfree to be able to compare. Why would a phonecall be handsfree if you need to use your hands?
This 100w power standard is pretty stupid, though. We're talking power levels where fires will definitely be possible from damaged USB cables.
As opposed to all of the current laptop chargers, AC power cords, DC converter bricks, etc out there now?
Those cables are built for that power, do you want to carry around usb cables that thick for every device that uses usb? Unless there is a way for the chipset to identify the cable (no high power if the cable is a type that's thinner than a certain size) it could be a risk. You can't trust users to decide sensibly if the thin cable would be safe to charge your laptop if the connector is the same as the thick cable that came with the laptop. Lots of people reason that if it fits, it should work.
Not really. The laptops really are great hardware regardless of which OS you run on it. Unless of course you are one of those people with an irrational hatred of all things Apple.
Same specced other brand laptop gets close to half the price of macbooks so it's not always irrational hatred, some people have limited funds.
Are there no phones for sale in regular electronic shops in the US? Over here we have some carriers with locked phones in combination with longterm contracts but most people just buy the manufacturer labeled phones (these are pretty clean installs with the usually manufacturer skins) since the "subsidised phones" are just expensive loans.
I just go to software sources and select in the additional drivers tab whether I want the old, current or experimental drivers and video updates are transparant from that point. Since switching my gaming machine to experimental drivers (beta nvidia i think) I didn't have any problems, drivers are always latest beta. The machines at work just run the default nvidia ubuntu driver but they are all nvidia ion based, the most work they do in 3d is google earth, desktop accell is not that hard.:)
I guess the ease of install is probably more Ubuntu than nvidia (don't know if other distro's have it this easy). Are there many distro's that still require manual installation of the nv driver?

I don't understand that this blatant lying by Apple about the mails isn't outright punished, every company I've known urges the higherups to keep their old mails for stuff like this so the judge must know they've been deleted to hide something. Same goes for Samsung, just deleting them and acting like it's normal practise.
They should both get penalised instead of cancelling it out when the 2 say 'fuck you' to the courts.
I another brand can make a perfectly reliable car and get the sync going, shouldn't it be valued higher in a review? So that's why they deducted points.

That would make it even easier, you choose which sites to fund by whitelisting them on adblock/ghostery/blocker of choice.
In this case, adblock the offenders and notify them about it. I'd think that an adblocked site can't use the google tools to track your activity.

"firewalls, proxy servers, MTA, secure file servers" and "not machines that will see terabytes of traffic daily" clash somewhat...

Scrap "because" in front of account, for readability and stuff :)
Good thing I never used either FB or Twitter.

Probably intentionally seen his agenda, being on Oracle's paylist I see why he wants to hurt google, FOSS and who knows who else.

Source?
I find this on their site https://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6603
so if you have other info I guess legal action against them is possible.
