    When these 'farms' accidentally release stock into the surrounding waters, it's a catastrophe for the native ecosystem

    We'll see. This very thing happened recently in the Puget Sound.

    Some claim that the non-native Atlantic salmon will just die off, as they have no home spawning ground to return to. On the other hand, they might just return to any old convenient river to spawn, competing with the native species and also laying waste to environmentalists claims that all salmon habitat is precious and must be protected. The experiment is underway and time will tell.

  8. We tried to set up an early version of a block chain to sign and track engineering document revisions at Boeing about 20 years ago. Management freaked out, as this would have hampered their ability to go into the document management system and retroactively fix their screw-ups.

    I don't see Boeing implementing anything that enforces accountability or provides an audit trail.

    The largest polluters in the world are still ramping up as their economies rise and their governments have no real interest in this except as an economic weapon.

    China is doing a pretty good job ramping up renewable/alternative energy sources to slow down and eventually replace their coal consumption. But they are doing so only to the extent that they don't screw over their economy in the process.

    Meanwhile, here in the USA, we are doing our best to decommission some of our greenest power sources: hydro electric dams. Because of 'Muh fish'. When the dams aren't even the major factor in depleted salmon runs. Pinnipeds are. Shoot the seals.

    Correct. It is in the interest of Fortune 500 Inc to be aware of (and monitor for quality control purposes) any subcontractors actually doing work in its name. The entity seeking the lowest price option should be Fortune 500 Inc, not Cubefarm Dystopia.

    Fortune 500 Inc configures one of the numbers that they own to be the reported source of Cubefarm Dystopia's calls.

    Always this. They can spoof the legitimate bank customer service number. So don't assume the caller ID is correct. Always tell them that you will call them back at a convenient time.

    It's like offering an apartment unit for rent. Someone signs the lease and they move in. Only later do you find out that they are using it for surveillance on the neighbors.

    Having sex

    Homo sapiens as well as their distant primate relatives had frequent sex, both during a female's period of fertility as well as outside of it. The physiology of the species hides the females estrus cycle and they are receptive to the act of sex when not fertile as well as when they are. This has important implications for sociological bonding within groups. So I think it's accurate to say that they were 'having sex' both recreationally as well as for the purpose of procreation (if they even gave a thought to this side effect of the fun part).

    If you make under $300k/yr the answers don't bode well for you.

    But this is a country where anything is possible. Most of us aspire to earn more than $300k/yr, so Kavanaugh and his ilk are our guys.

    Actually, it has much more utility when used peacefully. Weaponizing such a capability risks the genetic modification spreading into non combatants' crops. Or even our own. On the other hand, propagating disease resistance protects our food sources. But should such a beneficial trait spread world-wide, it would also protect the crops of our adversaries. Making them less likely to go to war with us over food. A win-win situation. Unless your goal is to incite uprisings and eventual war by spreading starvation and disease throughout potential enemy populations. Then, this is a potentially devastating technology.

    Nothing. As long as you keep your drone above a minimum safe altitude. Crash your toy into a bunch of people and those blades can do a lot of damage.
