At the risk of being called a troll or something, the guards working the concentration camps probably thought they were protecting their homeland. I'm no expert, and assuming they were drawn from the ranks (one could technically make the leap and consider lower ranking SS to also be ignorant). They were told these people were dangerous to their society. Did they have any reason not to believe it (I'd wager that the guards had no way to disprove their superiors in this matter). It wasn't clear-cut as if the jews, gypsies, and others were taking up arms.
Did the guards have a reason not to believe their superiors that their prisoners were "dangerous to their society" WTF kind of question is that? Since when did becoming a prisoner of war make a person less than human? When did it become ok to simply mass murder prisoners?
The suggestion is not that the guards of concentration camps are simply guilty of detaining prisoners, but of what the guards did and allowed to happen to the prisoners while they held them. Ignoring human rights are crimes against humanity.
... that still doesn't give people the right to infringe on other people's copyrights...
Copyright is intended to "promote progress in science and the useful arts" I've never heard of a band quitting because people downloaded their music. What give's people the right to infringe on copyright is the absurdity of present copyright laws. Big companies like Disney have basically stolen our public domain. Every time they've added more rights to copyright, they've also lengthened the term of protection that copyright provided. In 1976 the term went from 55 years to 75 years, and in 1998 it went to 105 years.
For argument's sake lets agree that the protections of the '76 act are fair except for the length. The '09 law provided 55 years of protection. If this were the case today everything published before 1954 would be in the public domain. Now it is "encumbered" for who knows how long because given their past success you know they will try to extend copyright again.
I submit that they (the RIAA and big media) have STOLEN our public domain. I submit that these copyright laws should be blatantly ignored until more reasonable ones are enacted.
This is basically what is happening anyway with regards to digital music.
Forget about Keeanu for a second and ask your self... what (part of the) story are they going to tell? Are they going to try to cram the whole series into 2 hours? Are they going to just cover one episode? I'm thinking that what ever they do it will be a mockery of the the original work.
Also I'd like to debate that music and movies qualify as "useful arts" and therefore do not warrant protection under copyright.
Additionally, it says "to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right" not distributors. When did that right become transferable? This is the problem. Once the big media distributor were able to obtain these "monopolies" on products, it was only logical for them to seek to strengthen their power by extending the monopoly.
The system is flawed, and I don't think our laws reflect the true sentiment in the Constitution.
I don't know where you got that definition but I think it is wrong.
-naut comes from the Greek word for sailor. Not every one who travels by boat is a sailor. A sailor is crew. An astronaut means crew of a space faring vessel. Passengers are not crew.
Wrongo buddy. Society does not exist for it's own sake, it exists for the benefit of the individual. When the majority imposes its will on the individual that is called slavery. I do not make any sacrifices. I make voluntary concessions when I believe it is in my benefit. I trade one benefit for another. Which benefits I trade depend on my individual system of values. Your so called "greater good" is merely oppressing some for the benefit of others.
When one person like you starts talking about how some one else is "anti-social" it seems most to me like your trying to incite a mob to get what you want.
While it certainly isn't Google's fault or any other search engines fault, how many people could they help by providing a link on every results page (off to the side some where) with a little explanation of how the results were achieved and maybe search links to articles about good web design and how to make your page relevant (and possibly an explanation of why SEOs are bad.)
I'm just saying, if they tried to take a little more voodoo out of the web I bet this would happen less.
So screw LED sign of Ignignok or Er in an odd location. This projector + Smallest iPod w/video + reasonable sized external battery pack, and you have "terrorist" device that will have Boston PD shitting themselves! Porn will be everywhere!!!
I get paid salary and part of that is being on call. So the way I see it my downtime can be on call too. If they expect me to wake up and fix a server at 2:00am then they can just suck it up if I read/. while I'm also in the office. If I'm expected to work at home then they should expect some downtime at work. They can't schedule emergencies? I can't schedule the articles I'll be interested in on slashdot.
Luckily I work at place that understands that productivity and "work" aren't the same thing
"Charter was well received but there were questions from upper management about how using this type of environment could affect the call center metrics (average handle time, after call wrap up, etc)."
I recently read (well listened to the audio book) The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt. Very interesting. It pointed out that for the longest time American factories were using the wrong metrics to measure productivity. The were confused by the fact that their measurements were telling them that their efficiency was good and improving but their productivity was not improving or even getting worse. How long will it take before the PHBs realize that things like "average handle time" don't measure the basic metric of a call center i.e. did the customer get properly and efficiently serviced?

In order for a democracy (as well as the free market) to function, the people need to be able to make informed decisions. For that we need information. For that we need healthy press. Currently it isn't. Dan Rather agrees
It wasn't the material he was trying to steal, it was the copyright itself. By patenting some one else's work he was taking away the the rights of the author. Stealing is an accurate description.
This is so fucked. These people are believing their own lies.
There is no such thing as a lie detector. The technology that is called a lie detector only measures certain biological factors. These factors are not always present when some one lies, and sometimes these factors are present when a person is NOT lying.
How can it be different with this machine?
The principles of liberty preclude the use of this machine and lie detectors (by the government).
I'm not saying it is right, or the best outcome but, if you fuck with some one in a position of some authority, how can you not expect them to use their position against you?
I've been thinking abou thtis too. Why doesn't some one make a car that looks like carmen gia's or old little porches that are composite bodies around alternative powerplants?
One problem though... this is a car. America is a car culture. Can't put together your own computer? You're not a geek or a nerd then. Can't work on/put together a car... YOU'RE NOT A MAN! Get in the kitchen with the rest of the women!
I installed it yesterday from a retail box on my h4ckint0sh. During installation it asked for my password and I had to enter a code that was printed on the manual. Everything went smoothly and I ended up playing the damn game for 12 hours. I like it.
I increasingly lost interest in console game as the game pad evolved. I seriously dislike game pads. The PC interface isn't a joystick, but it is so much more versatile than a game pad.
This is why I was determined to buy a Wii even if it sucked (which it doesn't). I want to promote the death of the game pad.

No not astronauts.

Video graffiti!!!
I think you missed something...
This is not a plant. It is a fungus... it eats plants. So what you are suggesting is a plant that eats itself.

I'm not in the military, so I'm speaking out of my ass here.
The last time I checked, you couldn't stop a suicide bomber by throwing a copy of Fedora 9 at them.
Chuck Norris could.....

There's also a key element here: I don't do anything illegal and I'm honest with friends and family...
The truth is you don't do anything that is illegal *NOW* That can change because the laws can change.

Well maybe they will allow the people who bought DRM music to exchange it for non-DRM versions.

Well you get the point.
A hugely anticipated game ships with the most oppressive DRM yet...
C'mon now... it's not like it requires a dongle to play. This is hardly "the most oppressive DRM yet" Sheesh.
(I still wish it didn't have any DRM, but quit playing "Michael Moore" if you want to convince people)
