I'm downwind from a nuke plant. No big deal. The notion that you wouldn't want to live near a nuke plant is complete fiction.

Have you ever driven through Gary Indiana? Or downriver detroit? Or the Bronx? Or East LA? Or Washington DC east of the Capital? Or any number of smelly places near petroleum refineries? There's millions of people who live near things a whole lot worse than a nuke plant.

  12. Same old story on Outsourcing is Good for You · · Score: 1

Let's help the rich guys get richer, and the poor will do better because the stuff falling from their table is more nutritious.

The problem is that the rich guys are getting WAY richer than the rest of us, and faster too. When the country grows wealth, most of that pie is ending up in the coffers of rich people and rich companies. This is a basic inefficiency in the system. People just love to complain about taxes soaking up a big part of the GDP, and thus slowing growth. But nobody talks about concentration of weath into just a few companies and families doing a similar thing.

Think about it. When a company like Ford has more than 20 billion in the bank, but isn't really adding piles of new jobs, we have to ask ourselves "what are they waiting for?" When Ford hits a bank balance of 100 billion, will they suddenly start adding jobs? Is that the secret they aren't telling us?

And that's why I am skeptical of the arguments for outsourcing. Manufacturing products overseas is a completely different than sending service jobs overseas, and she has to realize that.

  13. Make sure that you know what ripe means. on Banana Power! · · Score: 5, Informative

Ripe doesn't mean yellow. Ripe means black and squshy. If you make a banana bread with bananas that aren't ripe enough, you'll get a flavorless bread.

Let those things get some nice big black spots on them. That's the full banana flavor developing.

Take it from the experts - the fruit flies. If you give them a choice, they will always pick the squishy banana over the not-ripe-enough yellow ones. And you should too.

nobody wants people to go without food, healthcare, shelter, education.

The latest news on CNN is that we DO want them to go without overtime pay. There are still some differences between the parties, and in my opinion it doesn't do anyone any good to blur the distinctions as you have done.

I also think that Vietnam is entirely relevant to today's events. On one hand we have a President who spent his time in Alabama, presumably suffering in a hot, humid summer. On the other hand, we have a candidate who actually had bullets flying at him from BOTH banks of the river. Thomas Sowell would just love for us to forget about all that, but we can't. As we have all heard somewhere, character matters. The character to be compassionate for your fellow human, the character to care for the environment, the character to stand up to corporate machines and say NO to taking away overtime pay.

And character to love your country enough to risk eating a bullet. Thomas Sowell was a military photographer in the Korean war. I'm sure that he "shot" many of his enemies. Shame on him for saying that the details of a man's military service don't matter. For god's sake, there are some people that would have us believe that a blowjob and some sperm mis-spend on a blue dress matter, so why not military service?

Republicans believe in spending government money to advance the interests of rich people. They get us to go along with it by saying it'll trickle down.

Democrats believe in spending government money to advance the interests of everyone. This upsets Republicans because when you spread the money around like that, it helps a lot of people a little, but nobody gets rich.

That seems to be a pretty accurate description of how each side spends money. Let's face it - the Republicans say they are all for reducing the size of government, but they grow it instead.
