Cell phone companies take a hit every time these sell you a phone on contract discount...they want to make money on the monthly bill over the long term.
Microsoft will quickly make their money back with online services and game licensing.
Predatory pricing? People are such wimps...can you imagine complaining because the thing is too cheap?
Your last point is really interesting. It brings up the whole idea of how women and men are different.
Would a man, who finds himself in a meeting comprised entirely of women, be uncomfortable and consider himself at a disadvantage due to his sex? I propose that the man, generally, would not feel disadvantaged at all.
But, is this because the man is typically in the majority in this kind of situation? If the man was always in the minority would the situation be reversed? hmm
Canadians live in America, but are not, "American." Geographically, yes, but in terms of nationality, you, the people of the United States, are the only Americans.
Here's a question then. Is someone from Hawaii an American?
Biology is a real science. I can say, I have a theory, I think that cameleons skin adapt to the colour of their surroundings. I can then prove that this is true by taking 100 chameleons and observing that their skin changes color.
I can then say, their skin changes because the chemicals in their skin react to UV rays in sun (or something like that..) I can prove that by observing that the skin won't change in the absence of UV light and I can find out which chemicals are in chameleons' skin, and try an experiment to see if I can make color change on my own.
But, science stops when I say, ok, now I believe that chameleons evolved to have this ability to change color because I can not set up an experiment to prove it. I cannot observe the changes and I cannot repeat the changes. Therefore, it is not true science.
Of course, the ability to prove something is not absolutely related to its repeatability. Historical study is a prime example of that. I can't "scientifically" prove that Julius Caesar even existed. But, I can use the evidence of literature, archaeology and the like to be pretty certain about it.
So, in the case of the eye, the scientists have proven that we have certain materials in the brain that are light sensitive and that these kind of materials could have possibly, over millions of year developed into eyes. This creates a certain degree of possibility that it could have happened, but, it in no way scientifically proves that it did.
You are right about rapture coming from other parts of the Bible, the Revelation of John does not mention it at all.
Rapture is from Saint Paul and was a brand new idea, never once seen in any of the prophecies in the Old Testament (Isaiah, Daniel for instance). See 1 Thessalonians 4 -- For the Lord Himself shall descend with a shout, with the voice of the archangel....
I'll try to put a sensible Christian take on this: (well maybe not sensible, but at least logical)
In the Bible, the Mark of the Beast is going to happen in the Great Tribulation which takes place after the rapture (when, according to the Bible, Christians are brought to Heaven). So, logically speaking, Christians won't even be here for the mark of the beast. And, so why would a Christian today be upset about technologies that suggest that the Apocalyptic events are going to take place soon -- thus bringing them closer to heaven...
Of course, we are talking 6 billion people in the world right now -- there is a lot of technology that still needs to be developed (and paid for) that would enable all worldwide gov'ts to control what people buy. Isn't there?
As a Christian, I say Christians should spend less time making pronouncements about things and more time living what they believe.
Hey, you are right. Telus did do much much better in 2003. Thanks for correcting me.
Microcell (Fido) remerged from restructuring and looks all rosy...but doesn't every company after restructuring?
Telus Mobility is offering the Samsung SPH I700 for $1049.00 Can
Verizon offers the same phone for $699.00 US which is not that different.
From what I understand, cellular phone companies actually lose quite a lot of money every time they sell you a phone. I think that the Canadian companies, competing for a smaller market, have gotten fed up with the losses. Microcell and Telus have yet to make any profit on their cellular division. I do not know about Rogers and Bell. So, the higher prices may simply reflect a refusal on their part to be burned for a client.
Wasn't meant to be a rebuttal to the parent but to the line about fairy tales. Perhaps I put too much faith in my clicking abilities.
Zero evidence is a pretty silly kind of thing to say when even the strictest Atheist historians agree that Christ was born, lived and crucified.
Boy, could we ever have some fun with this one!
Can you prove that Caesar existed? Can you prove that Napoleon tried to conquer much of Europe? Did these things happen: Absolutely! Why? Because there is a great deal of evidence. But how do you prove these things? Impossible! You must weigh the evidence. Saying that Christianity is a fairy tale because of a lack of proof is pretty lame -- not really worthy of slashdot if you ask me.

I disagree. Call of Duty had an awesome single-player game which is actually better than the multi-player (hundreds of losers hopping around, camping in underbrush, and playing stupidly).
The excellent sound, the story, and the frantic pace makes it an excellent single-player game. It immerses you in the war much more than bf1942 ever did.
Doom3 could be really awesome and I do not think the fact that it is single-player will be a detriment to it if they can pull off the story.

So, stop trying to make things better because you can do everything you want on things you have now?
