The only specs that keep a program from running would be video card and processor. Processor is pretty easy to ID when you buy a computer. At least as long as AMD or Cyrix or someone doesn't make a qxd3400 that really runs at 450MHZ! AMD is close to the edge, but there is some rough equivalancy still it seems.
All we really need is Nvidia to stop muddy the waters with those damn cards names made to confuse people!
There may be exceptions, but they would probably still be execeptions without a spec for levels that is harder to figure out than the real specs:(
On the other hand, with Hyperthreading and other stuff becoming moe common to increase power a standard for processor power or processor+video power could be handy for many.
Besides we already have levels: $300 $400 $500 etc!
Half of our office still runs my trusty old PIII-450. They connect to either a old DOS billing program, or to our new unix based accting program. The training center for our new program actually has green-screen wyse terminals still running. All we need is enough horsepower to run Windows for easy networking and Word97. A couple of us that do more have bigger (1-something GHZ) boxes.
Our old Wang Minicomputer had a btu rating listed (5 digits i think!) as well as power consumption (1950w at startup!! and only for the hard disk part!). I am not sure it wasnt a more efficient heater than my heater since it went down to 900w or so after the drive got up to speed:)
Well, Turbine is probably the best at MMORPG stories. In fact they can do it all quite well. Now if they just get it all together in the proper proportions in the same game......
Almost word for word what i was gonna reply.
Makes sure you dont get some bored assistant doing something they souldn't with em. Better safe than sorry.
But it offloads the some or all of the actual downloading with the ability to compensate download source.
That sound close?
If i buy some shareware stuff currently they send me to one of several places to download it. I assume those places get compensated someway currently. Same idea but i could be one of those places i guess. Just a plan/hope to scale it through the roof. Sounds like i could decide how much i want to be compensated? Too much to read too late in the day too this late in the week;)
Didnt get to the part of how they apply watermark and what guarentees a legit file.
If that worked a single source would be convenient. Unless of course it costs the same as picking it up next time i am at Walmart, which seems to be the desire of the ??AA types however.
HOW DO I MAKE PARAGRAPHS HERE????
The more detailed article says he was t-boned after swerving into oncoming traffic. A motorcycle may very well have killed him too.
Bumper heights and weights aren't gonna change that too much. Few cars (short of some new ones) have the strength to survive a hit to the side. My old Opel would probably look the same if t-boned by a minivan. Although a Hummer would probably go over the top and flip itself and crush us both !
Likewise, if a geo metro gets t-boned by anything you are gonna be in trouble. Heck i saw a cop nearly crushed when he spun and got 't-boned' by a telephone pole and he was in one of those monster Crown Victoria cop cars.
Side impacts are not good in 90% of cars on the road.
As to why it swerved into traffic is, of course, another matter.
All the update files are sitting in the folder:
Windows Update Files
One of them being the file:
This folder is safe to delete.txt
Remember the good old days when things were simple, hehe right.
As to the actual question i can only guess Yes:)
..how to integrate those stupid computer generated sales calls with spam with VOIP:(
If VOIP is not treated as a phone service with all the fees does that mean that its ok to use automated sales calls here if its a VOIP # instead of POTS ? (not ok in WA on POTS currently)
yikes
As long as they arent planning to lose 80 million in online music they did ok....but...
They seemed to have lost over 8 mil on it last quarter so they have 2-1/2 years to turn around Napster which losing more money than it takes in.
Spending 16 million to sell 8 million in music is a business plan ?!?
They already have the name recognition and they have the music (well, close anyway) so what are they missing that they can fix?
So depending on how much money the bigwigs take and run Napster and its annoying college scams should be gone soon.
Yes?
No?
In case you are wondering, since we have one of the rare 2004 copies of SCO software.
A third party vendor is still selling them as part of their accounting package because thats what it has always used and stability is priority number one (or damned close). None of the customers are gonna risk a $50k accounting package gettign messed up to see if it works on something else.
I imagine there are other third party vendors the same. SCO sure better hope so since ours probably only uses a couple dozen copies a year!
All the issues listed are not issues for these uses.
Support is from the third party anyway, dont need SCO;)
We dont use 2G files or 64-bit systems to run it.
I doubt many of the users mess with the unix stuff at all so other programs availble dont enter into it.
Anyone doing their own thing on Unix would probably have a running box and not buy the preloaded one anyway.
They are still out there, but the vendors using it seem to be small specialty programmers. Dont really blame them for using what worked. Course that didnt keep me from giving them a hard time about it;p
Most mmorpg have well over 1000 (only 600 on AC, does play like CS most times) per world which is usually a handful of boxes. Say 100-300 ppl (population vary widely) per box it has to track plus NPCs and monsters. They also have to track things like moving you inventory in a pack or adjusting character stats and usually have more complicated 'dice' rolls for damage. FPS usually have 10-40 people per server and little else that moves.
Thats hardly fair.
How about personal planes vs personal auto?
They have come pretty close to same increase. Werent many zippy 200-300 mph private planes 40 years ago.
Compare commercial cars/trucks with commercial planes perhaps. Neither of which is particularly impressive performance. (yes, both made some economy gains though)
hehe, getting bit by a dog could bring a whole new meaning to identity theft!

in place of all the features they have been promising for ages but cant complete.
Not impressed
One of the links said its because it encourges dabbling in the occult or something.
Seems this would only be a problem if it actually worked. Maybe these parents know something we don't !?!
I'll test this out myself as soon as i find a wand made from a Phoenix tailfeather or Unicorn hair...
a btu rating like the old mini-computers did?
:)
Rack servers maybe ?

I had this book recommeded to me for adults also.
;)
:(
:0
Cant remember where i saw the review but they strongly recommended it for 'your parents' also
Got it but havent looked at it yet
After seeing my sister on the web, i'll add clueless siblings as well to the list
those new cel phone viruses.
:)
I can see it now, you pick up a virus that turns your virtual girlfriend into a virtual mother-in-law.
Well, Turbine is probably the best at MMORPG stories. In fact they can do it all quite well. Now if they just get it all together in the proper proportions in the same game......
Sounds logical to me, afterall my new motherboard has the install instructions on a CD.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmm

You might have a bigger problem than Google and the SEC ;)
... spend 7-8 figures on lawyers I guess thats one way to lose your figure ;p

We won't be allowed to use our computers as 'recording or playback devices' soon anyways ! :/

Opel Manta fan, what can i say :)
Opps forgot to make that Manta A, if you're not in US ;)
Not to mention its tough to do something requiring such skill because of some inherent lag in mmorpgs.

to download more and more copies of linux distros til music and movies are a tiny percentage of downloads ;)
