It looks like Pause Technologies is a one person company. I think this guy pretty much came up with the obvious idea knowing that it would be possible some day, but never build a prototype, then made the patent. Really, I wonder if this guy even has a schematic or any technical documents describing in more detail how it works.
Hmmm. I think I will start a company, call it Warp Technologies and patent a device that makes travel in excess of 300e6 m/s possible. That way, when the warp engine is finally invented, I can rake in the dough without even having think about how the technology works, because I already patented it!
Yes, but that would imply that the 5V node sucks up at least half of the power. That is a lot considering there are also 12V and 3.3V nodes as well to use the remaining 150W.
Yes, but the specs call for the 5V to be able to kick out at least 30A. I don't know if this can happen with a "standard" supply. Anyone who knows more about power supplies wish to comment on the current capability of the 5V node?
It's got more RAM and processor power than my primary PC, Pentium 100 with 32 MB. Yeah, I live in the dark ages, but it works great under Linux, just not X.
I think a lot of posters are assuming that Phillips will automatically be "against" the copyright protection because it does not adhere to their standard. Truth is, if they are getting royalties for each CD that is pumped out, I do not think they will be against it, or they can alter their standard to adhere to the copyright protection.
Someone mentioned below about starting a website. If you are going to do a boycott you need to set up a central location for people to log activity. That way, the industry will know how much money they are losing through the boycott.
Get out your coat-hangers, our UPN channel is also available through the air as well as on cable. So, you may be able to go old fashioned and pick up the station. If you are really desperate, and you find that your "local" UPN affiliate broadcasts from further away, you can run to Radio Shack or Home Depot and pick up a little directional antennae with more gain for fairly cheap.
I will continue to purchase and recommend AMD products for my customers. Just because Gateway is leaving them behind doesn't mean the rest of the world should too. Buy what you think is best, and what you can trust.
No big deal...just a big inconvenience for all the users of the service, although I'm sure the system will be highly redundant with such large volumes of data at risk.
Now a terrorist hacker...that's a different story.
Our founding father's had to fight for the freedom that we have now. After that war, America began to spread freedom and democracy to other places, we were on the offensive. Now, we must fight to maintain that freedom, we are on the defensive again. I am willing to fight evil to keep our freedom, but I will not just hand my freedom over to our government for protection. We must provide our own protection to keep our freedoms.
This is good news considering that potatoes are a staple food supply for some countries. This could possibly help the world with food shortages.
One thing I wonder about though...did they test if the potato is insect resistant as well in their laboratories? It may be virus/bacteria resistant, but will it attract some weird worms or insects (or animals even) that will destroy the crops? Maybe there is a reason why this variety was never cultivated in some countries...because it could not survive due to some interaction with other plants or animals.
Red is also a common color for potatoes so I could very well see purple potatoes as well. What the article doesn't mention is whether just the skin is purple, or the whole inside is purple as well.
It is really cool to see everyone giving their experiences and trying to pull together to figure this one out. It won't be long until a slashdotter gets to the bottom of this one.
There is no "just like to fly" attitude, being a commercial airline pilot is a serious responsibility. I think that it is inherent in the job description...the pilot needs to be able to protect the individuals on the plane...they are responsible for their lives. Carrying a weapon could, someday, be part of this responsibility. It may also put some pilots at ease if they could carry a weapon to provide their own personal security.
Also, if individuals want to fly, but do not want the responsibility, they can fly for a non-people carrying airline, or for a company like UPS or Fed-Ex.

I think someone made a comment in another thread about using a different kind of bullet called "Frangible bullets" that can hurt flesh, but will break apart when they hit something solid.

I think he is talking about the interference pattern that is commonly seen in NEXRAD weather imagery. The NEXRAD sends out a very powerful signal that has the ability to bounce off of small objects in the atmosphere (such as raindrops or a flock of birds). Depending on what mode the NEXRAD is in, it has the ability to bounce off of even smaller objects in the atmosphere, very close to the NEXRAD site. This leaves a false image of what looks like rain when it is really not raining, in unedited NEXRAD images. To see NEXRAD images, go to www.intellicast.com and look for an area where there is no rain, then compare the standard RADAR with the NEXRAD images. It will appear to be raining near the NEXRAD location. There is also more info about NEXRAD at intellicast.com.
I heard some news about new security measures that will place armed federal agents on airplanes. However, I'm thinking to myself that this could make passengers a little uneasy.
So I was wondering, why aren't airline pilots armed? If the airlines could train the pilots to carry firearms, and use them, it could save a lot of lives in the future during incidents similar to Tuesday.
Also, the pilots should have "shoot first ask questions later" rights while they are on duty. I really think this could be helpful...injure a few to save the lives of hundreds. That's an instant no-brainer.
I can still see a lot of security implications here, but it is at least a start.
After a discussion with some co-workers, we agreed that the towers should be re-built, and in the some location as the former towers. Not only as a memorial to those who died, but also as a sign of this country's strength.
Any other thoughts on this matter? Should the towers be rebuilt?
OK, I don't see why there is a reason for all kinds of business, schools, etc to close down. It just shows are weakness in time of disaster.
I can see how it is important for the immediate areas surrounding the disaster, and for other areas where there is a threat. However, I think a lot of places are over reacting. You can't just close down the country.
Obviously, the major loss in this incident is many, many lives.
But, there are many other things that will need to be cleared up...like, where will they NYSE meet now? Also, I'm sure many businesses were solely headquartered in the towers...what happens to those businesses, if there are even any individuals left from them.

Each position in the list is off by one, add one to the list item to get the proper number in the image.

Who "owns" the "Compact Disc" logo? Also, who is in charge of keeping the standard? I'm sure those logos will still be on there.

Looks like they should hook the StarCat up to their website.

I hope our local rock station isn't owned by clear channel...there won't be much left for them to play.
