consider though, that the numbers will look a lot different when it's 750 students a year, and it's been running for 20 years. sure it's a lot up front, but school districts don't build new buildings every day
i think this is great, the only issue is that people go to the store when a bulb is dead, see a pack of 2 for under a dollar at walmart, and will buy that. sure, those fancy flouresent bulbs are there, but they cost $6 or more a piece... and the average person is probably just going to grab the cheap one.
flourescent light bulbs are an investment. and for normal people, light bulbs are not exactly the type of thing you think of investing in.
if you want people to work together to achieve goals, classes are more clearly focused on this... if everybody can train a skill to pick locks, there's no need for a specialized thief. and if everybody can train a skill to heal themselves, there's no need for a specialized healer. my point is, by allowing everybody to be a jack-of-all-trades, you lessen the number of people you need to have a full range of skills.
if an MMO is trying to get smaller groups, then perhaps this is fine, but if you'd like a more traditional group of Fighter/Cleric/Wizard/Thief each with their own defined roles, then classes are the way to go.
i hated the henchman system... definitely loved certain aspects of NwN, especially modability, and the freedom, but as far as personal enjoyment, i honestly preferred BG 1&2
i propose that keyboards should place caps lock up in no-man's land with Print Screen, Scroll Lock, and Pause/Break, rather than doing away with it completely. For the few times you actually would WANT to activate caps lock, it shouldn't be a problem for people to reach up there. And those who need caps lock a lot for their old programming language or somthing can use a legacy keyboard.
Libranet and Gentoo NEVER had the widespread and essentially unanimous support of the community that Ubuntu has now. there was never a time that so many admins agreed that a single desktop distro was the leader, which is what sets Ubuntu apart from those that you mentioned.
i've been a fan of the Chronicles since i first read them probably 10 years or so ago. they've been the favorite books for me and my group of friends, and I know there are others out there who are just as pumped about this as we are. plus, with 24 star Sutherland aboard, it's bound to get much needed publicity.
i'm curious as to why they chose to do it in CG... perhaps they're going for a younger demographic? that would be unfortunate, as the Chronicles had a sinister tone to them. (closer to the LotR trilogy than to the Hobbit, for those of you who have never read Dragonlance)
one of the issues i have is the inability to show icons within the buddy list in Messenger 8. This was a feature i really liked about Messenger 7, as it really can make it easier to quickly find somebody on your list (unless they change their userpic every 2 minutes)... now i have been unable to find a way to display them.:-\
i recommend you watch the video (with it's audio) that is included on the page... wow that CSR was a complete and total douchebag. recording calls to businesses might be good practice.. is that legal?
i think the paper books should come with a card or something for a free copy of the ebook, might lead to more ebook only purchases too.
this whole idea seems alright to me, but personally i'd prefer a paper book to an ebook anyday. stacks of books on the table covered with snackfoods is part of the magic.
i can certainly see how these companies could compliment one another.. and the almost mindless devotion of their fanbase is certainly a strength of both. These are businesses that have tried to stay to their roots, sometimes to a fault (Gamecube online games? Mac OS X on Apple hardware only?).
one of apple's biggest weaknesses to the mainstream user today, as i see it, is its perceived lack of games. i posted about this on Digg a few weeks ago, that perhaps Apple is working on first party games in order to dispell this perception. absorbing Nintendo would go a REALLY long way towards changing these perceptions.
and anyway, Microsoft and Apple have been too buddy-buddy lately, with all those copies of XP being sold to run on Macintels. It just doesn't set right with me... this move would place them back at each other's throats, where Apple and Microsoft belong. (competition leads to innovation)
i am really hoping that battery replacements, which we hear about all the time, will actually start coming to market, and actually make it past the researcher's desk. i think americans are willing to pay a premium for long lasting power, companies just have to finally make it available!
how would youtube honestly have any fundamental difference to any other host.. say geocities, which is just as capable (albiet not as user friendly) of hosting videos? just because they offer a convenient means of playing the videos back doesn't necessarily mean they should be treated differently than any other host. they wash their hands of it and let the content providers take up issues on a case-by-case basis.
did anybody LOOK at the car? it looks like the batmobile. and not the cool Christian Bale one, or even the Michael Keaton armadillo batmobile. nay, this looks like the Adam West batmobile. isn't half the fun of having expensive cars that you look cool in them?
my prediction for the winner of the format wars is thus:
whoever brings out Star Wars: The Ultimate 6 Disk Super High Def Extended Reach-around Edition to their format is going to win. cuz you know it's gonna happen. and a heck of a lot of us are going to buy it (again).

(for those of you heard the *woosh* sound, see here)
No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame. ;-)

Clevernickname is modding you down for that one

unless they begin using it as a means of very fast travel from point a to point b...
Too bad these cars keep dissappearing when they get to 85. :-(

it certainly isn't trolling to make a perfectly valid point.
with Google Checkout being currently available in the US only, i think the 4 methods they accept will cover most households.

I think the characters we all want are Left and Right Pong Paddles.

and to continue my own thread... this made me laugh out loud..
Wii. Not so Wii. and FREAKIN HUGE.
