It's astonishing how many people in my office (intelligent folk) can't cope with using Google. My manager will frequently ask me to google something despite having the same facilities I do.
She also regularly asks me to spell words which could easily be found by searching Google with something resembling the word and selecting "did you mean..."
2) It is cheaper for the merchant. Cash = no merchant fees.
Depends. Often large stores want to get rid of cash as over a certain point the handling fees become prohibitive. Ever noticed how they always try to offer cashback?
I know, but my actions don't result in lost sales since I don't even play the games when they are free, I would definitely not buy and play any games costing the amount of money they cost now.
Other than the lightsaber app, that's pretty standard on most high-end phones. I pay a lot less for my Nokia N95 8GB, and on features alone it beats the iPhone. Naturally, it can't compete on interface, but it's not as bad as people tend to report. In some ways I prefer the interface even - buttons have their advantages.
I know that his last name is linked to his heritage, possibly race, which is what they are (or were) discriminating against. Absolutely NOTHING to do with terrorism incidentally.
You're right, the filter being too strict was an honest mistake. What is less honest is the response he received from the company when he queried it. Suggesting he change his name to better comply with the whims of their computer is offensive, bordering on racist.
In anything but a monopoly he could vote with his wallet and let Verizon know what he really thinks.
It's just a way of succinctly describing various developments (both social and technological) which have occurred on the web in the last few years. It's true that people tend to overuse it and the point that it becomes a meaningless buzzword, but here the use is very appropriate. I don't find it insulting or dumb at all - what's in a name?
If you ever get lost in Europe, find a teenager and ask for directions in English. They love to speak to native English speakers.
They would prefer you to at least look like you're making an effort with their language though. Even if you know you'll end up speaking English, I always find it's best to go in with what little of the native tongue you can first, then let them "work out" english is going to be easier.
At that point - you're right once English is established, they love to show it off.
Offtopic (ish): Why would a company want to block Yahoo on their network? Surely it's just another source of information. I can understand blocking Answers or Shopping or some specific property, but to block the WHOLE of something the size of Yahoo seems weird.
How are Google in any position to change the rendering methods of various browsers?
It's daft to say that since there is a lack of support in some areas, all development should be stopped across the board. Ideally everyone will move to HTMl5 and JS2, but since that isn't happening any time soon (in terms of my own career/learning it may as well be 20 years away), does that mean all the development in these areas should just stop?
Yes, apparently you can now use it on the Google App Engine!

Weird.
Slashdot ID, not linked to any other persona, certainly nothing real (i.e. non-Internet). That's anonymous enough for most purposes.

Maybe he was referring to the tube, rather than the trains. In the last ~6 months I can remember only a couple of problems with the undergrounds.

They're not blaming you specifically you know.
Poor FrumbumnÃr, I knew him well.
Mod parent up for creativity!
Should add a caveat to this rant: I am not at all familiar with the app store. My comments about features may be redundant.

*Looks around huge creative design agency office with around a 3:1 XP-PC:OSX-Mac split, all running CS3 collaboratively and scratches head.*
Troll? Please mod parent up, made me laugh after reading Aggrav8d's comment and feeling annoyed.

What, really? I enjoyed SC4, and while there were things I would have changed, it sounds like you're asking for some sort of SimRoad.
No kidding. If you're having to mark it as sarcasm, it would ruin the joke.
"Humour, like a dog, is less fun once dissected." - some guy. (Groucho Marx?)
The Left rules Wikipedia; I'll be d*mned if there gonna get at MY genome!
Or even want to.
Actually, wtf, it's just reading, not proofreading. Pah, it's midnight here, too late for me. :(
The review was written by the student. Great proofreading.

I too hope it is, but even if it isn't, his point is not diminished.
That and, ya know, shortening the URL. Why so suspicious?

People who are actually doing things (e.g. http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/05/09/1514208) will likely disagree with you.
