I also love it when they advertise for someone with more years of experience than a language or technology has even existed. Must have 15+ years of C# experience, etc.
I completely agree with you about Windows Media Player. The media library in the latest version is as close to perfect as I've been able to find. While Amarok is good, the library doesn't come close to the new WMP.
Personally, I can't wait for Duke Nukem Ultimate Edition. I'm sure it will be released right after Duke Nukem Home Premium, so I'll hold out a bit longer for that.
Obviously you've never seen the blind kid who uses ECHO LOCATION. Google it and watch the video. It's amazing. Try not to get to caught up on the fact that his mom's name is Aquanetta. I shit you not.
My company just finished dealing with this. For us, getting our services working in vista has been an absolute nightmare. We're done now, but the headaches seemed endless for a while. The interesting part is that now that we're ready for Vista, our customers are all either requesting new pc's with XP instead of Vista, or they are intentionally downgrading because they don't like it. Out of the thousands of customers we have, not one of them is actually using Vista. So, we did all that work and they still want to use XP. Sort of telling, I guess.
I've also heard it referred to as mitochondrial memory. Along this same line, you might consider one of the most amazing books ever written: Power, Sex, Suicide by Nick Lane. It's an amazing book about Mitochondria. Change the way you look at the world. At least it did for me.
Very well said. I found that having a whiteboard and actually saying out loud what I'm writing down helps immensely. I wish that my teachers had taught us how to visualize mathematical concepts better. Not only does it help with the whole "when am I ever gonna use this?" question, but you become better at explaining it to others as well. That in itself is another fantastic way to learn your stuff.
All I ever got in high school was: "Here is the formula, here's how you plug stuff in." When I got to college that kind of teaching failed me miserably. I basically had to reinvent how I learned, in order to be able to understand higher level concepts. Don't be afraid to move backwards should be stamped in every math text book.
Mitochondria are thought to be earthly parasites that shed their unused parts and merged with our cell for the mutual benefit of both. Carl Zimmer paints a vivid picture of this in some of his books. I read "Parasite Rex", and it freaked me out. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the recommendation. I just ordered it. I read a little bit about this in Carl Zimmer's "Parasite Rex" and have been fascinated by Mitochondria ever since. He describes how Mitochondria were once a parasite that basically became part of the cell because of the combined benefit. Zimmer's book is also one of those eye opening, life changing books. If you haven't read it, I very very highly recommend it. It will scare the shit out of you and fascinate you all at the same time.
Well said. It seems like the Electoral College is also a great way of keeping the genaral population from being completely whipped into a hateful frenzy, distracted by a charismatic sociopath, and voting for him en mass. This would have the potential to destroy a direct vote democracy in the long run.
The jury can pretty much do whatever they want. The judge uses strict sounding instructions to try to bring the jury in line with what he wants, and what he says they're supposed to do. Juries are almost never told about nullification, and most people don't understand what it is, and further, how incredibly important it is to have available.
Crap. I was hoping that I'd be forced to upgrade my system to one of those cool new machines built entirely with Carbon Nanotubes. I hear their just around the corner, sorta like Vista.
Amen to that. I had to stand behind this guy when I was waiting in line to get Billy Dee's autograph 3 years ago. When I finally reached the beloved Lando Calrissian, the tears in my eyes seemed almost genuine.

Wait... makes my computer crash? Now that's where I draw the line.

After seeing the movie, I don't think I'd call them Fantastic. Maybe the 'Adequate Four', or the 'Marginally OK Four.'

I think you meant V1AGr@.

Yup, and if there ever is a real democracy, it will vote itself out of existence within a few elections.

TESTIFY!!
I'm looking at my mouse right now.
You are saying that people *can't* enjoy being doused with semen?
Holy FUCK! This is one of the funniest things I have ever read. Serisouly, I'm in physical pain right now.
So, does this include people who aren't being paid to enjoy being doused with semen then?
I think that Gen Con is actually short for Geneva Convention. It was originally held in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin long long ago.
Amen to that. I had to stand behind this guy when I was waiting in line to get Billy Dee's autograph 3 years ago. When I finally reached the beloved Lando Calrissian, the tears in my eyes seemed almost genuine.
Right on. I'll believe in nanotubes when I see them.
