  1. Re:Adjust your sig on Judges Junk Jailcam · · Score: 1

But I wouldn't be printing out what I'd being doing. Where's the logic in that?

I tried If he=jerk then [dump.him]= true else print You're an idiot, and that just ends with me saying that I should dump the guy if he wasn't a jerk. What you've now written doesn't tell me what I should be doing if he is a jerk (Do it-do what?) and tells me that if he isn't a jerk I'm an idiot. Why would I tell myself that I'm an idiot if the guy isn't a jerk?

  3. Louisiana = Alabama on Licensing Computer Techs As TV Repairmen · · Score: 5, Informative

This is same sort of stupid stuff that Alabama pulls. They charge a licensing fee to sell calculators in the state. This is from a law made in the 1800's when cash registers were introduced. I think politicians thought "if it takes money, we should get some of it." They threw "them thar' cal-u-lating machines" in since they can be used to calculate money.

Yahoo!'s user agreement doesn't protect someone from being abused like that. At least that's not how I read it. It states the user is responsible to NOT post such abusive things, and that Yahoo! cannot control what its users try to post (to a certain degree). It also states that a person may be exposed to things that will offend them. Therefore, Stephen, by registering with Yahoo! he agreed that this stuff might happen.

Another case of someone just trying to make a buck.

I agree, it is obsolutely necessary. Just like it's necessary to learn MATH and not just how to use a calculator. Speedy typing is important for a good job, the only exception would be for coders, networkers, that kind of stuff. It's where straight forward typing is needed (letters to customers, clients, law papers, e-mails to same, etc., etc.) that it's importance becomes clear.

And I swear I hate those IMer's who type in shorthand. That's only appropriate for phone text messages. Just what the hell is "prolly" supposed to be anyway? (I know what it stands for, it just's a rhetorical question...)

I don't understand why the solution that worked for the music world wasn't used here. Back when blank recording cassettes were created and mass marketed, the music industry nearly blew a gasket. The compromise is that TDK/Maxell/Fuji and the rest pay a small portion of their sales to the record companies. Kind of a tithe. While it's still illegal for me to copy my CD's onto cassettes and SELL them to people, I can do it for personal use. Everybody's happy.

It's probably how he got the job in the first place..."see, I got this here reverse compiler thingy I've been working on for years now". Great for an interview, not so good for ownership down the road. That's the kind of stuff you hammer out when accepting a positon. He should have required, as a part of employment, partial ownership. He may not have gotten the job, but he'd own the thing now, if he'd finished it on his own.
