A couple of years ago, I needed to access a Department of the Army system for my work. The password requirements included, I shit you not, alternating numbers and letters. A password including any two numbers or two letters in a row would not validate. They expected (I guess) people to use passwords like 5h8d3l7v.
Guess what my password was? 1q2w3e4r5t
I'm sure at least 50% of the users chose that same password.
They're actually running those information spots about the changeover every 20-30 minutes. And yet, vast numbers of have no idea what's about to happen.
They did test MS-DOS. The article referred to Win98 results, which were faster than Win2K results, but don't recommend 98 due to it not supporting wear-leveling.
So you wouldn't have a problem with me letting the air out of your car tires. I'm not doing any physical damage, so there's nothing malicious about my actions. Good to know!
There is no license required to build and sell a a CD player. There IS a licence required if you want to CALL your optical disk reader a "CD player."
And you can still do this. The LG BH100 combination BluRay and HD-DVD player (I had one) couldn't display the HD-DVD logo because it didn't meet all the requirements of the HD-DVD player licensing. But it could still play HD-DVD movies just fine.
We didn't have unmanned probes back in those days. If European powers had been able to send remotely operated probes out across the Atlantic to make the initial explorations and find ideal colonization sites, the first manned voyages across the Atlantic might actually have been one-way trips.
"It's about the developers... when Microsoft can say "Your application is requesting rights it doesn't need and is annoying your users", then the app developer will hopefully get with the 20th century and write is properly."
I think that is the problem... The developers are only "with the 20th century." They need to catch up with the rest of the world.
"The current dispute is over whether your state can ask a company in another state to collect sales tax from you and remit it to your state"
Oh, they certainly can ask. Anyone can ask for anything. The question is whether or not they can command a company operating outside their jurisdiction to do it.

Actually, they don't even have seperate keys to assign people. They're just issuing the same eight keys to everyone over and over again.

Well, judging from the number of Zune owners who couldn't listen to music on new years eve, it probably should be.
What, all three of them?

You don't like what in the us?
It just turns off a tv, it doesn't break it.

Hell, think about how much Windows 7 is a step-back from Windows 2000!
I think you're also going to need some chewing gum to hold your ICBM together.

How depressing.
The same reason we don't have a reliable traceback system for email...
Security wasn't a concern when it was designed.

Yeah, I keep getting fired all the time, too, and it's never my fault. Something's horribly wrong with the world, but I'm golden.
The only MMOG that did PvP right was PlanetSide.
Well, to be fair, I don't know many people who carry their driver's license in their swimsuit, either. Or did you mean diver's license?
"And since when did Canada become the enemy??"

Also, Mexico is part of the continent of Central America.
Central America is not a continent; it's a region of North America.
Calling Central America a continent is like calling the Middle East a continent.
WTF? I didn't get an oversized novelty foam finger!
Who are you who are so wise in the ways of science?
Say goodbye to those islands, either way. If we do nothing, what do you think rising sea-levels will do?

That should be "obsolete" of course. I fail at speeling.
