Our little office still uses the old tr-3 tapes for daily/weekly backup for offsite storage. Along with a parallel port tape drive and an extra internal drive (one of my home computers is convertable into a temp server) stored offsite.
If the office burns down i assume one day vs a few hours will be pretty irrelevent since there wont be anything to plug it into anyways!
System also has a backup on the opposite HD from the data. Dont recall the last time i ever used either to restore to time to restore is not an issue with us. Our old backup program doesnt do cd/dvd without intervention and i see no reason to spend money on hardware AND software when the overnight automatic backup to old tapes works fine.
Unfortunately most new computers seem to barf up on these old drives (floppy cable driven) so the next box HAS to be upgraded:/
Our new unix system uses a dds tape as will the replacement for our current unit soon. The little dds tapes are a nicer pocket size anyways;)
Gee, if i had known these were STILL news...

I would have given you the story years ago.
The robot has been running at our hospital since i can remember. Dont really remember much else about it, was news at one point a long time ago in a gal......
At least he would qualify for those low phone rates;p
Actually, i am more interested in when US decided

Our Friend, The Meter

NOT to go metric. I was taught both systems in school since the changeover was immenient, but they dont even bother teaching metric stuff nowdays it seems (at least the young un i asked) !
Yet, nothing was actually in metrics except those little foreign cars vs virtually everything being metric or dual labelled now. Guess we figure the world will get bored and change back for us...
Along a common theme with several others.
LIGHTS: Mine is much too bright and no dimmer. All white paint doesnt help the matter:(
And
HEAT/AC: My office and another new one are smaller than the showroom also on the same circuit and much quicker (too quick) to react to changes. If the air needs to be on mine is cooled below comfortable before the main room is affected:/
Also:
POWER: everywhere. I got this right as i got to design the circuits:) There is an open outlet up 2 ft and over 2 ft from my right hand right now in addition the usual ones behind the desk. Great for plugging in chargers or something for the day.
FURNITURE: I am prejudiced and like the desk i built (u-shaped desk of 2" oak laminate). Tough choices here i'll let others thrash this out;)
Of course, BUT...........
Nothing is too happy to hook to my Wang 2350 terminal except the old Wang:)
Well, that and it requires a small nuclear plant to power the crt:(
a real nerd uses 2000 watts and 600 lbs of equipment to play battleship;)
CC numbers is not the only thing recoverable...
In Fact that is where i got my first VIRUS ! Doh!
Yup, got a pallet of old computers and was putting parts together to make a couple complete ones. Most of the drives werent even formatted. I got shipping programs and stuff too like someone else. BUT, one of them seemed to have the michelanglo virus. Found it when i took a boot or data transfer disk back to main computer and norton threw a fit. Of course by then it was on all the drives and floppies i was building:(
So, if ya all are gonna dumpster dive watch what you plug the stuff into:)
If people want to buy a gaming box they should have a way to know it really will.
I would be pissed buying some 'Gaming' machine i saw advertised. Some cheesy box, integrated grphics and all. No different than any other box except they said gaming and add $100 (was a basic $400 for $500)
Seems the obvious answer to alot of these types of things is making them CLEARLY tell people what they are doing to/with what info.
DOnt read my mail without telling me.
Dont install stuff without telling me.
Dont send out info without telling me.
Preferably telling me why in the process.
Then i can tell em to take a hike.
Personally i thought them adding ads from email might be amusing when most my mail is trying to sell me something in the first place. Next we need animated mail where the ads can duke it out...
I wonder how long that purdy bubble lasts when exposed to gravel/sand/debris from the road at speed. Seems like it would gets the sand blasted effect pretty quickly with no front end to deflect any of it....
It seems they havent figured out where to put the batteries yet so maybe they will figure out where the bumper goes then.
"Still, my credit card was due to expire within a few weeks, so I didn't lose much sleep over it:-)

Should be ok at Paypal...i think. but DON'T use this logic for recurring payments on CC, They do NOT neccessarily need the expire date! Sony was able to continue billing me afterwards:(
I am still trying to figure out my mouthwash...
Got a little tiny bottle of scope at 7-11.
Instructions say to swish 1 oz in mouth for min (or however they worded it)
They dont mention what to do with the other 1/2 oz that came in the bottle.....
Yup, they say to use 1 oz so they sell you a 1.5oz bottle ?!?
BUT, there is no income tax so private citizens never see any forms so i imagine VERY little ever gets paid. I wouldn't know how to pay it if i wanted too !!!
It does show on business forms to submit sales tax, so some business may report some. I would be surprised if business reported more than a few % of actual overall and if private even got to 1%.
hehe, thousands of miles away from america? Heck most people dont know what the car in my driveway is because they were only imported for a while:(
Opel Manta (A for you euros, we only got one model) btw
I would be shocked if ANYONE here knew what Tatra was... on the other hand it is fairly easy to check nowdays.
You decide to go with the smaller company that gets bought out DURING your implementation of said software :(
DOH!
Sometimes you just cant win anymore.

Obviously They did say it will happen... soooo, how do they know this? The last try must have turned all the records into ACSII art ;)
