They don't have half the effect of coming out of the local go-kart track and driving home:O
Hehe, going from very tight little 40mph go-karts on a hairpin indoor track and hopping in my old explorer with worn shocks i actually had to concentrate on driving normally half the way home!
Never had anything near that effect from a video game, those wear off by the first block;) That effect from the karts could have been quite disturbing for some i imagine. You want to GO-STOP-TURN much quicker than your real car is going to want to !
Yup, seen that before. I know several places have barebones kits that come without O/S and something else usually missing. Buy one of these and add a CDROM or whatever.
or
My local shop will build me one with no O/S. Buy local:)
I might try this next time, looks like they actually send you a disk to install yourself on a naked PC if i pay for windows. But the ones i just bought with XP were pretty clean (after unchecking a few boxes)
or
Use windows to build a dual-boot out of your Dell/HP to play games during lunch;)
Find a way for the phone home to work and get rid of the nasty DRM stuff. And don't require the damn CD. I play 2 games regularly, putting in and out of the case daily is too rough on em:/
Get that nasty stuff in there and i won't buy it anyway. Starforce taught me a lesson if nothing else. I never did get my DVD+R (really is only a plus) working right again:/ Wouldn't have been half as annoying if the game wasn't a complete ripoff even without starforce (Midway arcade pack...relive the arcade experience...race games with no wheel support,etc..umm, no)
Actually i may buy something if it is just irresistable, my second machine has no writer now. However if it is a multiplayer game i usually buy 2 copies so the computers can play each other, so no matter how awesome ya still lose a sale. Yes i actually do buy the extra copies, sometimes even a third if it is a race game for my simcar setup;)
Someone thinks all the people dropping $250 bucks or more at a time on entertainment are kids?
Lies, damn lies and statistics
37% of ADULTS who go ONLINE have a console. That says little about how many kids vs adults have a console or even how many adults have one for that matter.
Actually i wouldn't mind if they actually just gave us a box.
Seems like the coupons just add another layer of paperwork, especially since the coupons can't be used for discount off of a more advanced tuner. If they could be used for anything with an Digital tuner a coupon would make more sense.
People like my mom will NOT be happy when this does occur and makes her little (B&W!!) Tv in the kitchen useless that she has been watching for 20 years. Attaching a box the size of the TV is gonna suck and what about an antenna? Does the convertor come with a built-in antenna like the TV? Not poor by any means, just that that is all they require so why buy more? Why should the gov't just decide it is no longer good enough?
Same thing in my case. I suppose i could buy a digital TV (and a new entertainment center...nothing really fits in the hole for my 27" TV now except like a new 22" cause of the width) but i don't have cable (TV is NOT worth that much to me) and i don't watch alot but probably watch something everyday.
I actually looked at replacing my TV but getting half the Size of TV with twice the pixels seemed silly when i have a 19" monitor in the next room with twice again as many pixels. REplacing the entertainment center is a big project as it exactly fits the TV and 1000lb of vintage stereo and i have no desire to redo the several dozen patch cables:(
They are taking away perfectly functioning property, only fair they make it work again. 2-1 odds those don't cover the cost tho:(
Due to schedule problems i got stuck in a regular to low-level geometry class in grade 10. The teacher was the (quite successful) wrestling coach but he couldn't pull a vector outta his ass to save his life. So the teacher teaching the people that don't have the best grasp of the subject has even less of a clue himself.
PS. Teachers hate it when you have to show them how to do the problem they put on the board after noone, including the teacher!!, got it right....hehe, vectors during the time i was in ground school for my pilots license:)
Umm, isn't that EXACTLY what the activeX control says it is doing WITHOUT sending any 'personally identifiable data' so it knows which updates to show ?!?
I take 'personally identifiable data' is still able to identify my machine, my ISP, my IP, my location, my programs, my browser, etc. but it doesn't know my name. Not altogether sure my name is actually in the computer for it to get in fact.
So, i guess it doesn't send any data back but each update you download using it will...pretty sleazy definitions:(
That article(s) was educational. I haven't had to look up so many terms in 30 years. Nothing like a definition that uses another word you don't know;) Oh well, i now know: chiv, ned, yob, and more.
EOC: I hope they don't mind that i scratched their pole....
hehe, my old 2000lb Opel would take out the pole causing 5 grand in damage to a new SUV. 10-mph bumpers rule. Isn't progress wonderful?
We traded in safety in major accidents for totally obsurd costs in minor (can we still call them that, the car would probably disagree) accidents.
One problem tho, the 8-track would probably skip when i hit the pole:(
Admittedly i did like the gadgets on my old t-bird 1990ish, automatic windshield wipers and auto headlight dimming, stock EQ and a zillion seat buttons. But heaven forbid anything happen to any of it, cheaper to get a new car than fix. I wonder about all these cool features when they are on a used car and only half work, will it seem crippled?
hehe, i can relate to the question too as i seem to be one of a very few people with a working Wang 2200 LVP system. Thank God the parts are all but indestructable:)
Part of my own mini-museum along with an mint condition Compaq, a Blackmarket Compaq clone(no id markings of any sort above chip level), an AT clone, my original 386, 486 laptop, etc.
not one of my old 4G in the daily desktops has failed in years, but, 4 of 12 from the 2-1/2 year-old desktops have bit it tho at less than half their age. All 4 within the same 6 months window. Currently replacing those old boxes, i'll be back in 2 years whining about the cheesy hardware... oh well 5 years+ and almost zero maintainence couldn't last forever:(
Wish i could find the article on MTBF, it didnt mean what one would expect it to mean.
