And "rate chip". That's a chip that handles rate. Or it's dyslexic for "chip rate". Either way, it still makes sense.

Just how hard is it to figure out what someone is trying to say? Or is it a normal affliction for you to pick out errors? Could be that you're bored.

  9. Re:It's just too hard for them on Women Leaving I.T. · · Score: 1

Well, I'm one of the ones who left the industry. Though I ADORE programming, going thru 3 dotcoms in 6 months (one due harassment, one due to downsizing, one due to 9/11) was too much for me. The problem for me was stability. I had a family to take care of and moving from one job to the next, without benefits in between was too much. So I've gone back to my old career (buying/importing/planning) because of the stability.

My second foray into the programming world, I wound up at a small medical software company, where I was not only the only female programmer, I was also the youngest. Two guys there had been programming in VB since it was practically invented! But I left there because my boss kept making passes at me, which I diverted, and really didn't put much stock into until co-workers started saying things. The enviroment just got too catty (yes, the WOMEN there were a pain), so I left. No reason to stay where I was uncomfortable.

It's not too hard for women. And frankly, I'd really prefer to work in a male dominated arena, it's the OTHER women there that make it hard. It's difficult for non-IT women to understand that just cuz I work with a bunch of men, doesn't mean they're all sleeping with me! They may want to...but I can tell most men to take a hike without being offended or completely grossed out at the concept.

Yes, the rating codes are there for a reason. Its a way for a parent to get an idea of what content lies therein. Why don't parents use it the way it's supposed to be used? Personally, I thought labeling albums way back when was just because parents were lazy, but it seems that now it's become important for parenting skills. I remember when the movie "Interview with a Vampire" came out and my then 13 year old daughter wanted to see it. I went and saw it FIRST before I allowed her to see it because I didn't want to be shocked by something.

Besides, I'm still waiting to find an "A" for Adult game. Something along the lines of "Porn Maker"...

Uh, only if he owned them. But that proves my point. Lucas does own the rights, or at least has the ability to obtain the permission, to change what ever he likes. The "populace" does not have these rights.

Frankly, if I owned a Picasso, and he came to me and said he needed to fix something on it, I'd be the first to let him. It was his vision that painted it in the first place. It's his vision that I paid for, and it's his vision, no matter how many times it changes, that I want to own.

    You missed the point entirely.

No I didn't. Yes, the populace was happy with the movies the way they were. SW:ANH will always be my favorite for that reason. BUT, they're just movies. They're not a way of life. They're not real. They're not changing the world. Well, maybe they changed the role of Sci-Fi as bonified movie genre, but that's it.

I'm tired of all the whining and complaining about what Lucas did to HIS vision. He wasn't happy with them, so he fixed them to what he wanted them to be. So be it.

Apparently, "these aren't the movies you're looking for. Move along."

  19. Everyone needs to pipe down... on George Lucas Speaks on Trilogy Changes · · Score: 4, Insightful

They're his movies, he can do with them what he wants to.

If Picasso decided he didn't like the finished product of one of his paintings, he can take the thing, paint over it, and hang it back up. It's his choice.

I have never understood the "purist" standpoint that everyone else has, when everyone else didn't start this thing in the first place. Granted, it would be nice to have the original VHS movies available on DVD, but hell, even those aren't the original THEATRICAL releases.

Anyone who thinks Lucas sucks, needs to go get a life. Start complaining about how JK Rowling messes up Harry in her next book. Sheesh...
