It seems to me that if BinaryMemtable is so incredibly fast that other things become a bottleneck, then you're in a great position. You have something very fast for storing and retrieving data - you just need to get bigger, faster pipes.

  4. Re:There's more to this story on Our Low-Tech Tax Code · · Score: 1

Here is where many people go wrong. They treat health insurance as a way to game the system and get someone else to pay for everything. Everyone wants a plan where everything is covered, including a $100 doctor's visit and $5 for antibiotics - then they wonder why their premiums are so high. That isn't what insurance was designed for, and it is one of the big reasons (imho) why health insurance costs are skyrocketing here in the US.

If you want to pay lower premiums, then contact your provider and work out a plan with higher deductibles and lower drug coverage. This is insurance, as in, "I can afford paying my own way for a half dozen visits to the doctor a year and some generic drugs, but if I fall and break my head open and need brain surgery, I'll need help paying."

Car Analogy: Does your car insurance cover a head light going out?

Too many people, the left in particular, has an insane sense of entitlement and want everything provided without paying the cost. Well, guess what - it doesn't work that way - and that includes government-provided health care. There's no such thing as free - someone has to pay for it.

I have tried this on several occasions and I find the interface confusing, the software itself bloated and slow, and the internal plugin manager is always broken and can't download dependencies correctly - if at all.

Sure, there are posts all over the place that are supposed to help fix these issues: Download X from Y, and A from B, and then modify this configuration, and, and, and... ...and I shouldn't have to. It should 'just work'. I spent half a day trying to get the SFTP plugin installed and working and I gave up. I don't have time for that.

My personal favorite, as far as 'large' IDEs go, is Zend Studio - the last version before they moved over onto the Eclipse Framework.

Obama, by putting Hillary in this position, has marginalized her. He essentially controls what she can and cannot do, and what she can and cannot say. Do you really think that she put this statement out without approval from the President?

On a side note: I don't like Obama or Hillary, but I would rather have Hillary in office because she, at least, has significant political expertise and knows how to make the country feel good. She wouldn't wait 3 days to make a public statement after a bombing attempt on an airplane. It doesn't do anything other than make people feel warm and fuzzy, but that is part of what that job entails.

Nothing is worse than The Rules Lawyer (especially in the middle of combat), or The Munchkin, or The Deep Brooder who doesn't understand why you don't want to read his sixty page character background. Scary people. They are good for business, though...

On a slightly different topic, when I was heavily involved in role playing (D&D and Werewolf, mostly), my groups rarely went beyond the core books. We made our own backstories, our own plots, and didn't ever see a need for "It's a fighter, except it uses oriental weapons and farts fairy dust so it is a different class with a totally different (yet the same) rules!"

If you wanted a fighter that used oriental weapons, well, then guess what - you were a fighter and you used oriental weapons. You don't need a $29 source book for that. It doesn't even make sense.

We did buy the occasional campaign settings - Ravenloft, Planescape, Council of Wyrms - but, keeping true to the Golden Rule of the WhiteWolf system, if it didn't work in our game, it was tossed out. This was always fascinating when someone new would join up, and things wouldn't be Exactly The Way The Bible Says It Is, and would totally flip out.

Honestly, a vast majority of the character classes outside of the core of 6-8 or so are really nothing more than very minor variations on the same theme, nothing that can't be accomplished with some light role playing to add a little flavor.