"The only reason we are upgrading everyone to XP is for anti-virus and anti-spyware purposes."
And they only reason i am buying new hardware is to run the anti-virus, etc:( All the programs are quite happy on a P3-450 but the security prgrams aren't and choke it to death. Since many of the machines are still Win98 at least no one is asking about Vista;)
But as i recall i would have been cheaper to get 50 single user versions than a 50 pack...however 25 2-packs would have been higher or some stupid combo that made no sense at all:(
ZA pricing is bizarre, as are some of the others. But i stuck with it cause i know the workaround(bug?) to make it work with (ignore) our software;)
ROFL, My pet peeve. They have too much $$$ to make it stick, we tried.
WA state has a litter tax on gross sales for many businesses.....Fast food joints are now exempt! Where the fuck do they think the litter comes from? Well they know but bought off my McD and friends. Obviously.015% of sales would surely bankrupt the poor clown. But we have to pay as a medical supply company. Ensure=nontaxable food=grocery store=tax:/
No doubt this would turn out the same.
And where are these laws they mention for WA? Last time I ASKED they (collection/recycling line) said to just dump the monitor in the trash!
hehe, they seem to forget most of work at a business....
We have a company account there with a discount even but i never use it !
It is not worth waiting around for someone who knows how to deal with selling on an account to get the discount. I spent extra 20 min buying a monitor. Corporate discount = $7.30. Amount company paid for me to wait = $6.67. Frustration > $.63. WooHoo we saved almost one-half of 1%
Even more frustrating was this was during a push for more business accounts with signs and posters up to get more of that business.
Clueless, kinda like the salespeople....
I do like the displays of mice, etc to try BUT you have to be able to sell me the one i decide that I like !! Only stocking my 3rd choice is not impressing me...don't show there are better ones but you won't sell me those...DUH
Our problem here is that our main accounting app is on a unix box and we use a terminal emulator to access. However our vendors have the purchasing info/programs on the web, and pretty sure AT LEAST one requires IE. Thus we need windows underneath. It was pretty disturbing to realize we need a Hyperthreading Pentium 4 or better to efficiantly emulate a DUMB terminal under windows or the firewall/AV chokes the response rate too much:(
We use a web browser, a DOS billing program(that requires Windows installer to load!!...i was gonna build a DOS network with old computers for this part since they are isolated and the program came from a 386-25, damnit), a simple windows billing program and some basic Word and Excel stuff, nothing that requires more than a P3...except for the security software:/
Nothing like finding out a Dumb terminal emulator is a dog on a 1.6gHz box, shesh:(
Anyway, sorry for so offtrack thats been bugging me to no end;) Everything i thought of always had at least one good gotcha in it, best of luck. Watch out for what will trip you up several steps ahead.
Never did come up with a better plan than faster boxes....anyone need a pentium 3 ?
The one time where i would recommend a time-limited program or rental be available. And the last place it probably will be because it makes sense to take advantage of instead of getting taken advantage of.....
I hate the whole $50-60 to run Partition Magic or similiar usually one time:(
Besides having a backup not connected to system, i found simply having a spare disk to steal the circuit board off of to be a life saver:)
I miss the old bigfoot drives we had, everyone said they had problems with them but it was always (in our case) the board that died NOT the disk. I saved a couple of those by swapping in a board for a 1 hour recovery.
If you buy several HD for RAID or whatever buy one more and stick it on shelf for a rainy day. Along with a few utilities you can do 3/4's of what they do for $100 instead of $1000+
And if you read the instructions i am sure they say to test it every week or some other way too often time frame to cover their ass;)
While the times they suggest are crazy, so is less than once a year!
Regardless of VOIP or whatever the wire from the alarm could come loose or something, there is a reason they have a test procedure.
I always worried about someone cutting the phone lines too but the cel phone backup to detect a cut line was way too spendy.
PS. One bonus of being the techie at work is that i am admin for alarm too...thus my home system and work have the same codes for the admin! Much, much better not worrying about punching in wrong number or not knowing the right word;)
"Since i think that public libraries are for quiet reading and research, I don't see the issue"
But i am researching blindness caused by My Space colour schemes, you insensitive clod....
It does seem that a lot of things could lead you there, i don't see how it is inappropiate for a library.
What you think and what the library thinks may not be too similiar...our library has CDs available, how does that jive with reading and research better than My Space?
"To suggest that the engineers who designed an inkjet printer didn't think of "clogging" as a major potential issue is ludicrous."
This would be a lot more convincing arguement if i didn't have 2 clogged epsons (which i actually liked) in the garage.......
